  1. i was on such a good ned rig and drop shot bite before the ice I'm really hoping that this warm period were getting here in MA is gonna unfreeze some of the smaller ponds but unfortunately i doubt it
  2. Hi everyone, Ive already started to go stir crazy this year and we've only had ice for a week...... i thought it would be cool to see some pictures of some beat up lures that guys have a ton of confidence in... What are those few lures in your box that time and time again get bit even though they look like crap, ill start with my two favorites the Yellow magic magnum has seen well over 50 fish, and has a 7.5lb bass to its credit the pats perch has seen less than that, but i love looking at the teeth marks on the top and she's got a 6.7 to her credit
  3. I got good with something that I've been wanting to do for awhile, i got good at fishing big baits. The key for me was being able to put down the smaller stuff that "catches" a ton of fish and focus on only getting a few bites a day. i pulled fish of size out of places i had no idea had them. i rarely picked up conventional gear this year and I'm more than happy that i made this choice. it resulted in a lot of big fish and some great memories
  4. My one goal this year is to finally crack 8 pounds here in MA. I've gotten 7 but i need that 8 pounder. I also want to buy myself a new kayak thats more stable so i can throw big baits while standing up
  5. been keeping my big fish streak alive, 6.4lbs on a 8.5 inch glide bait
  6. been having a good run of big fish lately this one ran 7-5
  7. In MA i usually fish a jerk bait pretty quickly or crank baits, although i love to fish poppers too. i don't have electronics so i generally just try to fish fast till i catch a couple and then i slow down and pick apart the areas i find the most fish in
  8. Most of the time i fish with a partner who's generally a close friend maybe 2 or 3 people. I have the confidence that they won't give up my good spots to anyone else. That being said I also enjoy fishing out of my kayak alone very much, theres something about being up at sunrise catching fish with no one else around thats really special
  9. Vision 110 is the best jerk bait of all time
  10. I second the swimbait mention, I've just started fishing them and have been catching some bigger sized fish on them. i haven't gotten into anything crazy big like some of the 10 inch baits, but i did get a decent fish yesterday on a 7 inch bass colored glide bait
  11. Very late to this topic but i went 7 trips in a row this past winter without fish
  12. if you want a good swimbait search bait, buy a triple trout, or a Mike Bucca Bull shad, I can cover the same amount of water as anyone fishing a crank bait, while picking out the bigger fish. they also make them in a bunch of sizes, so if you aren't confident that you want to go with a super large bait you can buy a 5 inch bull shad and a 6 inch Triple trout. i Just bought the Bull shad in golden shiner and i love it, they are expensive though at 50$ but i can attest to them working. I also threw mine first cast onto a cement bridge, hit it square on the nose (I panicked) reeled it back in to check if it was broken... Not even a scratch, swims just as good as it did when i took it out of the package. Attached is a picture of the golden shiner paint job. They aren't made to be pretty baits just effective.
  13. i have two high speed reels, i have a shimano Metanium 8:5:1 and the *** *** in 8:1 i use both of these reels for many different things. i Enjoy throwing crank baits, jigs, t-rigs, and my favorite things to use them for are topwater and jerbaits. i like to have a fast gear ratio to be able to catch up to the fish and reel up slack
  14. Throw jerkabaits, thats all i have to say about smallies... and maybe include some pink in your colors
  15. Damiki makes an amazing spinnerbait called the MTS its really good for burning and has a smaller profile giving you more potential at quantity. As for buzz baits I catch all my fish on smaller double buzz with the skirt removed and a small swimbait option.... another option would be a whopper plopper...bait gets hammered
  16. Not sure if you're into swimbaits but its hard to beat a 6 inch huddleston slow rolled on the bottom. Just barely moving the bait with the reel handle. (I prefer real prey baits though)
  17. Ive done extremely well with the Revenge vibrating jigs, Im a big fan of the Bluegill color. The best thing to do is put out a lot of vibration, as others have said try spinner baits and jigs. Another bait i do well with is a 3/8-1/2 lipless crank bait. I've been fishing a duo one and then strike king red eye shad
  18. Im Sam, Im from MA but i go to college in North Carolina. I'm fortunate enough to get to fish all year long since that wouldn't be the case in MA. i also fish in Maine quite a bit. Smallmouth bass are my favorite type of Bass, specifically catching them on a Jerkbait. i also just recently got into fishing big swimbaits so thats currently taking up most of my time. If you've got any tips or tricks on that let me know, I'm always happy to learn
