  1. I particularly like Skitterpops, and Chugbugs. But I've also done fairly well with Excalibur Pop-Rs, I think there called..
  2. Yep, they work pretty good, a little different action then the super fluke, IMO the action is better. But I always seem to get more hits on the super fluke, don't know. Anyways the scent is already there, so the good thing about them is you really don't have to apply any scent. If you do some bank fishing, try the really small version, believe its like 2 1/2 inches, I kill the pickerel/bass with them in late spring.
  3. Union County, and now that I think back I don't remember it "entirely" being covered by weeds back 5 years ago. I think it used just get covered about half, or 75%, now it just gets entirely covered once summer comes around. In my opinion the county should have to take care of the pond, and put some chemicals in there to control the weeds. Like I said, they pretty much don't do a thing about it. And yes the pond is pretty shallow, with the deepest points (which there aren't many), being 4-5feet tops im guessing.
  4. Well I fish from the shore mainly, so in the rain I wear hipboots (Which I pretty much wear all the time), and a poncho.
  5. Just wanted to ask you guys your opinion on this situation. I used to fish this small pond very close to my house, it was nice because it was only a 5min walk, literally. Anyway, back I guess 5 years ago, I used to kill the bass there, I could pretty much throw anything and I'd usually do fairly well. I would walk around the lake, and see bass hangin around the edges, and cruising the shorelines. But over the years it just seemed to get worse and worse, I don't know if people were taking fish out of there (which is 1 thing I've heard might have caused the problem). But I can tell you that the lake gets completely covered with weeds/muck once the summer starts to roll around. I mean it just gets covered, to a point where you can't even see the water anymore, its just a big area of green slop. Now I heard somewhere that this kills the bass cause the plants absorb all the oxygen out of the water etc. Maybe thats true, couldn't tell you. I don't remember if it always used to get covered with the slop like this, so can't say if thats the reason of the bass decline. (By the way no one takes care of this pond, the county just doesn't seem to care about it, so its pretty much left on its own) I take trips to the lake every now and again to see if its improving at all and I catch a bass here and there when im lucky, mainly small ones, but its just not good, you might get 1-2 if your lucky. Anyways I just wanted to know what you guys might think the problem is, and if you think its going to get better. Im hoping it was people taking fish, because then atleast the fish might populate back up again over the years (because people just don't seem to fish it anymore, or atleast not like they used to). So whats your opinion on this? Has the pond gone down the deep end? Or do you think its going to improve? Its pretty heart breaking for me, because this lake is where I learned to bass fish, and I'd love to be able to fish it again with some good results :'(.
  6. Im a NJ guy . But I fish all local stuff, small ponds/rivers, in and around Union County. Don't go out to the big lakes too often, but occasionally I'll go with my friend (since he has a boat), and check out Hopatcong, Spruce Run, Monksville Reservoir etc. To tell you the truth I prefer my small local stuff, frankly I catch more fish at them :-?.
  7. Here is a video that should pretty much teach you how to t-rig aka texas rig: And here is a article about the texas rig: http://www.***.com/guides/texasrig.html Hope that helps . By the way, the bullet weight is optional.
  8. Doesn't seem like anything thats really going to make a difference IMO. I believe when it comes to freshwater bass, the scent takes places after they hit the bait and have it in their mouth, I may not be correct here, but thats my opinion on the subject. Anyways, from what I've heard about this LC Real Skin, its suppose to release off scent over periods of time due to the real skin, now if you ask me, releasing off scent is pointless as "I" believe bass can't pick it up. And as for it being a hard lure the bass really doesn't hold on to the lure because of all the treble hooks, so the scent really doesn't have a period of time to come into play, making a scented Hard lure pointless IMO. Now as for saltwater, I have experienced things that leads me to believe saltwater fish do indeed pick up scent before actually biting the bait(especially when it comes to fluke), so in the saltwater field of fishing I think something like this may make a difference. But like I said, as for freshwater bass, I don't think its going to make any difference. This is just my honest opinion.
  9. Hmm, im not sure on the titles of each hook, but I'll clear out what I mean. By Offset Shank Worm Hook I mean: http://www.gamakatsu.com/catalog/gif/worm_42.gif And by EWG Hook, I Mean http://img.***.com/ProductImages/GOSWG.JPG I now see that they are both titled as offset my mistake . But by the "Offset Shank Worm Hook" I was refering to a "J" type weedless hook.
