  1. I feed my trailers onto the hook. I just have more confidence rigging it this way, I tryed hooking it through the middle but never had much success like that, probably due to much less confidence when rigged that way. By the way, if you like the Zoom Chunk, try the Yum Chunk, or Netbait Paca Chunk. Gycb Hula Grub works well too .
  2. Hey dumbdog, you thinking of the Yum Wooly Bug? http://www.yumbaits.com/lures.cfm?d=Wooly%20Bug&m=Yum
  3. Ok just wanted to know everyones opinion on their favorite softbait for flipping. Im just getting into flipping and I already have Jigs for flipping. I just wanted to know some softbaits that are good for flipping. So whats everyones favorite softbait for flipping, and if your favorite isn't a choice on the poll or its a knock off of one of the choices listed, please post what it is. My favorite currently is probably the Zoom Baby Brush Hog in watermelonred (GYCB Kreature being 2nd option).
  4. Yeah I'd definetly try either a topwater hollow weedless frog or a soft plastic frog such as a Stanley Ribbit or a Zoom Horny Toad fished in/around the pads. I'd also try throwing a jig into those pads and working it nice and slow slithering it through the pads and then pausing it, and just work it through those pads nice and slow. I'd go with a greenpumkin, or a watermelon red color. (Yum Chunk/Zoom Super Chunk, or Netbait Paca Chunk are all good choices for trailers, match the size of the jig to the size of the trailer, and the color of the trailer to the color of the jig) Another thing I'd try in those pads is pegging and flipping a Zoom Baby Brush Hog, or a Yum Wooly Hawgtail and just working it through the pads. You can also try throwing senkos or spinnerbaits in the non-padded areas, and see if you can get a few fish on drop offs etc. Oh ya almost forgot, try pegging a GYCB Kreature in greenpumpkin or watermelonred, or a Sweet Beaver and working that in those pads. I can usually always get a hit or 2 flipping a Gycb Kreature.
  5. I voted the Jig as my favorite because I catch alot of quality fish on it and its extremely versatile, but my favorite to work is a soft plastic frog, or a hollow frog thats definetly my favorite lure to "work". The blow up is just an amazing pay off, and I just love slowly crawling them along the thick weeds. A scumfrog popper is what caught my pb, (although I like the original scumfrog better).
  6. Also Ive tryed the tooth pick idea, but I heard it can fray your line, also I had trouble getting it out, so its like your throwing away a weight after you use it. Ive also tryed the rubberband technique, but I couldnt manage to fit the rubberband into the hole of the bulletweight.
  7. Hey I bought a pack of these and tryed them and out they seem to work great, but is there anyway to re-use them? Or after using them once they are done? I can't think of a way to re-use them, you know of any other ways to reuse them? If not what are some pegging systems you use particularly reusable? By the way here a link to the tru-tungsten pegs im talking about http://www.tru-tungsten.com/cart.php?target=product&product_id=41.
  8. Imo I don't think its going to be anything revolutionary for freshwater atleast. Although I'd like them to make a larger size, maybe for salt water it would make a difference, I think salt water fish go after scent more then freshwater, so for salt water I'd be willing to give them a try if they made a 7-9 inch sized pointer in schoolbus pattern.
  9. Hey I have a few packs of Powerbait Power Grubs 4inch. And I want to put them to use but don't know of many ways of using a grub other then fishing it as a spinnerbait trailer and using a white one on a white jig as a trailer. So I just wanted to know if any of you guys use grubs and how you fish them/rig them. Whats some good usage of grubs you know of? ps. I tryed texas rigging them with a bullet weight and fishing them weightless, but with minimum success, maybe I wasn't throwing them in the right situation though :-?.
