  5. i hate the foot control trolling motors i bolted a 2x4 to the front deck and mount my handle trolling motor right to that works great and im not standing 1 footed any longer my trolling motor must be different then every 1 elses u turn the handle to increase or decrease the speed if u turn it to say speed 2 it stays on tell u turn the handle back i just nudge the handle with a hip of drop 1 hand for a sec to change directions i will never go back to a foot controled 1 again lbh feel free to im me if u are interested in trying my method
  6. i have the same problem at the pond i fish see the real big 1s jumping out in the middle but cant reach them all i catch is dinks near the shore might get lucky and get couple pounder but i know theres some hogs in the spring i was using a shallow crank near shore and missed a momma bass that was probally close to 7lb or better http://www.kodakgallery.com/PhotoView.jsp?UAUTOLOGIN_ID=54349609211&collid=54349609211.43030709211.1156366572586&photoid=17490709211&folderid=0&view=1&page=1&sort_order=0&albumsperpage=&navfolderid=2006 http://www.kodakgallery.com/PhotoView.jsp?UAUTOLOGIN_ID=54349609211&collid=54349609211.43030709211.1156366572586&photoid=88490709211&folderid=0&view=1&page=1&sort_order=0&albumsperpage=&navfolderid=2006 http://www.kodakgallery.com/PhotoView.jsp?UAUTOLOGIN_ID=54349609211&collid=54349609211.43030709211.1156366572586&photoid=61590709211&folderid=0&view=1&page=1&sort_order=0&albumsperpage=&navfolderid=2006 http://www.kodakgallery.com/PhotoView.jsp?UAUTOLOGIN_ID=54349609211&collid=54349609211.43030709211.1156366572586&photoid=52590709211&folderid=0&view=1&page=1&sort_order=0&albumsperpage=&navfolderid=2006 heres a few pics of the pond i average atleast 5-10 bass a trip all 1/2 pound to 2 pounds 1 trip got 10 and 5 were over 3lbs. any ideas i have been looking for a little 2 man boat but havnt had any luck i have a rubber raft but worried sticks and such will pop it
  7. lbh u can put my pic on 2 if u still have it
  8. i fish as much as i can between work kids wife price of gas its funny where i used to live i went just about every day was a few blocks from the river but moved because the town was gettin crazy and did want my youngest growing up there so know i must make a 45 min joureny to do any fishing
  9. if u can see the bass they probally seen u 2 u need confidence and quit trying so hard i have many days like urs the harder u try the more upset u get u need to take a break a cool down period u said u had some blue gil maybe fish for bass in the morning then when u get flustered u can switch and catch some gills then when ur calmer try the bass again i seem to catch more when im in not concentrating so hard on them when i light a smoke or eatin a snadwich gettin a drink of pop or something thing when i am least exspecting a bite thats when it comes or if im fishing plastics and look away for a second thats when i get my bites
  10. i have 1 more lure for u to try a panther martin i have used mepps and rostertail spinners but nothing compares to the panther martin the blade is almost as big as the whole lure i find with them they sink alittle slower and the blades turn easier at a slower reeling rate from bluegils crappie bass perch and northerns theres nothing better for a lure that is no bigger then inch- 2 inches i have caught a 4lb bass and 10 lb northern northern was supper lucky hooked in the corner of his mouth there is a boat harbour i have fished since early childhood private no one gets to fish it unless u own a boat i have been run out of there to many times to count using this lure there was a guy and kid fishin with a bobber from the docks [next to his boat ] he watched me catch both fish and i relished both fish and he alsomost fell in the water could not belive i let them go lets say i am welcome at the harbour anytime i want to go he told me i was welcome there anytime and if any 1 gave me a hassle to tell them i was his guest and all it took was a little catch and let go for someone else to catch sorry i got alittle carried away u have a bunch of great lures and should do great id add 1 more lure to ur list
  11. that is why i like this site so much and im sure thats why alot of other people in there posts say this is the best fishing forum around i also wanted to say keep up the good work guys u dont here many good things any more now a days even with the loss of a love 1 they still go up and beyond great work guys
  12. a bass will pretty much anything it can catch or get in his mouth i was fishng for catfish using stink bait and was reeling in my line the bass seen my worm sponge and hit it im pretty sure it was because the worm was red dont think he wanted the stink bait that is the only time i ever caught a bass using stink bait my brother had 1 in an aquarium and it would eat anything it could fit in his mouth its was a 125 gallon tank he had about 10 bluegil 4 bullheads the bull heads were the first to be eaten as they were smaller that bass would eat so many minnows it couldnt close his mouth all the way then at night it would average a bluegil a night this bass went from about 6 inches to 12 in a matter of 2 months non stop eating machine but then again there wasnt anybody he had to compete with either he also eats nightcrawlers hotdogs my brother ended up lettin him go because he couldnt keep up feedin him
  13. yes that is a sweet boat but i must ask why no seat up front i see it has foot control trolling motor i have used them many times and i hate them its hard to fish standing on 1 leg because u need the other to control the trolling motor seat up front helps alot even if its just big enought to rest ur butt against makes fishing standing on 1 leg a heck of a lot easier
  14. lol i know this but when its rainin cats and dogs i seek shelter it isnt a small group of trees i mean many trees that block nearly all the rain like a big canopy i dont stand right under a tree and surely try to stay clear of the tallest 1s i feel my boat is more of a risk then the trees of course if im close i make a beeline for the truck
