  1. Whats the deal with that offset butt on that rod..?
  2. I've only fished smaller lakes ( less than 200 acres) but my 1548MV does well running through small whitecaps produced by 25mph winds. She'll get on plane and skim across with very little bounce if any and I stay pretty dry for the most part. I'm powered by a Johnson 25HP and I get about 26-27 mph on my GPS.
  3. Lawrence, KS here and I own a welded Sea Ark 1548MV...and the wind really can mess with me. My boat has a 20 inch transom which adds to the problem by having more surface area for the wind to push around compared to a 15 inch transom boat. I just simply fish super early mornings before the wind picks up and I watch the weather forecast to see what direction the wind will be blowing that day. That way I can plan my route and hit the spots most affected by the wind first thing...then retreat to the wind protected areas as the wind comes up.
  4. Its said that you can stand in a Ultimate 12 from Native Watercraft. I'm looking to buy one myself come next spring to supplement by 1548MV Jon. http://www.nativewatercraft.com/
  5. I bought a pack of Flappin Hawgs recently. The fish liked them alright but they don't last long at all. The local fish like Paca Craws just as well if not better and I've caught as many as 10 fish on one bait...probably average around 5 fish per bait. They work as well with one pincher as they do with two from my experience this summer.
  6. How about a fishing kayak.
  7. I use the $15 Energizer head lamp I bought at walmart. Its a fairly simple light that has two white LEDs and one red LED. I hardly ever use the white as I hate bugs in my face and it really jacks up your night vision....mostly I can't stand the bugs. The red led provides plently of light for working tackle and thats all I really need. It runs on three included AAA's and their still holding well after several outtings. I tried the hat light thing....didn't like all the weight hanging off the front of my hat. That and I'm not a hat person anyway.
  8. I'm addicted to baby paca craws...t-rigged on a 3/0 EWG and a 1/8oz bullet weight.
  9. I've bought 4 Citicas 201's, 1 curado 201, 1 calcutta 101 and 1 stradic 1000...all within the last year with zero problems.
  10. Go to WalMart and buy one of those cheap Energizer head lamps with the combo white and red LED's....their less than $15. I don't use the white light very often but the red light part of the lamp works well for working with tackle issues as it doesn't attract the bugs nor will it jack up your night vision.
  11. I found the best deals on ebay come from sellers that don't have paypal or new sellers with little to no feedback. Yeah, I now its kinda risky but the risk has payed off for me a few times. My latest good buy that came to my mailbox just two days ago was a NIB Calcutta 101 that I won for $100. The seller had good 100% feedback but didn't take paypal....had to wait a little longer while the MO was in the mail but everything turned out great. I try to end my auctions on a sunday night...normally around 9pm central time. I figure the most people would be at home during that time.
  12. The Triumph uses the same components as a Premier but is assembled in China. I think their a decent rod if you can cherry pick thru them to find a good one....pay attention to the guide installation on these guys. I've seen some that were pretty bad but then again...I picked up a Avid two weeks ago that the epoxy was cracked on the bottom guide wrap...
  13. Outdoor carpet adhesive is what I used when I did the floor and casting deck on my 1548MV john....wood and aluminum, it all stuck well.
  14. $150 Carrot Stick LTX.... :-/ http://www.e21fishing.com/buyform/index.html
  15. Dang, I thought my $100 NIB Calcutta 101D that I won on ebay last night was a deal :-[
  16. It does sound as though your centrifical brake isn't working correctly. Just a thought, perhaps some oil got onto the brake case....the drum that the brake pegs drag against.
  17. Ebay a shimano citica and if you have a St.Croix dealer near, then cherry pick out a good Triumph.
  18. Is it true that the 15lb Boga Grip only measures in 1/4lb incerments...and its $120 :-?
  19. I'm not for sure but I thought that a beeping alarm was the oil injection system and a long continual alarm was a overheat alarm.
  20. I reserched them last winter and seen one in action here the last month or so. I think that if I had the requirements as you I'd rather have a nice fishing kayak. I have a nicely setup 1548MV John right now but I have a Native Watercraft Ultimate 12 on my 2008 fishing budget to add to my fleet... http://www.nativewatercraft.com/
  21. Gonna bring this thread to the top....went night fishing at Lonestar last night. Bite was good I think, fished from 1 till 6 am and caught 22 bass along with three bonus channel cat that I wasn't looking for. Big bass was 3lb 7oz and big cat was 6lb 5oz. Actually the second cat looked bigger but I didn't weigh him. Fish seemed most active in the owners cove by the docks and of course this was the last place I went before heading home :-[ . I used mostly black/blue Netbait baby paca craws for the most part. I did catch a couple on a black spinner and one on a black/blue chatterbait. Probably could of caught more spinnerbait fish but I lost the blades on two spinners last night and got >. Something spooked the crap out me in boat dock cove by the campground. Don't know what it was but had me on edge for about a hour...or untill I caught that second stinkin cat. Might go back out tonight...don't know though as my thumb is trashed from last night. Might go to BPS and get me one of them lipper tools :-/
  22. Bomber Square A's and Norman Fatboys
  23. I have D-Barb cutters that work well for cutting hooks but my problem is that about 50% of the time I can't see the point of the hook. I haved tried the reversing of the hook deal and it works on larger fish but I have little luck with it on the smaller guys given their smaller mouths and my big dumb fingers. The bait I'm having the problems with are Baby Paca Craws t-rigged on a 3/0 EWG with a loose 1/8oz bullet weight. Normally the bite is so light that I can't feel anything but when I go to move the bait, they have already swallowed the hook. They just simply swim over to the the bait, inhale it and just sit there without swimming away. Last sunday was very bad....5 gut hooked fish out of 17 caught :-[
  24. There's no BPS or Cabelas within 1,000 miles of me. =\ That bites...I have both a Cabelas and BPS within 40 minutes of my house and I live in Kansas of all places . Well, cheer up cause it looks like you should have a BPS close by soon.... http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CFPage?storeId=10151&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&appID=34&template=news_display.cfm&newsID=117
  25. Yep, ebay a curado but I like to cherrypick rods locally at BPS or Cabelas....my next will be a IMX Loomis.