  10. Im going to post the same thing I said in the last spro topic. Don't like the bronze eyes, the paint job got torn up on mine, Ive had some that were too soft and sunk after 30secs in the water, would have to reel em in and squeeze water out, had some that were too stiff and hook set wasn't good. They did seem to get alot of hits though, but I don't like em. Best frog Ive found so far for me is the original scum frog in black/green (take a look at the color cause black/green doesnt describe it well), this frog gets me alot of strikes, it always floats well, and its nice and soft for a good hook set, it also comes out of the muck clean and after hookin a fish its still in quality form just arrange the hooks again, and your good to go. http://www.scumfrog.com/scumfrog.html
  11. Never seen a white power worm before.

  13. Never learned to fish a baitcaster, and I don't feel like learning to use them at the moment, atleast not now. I rather just stick with my spinning reels. Eventually I'll give the baitcasters a shot, but not now.
  14. Hey, Im looking for a nice reel for about 70-150, but I'll go for 160 is I have to. I plan to be using it mainly for throwing jigs and flipping baits. I was thinking about getting the Shimano Stradic. Any ideas of some good reels, particularly for flipping/jigging? What you think of the Stradic?
  15. Yeah there expensive unfortunately :-/, but the size to weight ratio is what keeps me buying them. I don't strictly use tru-tungsten and nothing else, but I'll say I use it 75% of the time.
  16. A striper on a hotdog? How you pull that off?
  17. Well I looked at them and they look great so I might buy one. I have 1 question though before I do this. Majority of the bass in the lakes im fishing are 5lbs being the biggest, but most are 2-3, do you think a 2-3lber can swallow this lure? I'd say majority of the fish I see on the beds are 2-3lbers, some being 3 1/2 and very few being 4-5. So im mostly wanting to keep it so the bait is just small enough for a 2-3lber to take, cause thats majority of the lake. So what do you think, can a 2-3lber take down this lure?
  18. Largemouth Bass: Small peice of bread, tiny tiny grub under a inch after I harassed him with it enough, also Ive caught a bass that hit a rapala that was spinning on the top after fail hooking the line. Bluegill: First let me say I truly believe I can catch these things with anything. Hook ( no bait, just a hook), peice of rubber on a hook, I was using butter worms once for bluegills and after catching about 30 I decided to stop wasting the butter worms and I found a yellow peice of weed (so it resembled the butter worm) and I wrapped it around the hook and was nailing em with it. Carp: Fail hooked many many times with rapalas/ crankbaits etc, Ive had them almost spool me once or twice where I had to just let them snap it. Catfish: Black/blue jig with a Yum Black/blue trailer sprayed with Yum Crawfish scent, Spinnerbait, Rapala, Senko, split shot (yes a split shot, one fish hit the worm and got the hook, other ate the split shot and got caught up in the line, caught 2 at a time, was great)
  19. Can you fish the matt lures bluegill real slow, and pause it etc on the nest? Or do you have to fish it with a steady retrieve? I don't think theyll go for it if I just swim it through the nest, I think it has to stay in there for a few seconds or so, can you fish it like a softjerk bait is what I mean.
  20. Hey, I was thinking about tactics to try during the spawn. Last spawn I had times where I hooked a sunny through the lip, and dragged him near the bass nests. The bass would chase him and he would run out of the nest before the bass could grab him. I'd keep trying to force him back on the nest, but he'd immediately run as the bass came darting after him. So I thought if I can find a softbait that looks just like a bluegill or sunfish, I can probably work it in the nests with amazing results. Particularly a small size also, so the small bass around here will attack it no questions asked. All I found so far that looked something like what I wanted was a basstrix bait fry bluegill http://www.***.com/descpageSWMBSSTRX-BTB.html. But I can't seem to find it anywhere, even on ebay. But if you know of any other soft jerkbait that is fairly small in size (under 5inches), and looks like a real bluegill (good quality design). Then let me know. Thanks.
