Favorite Crankbait Rod?
I love my 6'6" Premier MHM crankbait rod....I have the graphite version. My my local BPS and Cabelas doesn't carry the glass versions so I know nothing of them.

Removing stickers and sticker gunk
I've used a hobby heat gun ( maybe a tad hotter than a hair dryer) before to soften the stickers to pull/peel them off . Then I used automotive bug/tar remover to clean the rest off. Just don't go crazy on the heat....the heat guns at the hardware stores are made to strip paint and get very hot.

40% off most St. Croix @ Reedssports....
I kinda have the same problem, my medium moderate action crankbait rod has cracks right below the tip...I'm not sure what to do either, get them to replace it? Sounds like I should do that but if it doesn't impact the performance should I bother? suggestions :-/ ? I have two Avids and one Premier that look just like that. I seen it when I bought them and I didn't think it would affect anything. I'm no rod builder but it looks like the epoxy shrunk when it dried...??

Other hobbies?
Before bass fishing took over 16 months ago I raced RC cars for many years. Mostly electric off-road then some electric on-road stuff. I finished off my RC car racing career racing the holy grail of RC car racing...1/8 scale nitro buggy. I've dabbled in many things over the years....RC airplanes(still do), mechanical watches, adult grade airguns, vintage HO slot cars, mountain bike riding and dirt bikes. Going to try some fly fishing next spring and have thought about getting into shotgun sports.

First GAS Bass Boat Purchase
I would imagine that KVD leases his boats from Nitro free of charge. I wouldn't be surprised if they even pay him to run their boats.

Boat buying woes.
Seriously, I wouldn't give half the asking price for that rig.

for all you shimano fanciers
Reel weight means little to me as long as the reel/rod combo balances correctly.

for all you shimano fanciers
You can eBay them cheaper...just bought a Curado 101D for $157.24 shipped to my door.

shimano question
WOW....that is news, not even Shimano have it listed on their products, I was also convinced that there was no 101, thanks for the info. I believe that reel is old stock...they show up on eBay ever now and then. Shimano currently does not make the cardiff in the 101 model...they do still produce the Calcutta in a 101 however.

Low-Pro vs. Round
While I only owned a Culcutta a short while I can say I prefer LP reels over the round reels. My Culcutta 101 frame had somewhat of a narrow window to thumb the spool while casting and that top bar on the frame limited access to the spool as well....but the same bar did give some added leverage while reeling in a fish as you could hook your thumb over it. Another thing I didn't care for was that the level wind would drag across my thumb tip on the retrieve...I guess my hands are just to big? Other than that...it was a glassy smooth reel and casted well. I sold it and bought a new Curado 101...couldn't be happier!

40% off most St. Croix @ Reedssports....
I would say that they under estimated the shipping cost on shipping single rods and found it was cutting to deeply into the profit margin. I glad I got to cherry pick the four Avids I bought...two at Dicks for $80 and the other two at BPS for $112. I am kinda sad that I did resale one to a work buddy at my cost...but he takes me out fishing on his Ranger 185VS so I guess its all good.

st. croix premier
I still stand firm in believing that the Triumph is a pretty good buy at $70 providing you can cherry pick thru a bunch to find a good one...like at Dicks. The Premier uses the same components but are assembled here state side....that said, I've seen some Premiers that lacked in workmanship as well. Regardless of what I buy, I check for guide alighment and installation (excessive glue and whatnot) and I carefully check the blank for any damage. Its a shame that you couldn't of gotten in on the clearence priced Avids at Dicks....$80 was a sweet deal!

What do you use for Tackle Storage?
Yeah, Falcon tackle bags...... http://www.falconrods.com/productsFTO.php?CategoryID=24 Cabelas carries the V6 and V12 bags.

Stratos 186xt
Run over to Cabelas and check out the new Ranger 177TR...now thats a fishing boat!

the croix are comming
Waiting for these rods to come in at BPS or Cabelas. Between these rods, a BCR803 Loomis or a new Cumura...its gonna be a hard decision on what to buy myself for xmas. Being that I bought 3 Avids in the last 6 weeks it only seems logical to stay with St.Croix.

Shimano Citica models
I believe the DSV models have the deeper spools for increased line capacity....the 100 being the smaller version.

Looking for a decent LOW speed reel
You should be able to eBay a new Shimano Citica 200 DPV (5.0 ratio) for right around $100. I use a Curado 201 DPV for cranks and I love that reel....super smooth and casts very well.

"4" is too slow and "5" is too fast
My 40lb Edge is the same way on my welded 1548MV Jon. The first two steps are worthless, step 3 is were I'am at most of the time. Step 4 is used on windy days and step 5 is only used for rapid transit like from one side of the cove to the other...I make sure I'm sitting down and the motor is pointed foward before ingaging warp drive..LOL!

Crankbait Rod?
I've got a St Croix Premier 6'6" MHM crankbait rod paired with a 201 Curado DPV that I just love to fish but I still think its a little light for them big cranks such as a D22 Norman. I don't use big cranks that much but if I did, I'd be looking into something with a heavy action and at least 7 ft.

All right guys, Compre vs. Premier
I fished a med 6'6" Compre crankbait rod but felt a little wimpy. I replaced it with a MH 6'6" St.Croix Premier crankbait rod and couldn't be happier. It has the right feel in my hands and while slightly heavier the the compre..it does balance alot better.

For Us KC Area Guys - Fishing Reports
Caught my new personal best sunday morning at Lonestar...4lb 10oz. Was by myself so I had to tilt the camera at tad to get all the fish into the picture.

Leaders with Braid
I have one baitcaster setup with 30lb powerpro and 10 seaguar invizx. I use a uni to uni to connect the two and run the leader long enough to just keep the knot from going into the reel. Running the knot into the reel causes lots of problems with the knot hitting the level wind guide....I hardly feel it going through the guides on the rod however. Its been fairly reliable but I did have one knot fail on me when I hooked a fairly good sized channel cat....knot was kinda old though so I wrote it off as being my fault.
