  1. Is that a backlash or my Grandma's wig?
  2. I think that FC definitely has its benefits. I really like it for bottom contact baits. Flouro is getting better and better all the time as technology improves and processes and materials get more refined, but to take advantage of that you will have to spend a little extra money to get the products that are the most refined. I am willing to spend the extra money on a premium FC line like Tatsu or Sniper because of this. If I were restricted to only using some of the lower grade products, I might not bother with FC either.
  3. Yep, that's about what it looked like once I started trying to pick it out. I gave up after a few minutes and just fished my other rods the remainder of the trip.
  4. That's probably what I'd have tied on too. Would probably add some paddletail swimbaits and a Jackall Pompadour.
  5. ^^^Came here to say this. I still fish the Keitechs but the Rythm Wave has become my go to. Less expensive too.
  6. I was just giving you a hard time.
  7. Me too. It casts like a dream when it doesn't have an entire other rod and reel on the end of it!
  8. Honestly, I was just happy that I didn't sling it out any further than I did. There is a very steep drop off just about another two feet from where it landed with the tip of the rod hanging just over the edge of the bank. I'd have gone diving after it if I had to!
  9. You're going to blow it for everyone
  10. Mother of all backlashes! Was bank fishing on Sunday and had a couple of rods leaned up against my backpack lying on the slope of the bank behind me. Went to throw a cast and saw my spinning outfit go flying over my head and into the water. D'oh! Fortunately not so far that I couldn't retrieve it. The resulting backlash was so bad that I ended up having to strip and re-spool. Lesson learned!
  11. This would be my pick. 2nd choice would be the Zodias. If you're including the Avid, it would be close 1 or 2.
  12. I bought the 22lb. I had trouble with the leaders too. They weren't breaking but just sliding off on hooksets. I decided to go sans leader, and then I had some trouble with knots holding when tied direct. I started using a double palomar knot and have not had one break since. I even hauled in a 6.4 lb'er through the slop last week on it and the double palomar held up fine. So far the knot issues have been the only negatives I've seen in the line. Now that I seem to have that sorted out, I am really liking it.
  13. This year I have replaced Gliss on most of my spinning setups with YGK upgrade X8. So far I am really liking the X8, but we will see how it hold up over an entire season.
  14. Not quite apples and oranges, but more like oranges and tangerines.
  15. I keep mine in a box similar to what bluebasser86 posted above, but I can't recall what brand mine is. If I'm going to be bank fishing, I'll take the ones I want to use for the day and throw them in a small bait binder that fits nicely in my backpack.
  16. Great rods and a very good value at their price point IMO. They are made in America. They offer a 15% discount for current and former military as well. (Buy direct from them unless you're spending TW gift cards.) I have their 7'-11" flipping stick and love it. I use it mostly for punching. Light weight with plenty of backbone and comfortable to use for long durations. I also have a 7' H that I use for chatterbaits, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, and some jigs. Very light, well made, and very sensitive. This rod currently gets more use than any other rod I own, including my high end Loomis and St Croix rods. They also have solid customer service. I accidentally stepped on my rod tip while tying on a leader and knocked out the insert. I called them up and they sent me a half dozen tips at no charge. Keep in mind that their rods run a little bit lighter than the ratings of most other rods. Probably about a half power or so - if you want a MH get the H instead.
  17. I use the Alberto knot and only retie if I want to change my leader size or if it looks visibly worn.
  18. I like to use a Keitech SI Fat on a Cavitron buzzbait.
  19. One retrieval method not mentioned here that I like to use at times is a yo-yo retrieve. Throw it out and let it drop to the bottom and sit for a moment, then lift your rod tip and take up the slack as you let it fall again. Pretty much the same way you'd work a yo-yo retrieval on a lipless crank. I use this method more when the water temps are a little cooler and the bass aren't as active.
  20. My top three in no particular order would be Siebert's Gridiron G2, Nu[Tech]'s pro series, and Jackall's spade TG jig. Colors vary by season, water clarity, etc.
  21. Finally got one of these awesome Walmart deals I keep hearing about. Did some searching online and found that a few of the stores here had the 6'-6" MH Lighting Rod Shock for $9. Picked up three of them.
  22. Not to hijack the thread, but I just read a very interesting article posted in the general fishing section that you might be interested in.
  23. Ultimately it depends on the person and available resources, but I feel that the GLX is worth the money. I have both the older version and the most recent one and much prefer the newer model. That said, if you can afford to spend another $100, the NRX is worth the difference IMO.