  21. GYCB Kut-Tail: 5inch rigged weightless/weedless (cinnamon brown or Greenpumpkin) GYCB Fat Ika: rigged weightless/weedless (black/blue or greenpumpkin) GYCB Senko: 4-5inch rigged weightless/weedless (Cinnamon Brown, Greenpumpkin, Black, Watermelonseed, Watermelonred) YUM Wooly Hogtail: 4 1/2 inches rigged weightless/weedless and worked along the top of weeds or just fished regularly, or pegged with a bullet weight and flipped. (Greenpumpkin) Berkley Powerworm: 4inch rigged weightless/weedless (camo, redshad, pumpkinseed) I also like Zoom Baby Brush Hogs rigged with a bullet weight/weedless and flipped into cover or just worked regularly, but I always add a bullet weight to these. (greenpumpkin, Watermelonred)
  22. I have a lake I fish every now and again that is heavily fished, its a pay-to-fish lake. It holds some nice bass but the big ones aren't stupid because there fished for almost constantly as this place is fairly popular. Most people who fish it are beginners just looking to have some fun so they usually just buy live bait. The live bait they sell are shiners and nightcrawlers, so im guessing thats what these bass are used to eating (and the beginners never seem to get any big ones either). I myself can't stand using livebait so I stick with my artificials and I can usually do ok with a senko or a powerworm. Although I can never seem to get a big one to hit, when I spot a nice one I cast right to her and she'll pretty much always turn it down. Any tips on how to get these big girls to hit in such a heavily fished lake? And by big I mean 4-5lbers, theres no 10lbers here in NJ .
  23. I use Megastrike on my softbaits, and YUM Crawdad Spray on my Jigs, I think it makes a difference, but thats just my opinion. I had a catfish take a Jig so maybe that means he liked the YUM spray? I don't know but im going to keep using the stuff 8-).
  24. Hmm im going to give answering this a shot. 1. I use the sweet beavers majority of the time just for flipping(pegged with a bullet weight), although I have had times where they worked well rigged weightless/weedless in rivers particularly with gravel/rock bottoms. 2. I will use trailers on spinnerbaits such as the one that comes with the boogie bait, I'll also use single tail grubs as a trailer that match the color of the spinnerbait. But I only do this when I want a larger approach, I usually fish them without a trailer. Majority of the time I use trailer hooks on spinnerbaits, the only time I won't use a trailer hook is if theres just too much weeds to bare. And no I don't hook the trailerbait onto the trailer hook, If im using a trailerbait I won't use a trailer hook as this seems to tangle with the trailerbait. 3. Baby Brush Hogs are a pretty good bait. When I first bought them I fished them weedless/weightless with little to no success. I later tryed them again with a small bullet weight and they worked pretty good. Without a bullet weight added I won't fish this bait. I do great with these rigged weedless and pegged with a bullet weight for flipping and breaking through cover etc. Although they also work pretty well unpegged (I peg em when im flipping them). 4. First thing I'd like you to know is the waters I fish are rarely any deeper then 4foot if that, majority being 1 1/2 - 2 foot, just wanted to let you know that before I go on. I choose my jig size by what I want to do with it. If im flipping it into cover depending on how thick the cover is I'll use either 3/16 - 5/16 ounce. I like 5/16 ounce for breaking through lillypads(I'll use 1/4 - 3/8 if im fishing extremely thick weeds), but I'll often try to get away with 3/16 ounce because I believe you should try to get away with the lighest you can. But if im fishing rivers with little to no cover other then a few small stick piles I'll choose 1/16 ounce - 1/8 ounce, although I've also done well with 3/16 ounce in these situations so who knows, but like I said I prefer using the lighest I can. I've heard people say the rule of thumb is you want a faster rate of fall during summer, and a slower rate of fall during the colder months, I guess you can take that into considerationt too. You also must remember the larger your jig trailer the slower the fall, so I'll often adjust how fast I want the fall rate by what trailer im using. Good luck .
  25. I learned with a 3/16 ounce Booyah Baby Boo Jig, in watermelon/red. I now use alot of Booyah Baby Boo's in 3/16 -5/16ounce, in black/blue, watermelon/red, and any shades of brown. I also use alot of Strikeking Bitsy bugs in 1/16 - 1/4ounce particularly in black, black/blue, greenpumpkin, or again shades of brown. And I also like the Terminator jigs. But if your just learning jigs I'd recommend a booyah baby boo 3/16 ounce, they did the trick for me, they should do the trick for you. For color I'd go with black/blue with a 3.5 inch black/blue YUM chunk as trailer, or a Zoom Super Chunk 3.5 inch Black/blue.
