  1. Ok, I'll have to agree now, the fish isnt 5 pounds. But It also isnt 2pounds 14 oz.. trust me, Ive cought plenty of 2 pounders to know that that fish is over 3. I'll give it 3 1/2 min. Oh well. Oh and to answer the one question...No, I did not see the other fish get weighed in. It was a weekend long tourney, so you can weigh in your fish at any time you want.. also. This things gut was pretty dam big. It may not look like it from the pic, but it was.
  2. oh. I forgot to add. I lost to a local kid that cought a 3 pounder
  3. Hey all. Sorry for the delay, but I finally got my pic uploaded on photobucket. Well last weekend I went to a lake for the weekend in Pittsfield, IL. They had a tourney that went all weekend long, and it was a Big fish tourney. Well me and my cousin entered it. On saturday we went out on the boat and figured we'd throw some big spinnerbaits, big jigs, etc. because this lake's visibility is only about 3-4 inches at most. Well in one of the first casts, I cought about a 2 pounder. I figured i'd weigh it in just for the heck of it. But we stayed out on the boat with my 1 keeper. I was still throwing a black/blue single colorado blade spinnerbait and we were about ready to head in. I said, " this is my last cast" threw it out and started crankin'. I thought i was snagged on something, and then my line started moving sideways (i love it when that happens.lol) I reeled it it, and after about 5 jumps, I lipped the fish. I thought it was pushin' 5 pounds at the time. So i took the fish to the weigh in station. Let me give u a little backround info on this lake: it is a small lake that is surrounded by a HUGE campground, this lake is WAY over fished, and it is about 20-30 years old. That being said, they used the scale that was about 20 years old. Well I weighed my big one, and it said it only weighed 2 pounds 14 oz. I argued with the guy for a little bit, and finally gave up. Once again, this fish is about 4 or 5 pounds. Tell me what u think. The big one is on the left. and the small one is on the right. Here u go.

thanks for all the help guys....so basically wait for the fish to take up all the slack?....I was also open water froggin, so there wernt TOO many explosions....most just came up and sucked it in....I was using a mh rod with a shimano citica 200d with 40 pound powerpro....so i guess i got the equiptment right somewhat.
  10. VERY,VERY nice!!!
  11. I just got this from a web site..hope fully it helps.... "Growth rates are highly variable with differences attributed mainly to their food supply and length of growing season. Female bass live longer than males and are much more likely to reach trophy size. By age two or three, females grow much faster than male bass. Males seldom exceed 16 inches, while females frequently surpass 22 inches. At five years of age females may be twice the weight of males. One-year old bass average about seven inches in length and grow to an adult size of 10 inches in about 1-1/2 to 2-1/2 years. The oldest bass from Florida whose age has been determined by fisheries biologists was 16 year of age. Generally, trophy bass (10 pounds and larger) are about 10 years old. The formula used by Florida scientists to estimate weight based on length and girth is: log(weight, in grams) = -4.83 + 1.923 x log(total length, in mm) + 1.157 x log(girth, in mm). Click here for an automated formula, and here to determine how to properly measure your fish."
  12. sorry i cant answer your question...but they seem to be growing pretty quick, and look very healthy...good job

I went out this morning and threw on a bronzeye frog (rainforest yellow)... I had like 30 hits on it this morning, including a 4+ pounder that exploded on it....I didnt hook any! I waited the 2 seconds to set the hook, and it just didnt work....What happend? do you think the frog was too big for there mouths?
  19. Last night i went out and figured i'd give a carolina rig a chance...now i hardly use the carolina rig so bear with me. First cast i caught a blue gill half the size of my worm....why would that bite? A few cast later, I SNAGGED a 3/4 pound blue gill....and near the end of the trip i caught a 3 pound flat head catfish on the c-rig....Any one else have similar expierance with a c-rig.....Oh and i went out this morning and cought a 3 1/2 pound largie on a zara.
  20. I usually use the Regular Brush hog.... It seems to produce alot bigger fish.
  21. Definatly not me! nice fish. I had a bunch of hits on buzz baits today, but couldnt really get em.
  22. Being that you are so far up north...it may be hard to catch a fish on a frog...or any topwater for that fact...I'm not saying it cant be done, but its hard.....You can get it at bass pro, but try using a spinnerbait...such as anything thats made by War Eagle...If the fish are slow, you can fish a finesse worm (check my signature, webb's makes amazing worms) fished on a jighead.....How far can you see into the water? like is the visibility only a foot or two, or is it really clear.