  10. Hey, just wanted to know when each of these hooks are best used? Ive heard a few people talking about using Offset Shank Worm Hooks on senkos, and I usually use EWG Hooks for them. So this makes me believe im not too sure on which each of these hooks should come into play. At the moment the only time I use Offset Shank Worm Hooks is on Super Flukes, or any soft jerbait for that matter. Can anyone tell me when is the right situation for each of these two hooks? I've also heard Offset Shank Worm Hooks have a better hook up ratio then EWGs ?
  11. In the past I've only heard bad things about them, but it seems like some people like them. As for me I don't really like any of Berkley's hardbaits, I pretty much only buy Berkley for softbaits.
  12. Never heard of the attractant you said you seen on the show Bassectomy, but I use Megastrike on softbaits, and Yum Crawfish Spray on jigs.
  13. "we quit around noon to take a break from the heat." Ok now thats just going too far!! >!! ;D. Anyways nice fish, I'd kill for a fish like that.. just kiddin.. or am I!? :
  14. Did you say "The only *problem* was about every 15 min we would catch a fish."!? Hell I'd love to catch a fish every 15mins right about now, you don't know how good you got it >. Anyways nice fish, nothing like a good day of fishing .
  15. Same with me, I rather beat my pb. But I couldn't resist voting for catching 50 average size bass cause that just sounds too good.
  16. Wow, that thing is beautiful .
  17. Where you guys find these baits, can't seem to find em on ***.com.
  18. Wow, great responses, the Costa seems to be the fav. Anyways, I'll probably go with the grey if I get a pair as that was stated to be the best overall lense color. Oh, and I took a look on ***, and can't seem to find the costas, they don't sell them? I was on the site roadwarrior listed taking a look at them, and there are many many different versions, which one do you prefer? Take into consideration im fishing from the bank pretty much 95% of the time.
  19. Oh by the way fourbizz, I sent you a pm, hope you got it. And thanks for the advice, maybe I will put in the 60 for a good pair of glasses, even though it'll cut into my bait money .
  20. Hey, I've been using these cheap 20$ pair of polarized glasses and I can see fairly well into the water, but I recently took a look at some of the pairs online, especially the expensive ones 60$+. Just wanted to know if they let you see any better then the cheapos, is there a big difference? Or do the cheapos let you see just as well? Whats your opinion on this?
  21. Tell me about it, I spent 20$ yesterday because I seen some bitsy bugs in the color I liked and couldn't find anywhere else, darn Walmart. Anyway I also need to make a order of about 45$ before spring comes along, im trying to hold out on it until the last minute so it doesn't feel like im spending as much money :.
  22. I bought a pack of their small bucktail jigs, I posted about them but didnt get a response, can anyone tell me, would you fish them with a trailer, or trailerless?
  23. Here are some jerkbaits: http://www.luckycraft.com/luckycraftimages/productnews/walleye2_pointer_s.jpg http://www.cansionpesca.com/tiendaonline/images/rapala-xrap-10-14.jpg I prefer a small rapala jerkbait in the winter, about the exact size of the gold/black jerkbait on the bottom in this link: http://www.yo-zuri.com/images/Prod3dMicro/3D-MinnowText.jpg Now around here in NJ its pretty darn cold, in the low 40s, im not fishing for bass atm, cause its just too difficult, I'll wait for March, anyways even in March the temperature is still pretty cold, so when im fishing the jerkbaits in this cold water I'll fish them really slow, as slow as I can make myself go. I use suspending jerkbaits for winter, not floating.
  24. Can't go wrong with Zoom Super Flukes, just a great bait. Anyways, as for the gulp, the only gulp product I like is the 6inch Nightcrawlers (but you have to find a bag thats just right, not too soft, not too hard, not bent, and that ain't easy. Also the saltwater gulp products are some good stuff.)n They make a Berkley Powerbait soft jerkbait thats pretty good, and it'll bring more of a scent appeal into the playing field, if thats what your looking for. Imo though you can just as easily rub some Megastrike on the Super Fluke and have the same deal. I'd go with the Super Flukes, but check out the Powerbait Jerkbaits too, there not half bad.
  25. Hey, just bought a pack of these tiny Mini Bucktail Jigs which I plan to throw for crappie and small bass. My question to you guys is I've never fished a bucktail jig before, do you usually use a trailer with it, such as a single tail grub? Or do you fish them trailerless? Take into consideration this thing is small, a inch I believe, and 1/16ounce. Fish it just like you would a regular Jig-n-pig?