  15. i have been caught many times in thunder storms in my boat and let me tell u its quite scariery i have a 18 foot flat bottom boat and we used sheet metal for the floor so when its starts raining or it gets ugly were heading for the shore first thing is to get out of the boat and hide bye some trees i know every1 says this is a big no no but my river is lined with trees on both sides we dont seek out the tallest tree just a group of smaller trees away from bigger trees ps. we have had some real good stroms the last 4 days come tomorrow i plan on fishing all day
  16. there isnt 1 brand thats better then all others so i would try a few different 1s bandit, rapala, timber tiger, bomber it boils down to personal favorites [those are my fav] as for the lucky craft and the other super expensive never owned 1 cant comment on them
  17. i have a spot i fish regularly super clear water tons and tons bluegils sunfish everywhere well a few years ago there dike broke dew to flooding i went down there and there were tons and tons of baby fish every where scopped up about 20 bluegills 1 bass took them home all the fish did great split them in to 3 aquariums he went from 4 inches to 12 in a few months i could not over feed it i feed him nightcrawlers everyday every morning when i got up there would be less and less bluegills in there with him pretty soon i had no bluegills and a big bass i had to let him go he was eatin me out of house and home plus he was growing quite fast
  18. i wouldnt use a bucket, ice chest, we have a new law in iowa thats say there is a no crill [dont know if this is the right word] any bass u catch and put in stringer, livewell, fish basket ,icechest must be kept and not released i have ur problem many times catchin small mouth or strippers they can be chasing bait fish u catch a couple and the school disapears if u enjoy fishing there and catching fish why stress them any more then u have to they have bass turneys all the time they are aloowed to get away with it i dont know if theres a permit u must obtain in order for u to keep and then release
  19. move to with in 30 miles of me and ill go fishing when ever u want to go probally wont happen
  20. i have a few extra questions for u what river whats the average depth what are u looking to catch small mouth bass = current large mouth bass = slack water i live next to and fish the missippi river i would try to get a map of ur river u want to look for river bends, rockpiles, channel breaks, wing dams u should find small mouth on all these large mouth bass are more lazy so any where with less current id try backwater off the main channel stump fields, grass, wood, entrances to creeks i hope this helps
  21. i use only powerpro braid or stren's braid at least 30 lbs. even with such strong line i have lost fish mostly when i fish a jig or worm theres nothing like watchin ur line take off and u set the hook extra hard only to have ur line break before u can feel the fish [dang notherns and dogfish] only thing i can think off how they cut right though the line i have lost many a fish after the hookset but i chalk that up to human error
  22. i own a flat bottom u can go really shallow with them they sit alot higher in the water with that said if there is choppy water or waves u better hang on there are very rough riding a v bottom boat cuts though choppy water and waves alot better but u lose when u take them shallow because they sit lower in the water
  23. buff it like chrome well u better only fish when its cloudy i say this because i have a 18 foot double deep and wide wood floor only lasts about a yr or 2 i went with an aluminum sheets for the floor no more worry about rot but she sure is shinny like blinding when the sun is out i rubbed it down with steel wool to dull it worked but not much few pitstops jumping in and out on muddy banks fixed my problem john boats hold there value pretty good to answer ur question used is cheaper but then u have other peoples headaches [used] u can go though and set it up to ur liking [new] u get what u buy so if u can find new that has everything just how u want it get it i bought my boat off a little old lady it was her husbands before he past away so my boat is older then me had it for about 5 years now i bought my boat motor trailor $700 shes not pretty but works like a charm
  24. humm good question if ur going to be toting a trolling motor to put on and on different boats my advice would be to try to find 1 with handle not foot pedal id try for 1 30lbs of thrust maybe more but it should be 12v i dont know how long they stay batterie power wise but it sure beats carring 2 or 3 batteries with u i think both brands are about the same
  25. when i was 16 {which is like 16years ago] i used to fish with my grandfather a lot well 1 time we caught a mess of catfish no monsters all in the pound to 3 pound range we went back to his house to clean them {which i got to do] did the bigger 1s first got done to the smaller 1s 1 fish just wouldnt sit still so my grandpa gives me this fish cleaning board it has the big clamp thing on 1 end well i lay the catfish on its side and hit the the clamp thing with my palm to make sure hes good and stuck well he was stuck real well so was i i ran the fin on the side of there head straight though my hand i was caught between the thumb and pointer finger i said ahh grandpa i got a problem he chuckles [thinkin i caught my finger in the clamp] turns around and says oh i said ok now what do i do his only response was ur going to have to pull ur hand back off so with him holding the board and me hand over hand i gritted my teeth and wham jerked it off and ran to the house washed it out for a long time and went to the docotors yes i was in some real pain for awhile but we learn from our mistakes right it is my opion u must be alot more careful with the little 1s then the big 1s little 1s are lot more floppy and with them being little so are there barbs like a needle with saw teeth that being said my dad was carring me on his shoulders when i was about 3 or 4 dont rember he stepped on a catfish head that went about 17 pounds and drove that barb into his foot he still has the scare and huge barb he kept from it i dont have a physical scar just mental 1 so u would think we would stay away from catfish huh well fished the cat turney in our area 5 years straight and took a 4th place finsh and a 1st place im more a bass fisherman now and my dad went on to walleyes but we still go out at least 1 or 2 just to try our luck
