  1. Well, I've been looking at everything else but haven't seen the weld-craft boats before. That rig looks pretty nice but wonder if they would open it up a little to a 52 inch width. Myself, I'm looking for a 1552MV with a long casting deck....their 1544MV special looks awesome but I want a 52 inch bottom if possible. Been looking a Weldbilt and Alweld boats on the web since I have no dealers in NE Kansas. The Weldbilt guy quoted me a very good price on a boat if I drove to LittleRock to get it...800miles round trip. :-/
  2. The only thing I would be concerned about is smoking the clutch pulling the boat out of the water at the ramp. Them FWD cars normally have pretty small clutches in them. I'm currently shopping for a new small boat and was faced with the same situation driving a 5 speed Scion xB and my solution was trading it off a few months back for a new 07 Silverado Classic, 4.8 V8....problem solved
  3. What size is your boat and how do you have it powered. Just wondering if they could build a 1242MV in the same layout as yours....maybe powered by a 15hp 4stroke..?
  4. Any thoughts on WeldBilt jon boats built down in Arkansas. Looks like all they do is welded jons but in sizes I've never ran into as of yet. The 12ft models are interesting in they can be built in a 1242 or even a 1248 format. Casting decks in 40, 48 or 60 inch in length.....looks like anything you could ever want in a jon boat they could do. http://www.weldbilt.com/
  5. Price is a big concern as extra horses do add up quickly from what I'm finding out. A 2007 model 9.8HP Tohatsu can be shipped to my house for just over $1600.....a Merc,$2200? New 25HP motors look to going at $3000+ which sadly is getting out of my budget.....I still need a boat you know I may downgrade to something like a riveted 1440 jon in order to make a smaller motor work out :-/ I checked Tohatsu's webpage and I do have a service center within 10 miles from my location although their only listed as a service center...no new sales from what I understand. I've never delt with them before but they have been in business for at least 25 years.
  6. I read here at this FAQ http://www.onlineoutboards.com/m_help.html#p_2 that some of the smaller merc's are made by tohatsu along with all the nissan. The specs look the same to me between the 9.9hp motors...? Looks like most of the welded 1448MV jons call for a max of 25hp. All out speed is not important to me as much as reliablity and ease of operation....but I would like the sucker to at least plain out
  7. Looking to buy a new small boat/outboard combo before spring and was wondering what you all felt about the smaller Tohatsu outboards. I read elsewhere on the web that the smaller Merc's are made by Tohatsu...is that correct. If so, the Tohatsu motors can be had at a considerable savings over a Mercury. Probably looking to buy something in the 9.9 to 15 hp range....boat will probably be a 1448 jon in a MV form. Do you think I'd be alright with a 9.9hp 4 stroke on a welded 1448MV or should I look at something bigger. Thanks
  8. I recently bought a new REVO S in left hand retrieve and while I've only had the chance to play with the reel once, its not in the same league as my two Shimano Citica 201's that I've bought in the last four months. I might of gotten a bad one perhaps....I do know that they all ain't the same in build. Even my two citica's feel different with my first reel boughten notably smoother in operation. I'am really new to baitcaster's and have no brand loyality as of yet but thats starting to change
