Find ponds/lakes easier in your area
Both google earth and usgs have been used by me for a long time. Someone on a forum somewhere suggested ACME mapper and it is really good as well. You can get topo, aerial, and roads off of it.

BassResource.com Bank/Boat Fishermen Survey
Mostly boat, but do a lot of bank fishing as well as walking down to my boat dock and making a couple of casts two or three times a day.

Golf course lunker
If you all would get up as early as us greenscutters you could catch a lot of fish on golf course ponds. Being a golf course superintendent, I have caught fish on every course I have worked at. Fifteen minutes here and there, lunch, whenever. I have carried a rod in my bag many times when playing a scramble that are usually sssllllllloooooooowwwwwww. People usually laugh when they see a rod in my bag, but change their tune when I catch 2 or 3 fish when waiting to tee off. Speaking of which, I am at work right now, I might just go make a couple of casts right now. By the way, nice fish!

What would be your fav lure if you were a bass?
If I were a bass, I would have been in the frying pan before I turned 2 ;D Probably would have eaten a yellow and black bettle spin thrown by some 7 year old.

new to the forum
GBF, Lake Fork is about 80 miles east of Dallas. It is 'special' because...It holds the current Texas record of 18.18 (yes, I know, WR was caught in Georgia), 35 out of the top 50 bass recorded in Texas have come out of Fork, more share-a-lunkers have come out of Fork than any other lake in Texas (SAL is a 13# + bass donated to the TPWD for breeding), I personally have caught more 8 and 9 # bass out of that lake than all the other lakes I have fished combined. It is only a 6 hour drive for me, but I'll do it 5 - 6 times a year. My facts might not be 100% correct but they are close. All I can say is "TRY IT, YOU'LL LIKE IT" Oh, by the way, welcome Skillet, I'll let you know when I hear anything new.

Search and Follow-up Baits
Agree with what shad and crazed said. Another thought is that what you are getting 'bumped' on might not be quite the right color they are looking for at the time. Same lure, different color. Have had this scenerio many times with cranks, jerkbaits, and spinner baits.

Byron & Mary

Kissing your fish
I kiss the bigger ones, but almost always tell the rest of them thank you and how pretty they are. Then ask them to send me their momma or grandma!

need help on winter bass
That is such a small lake, just fish all the bankline in the first hour then work your way out! ;D ;D I'm sure you can't find any grass at all. Didn't it just come up about 8' in the last few weeks? Only fished it once, but I would hit the north bluffs in Arrowhead (?) with a senko, swimming senko, or bitsy bug type jig. Then work your way back.

You know you've got it bad when...
I just went home for lunch and I noticed the strip pit I live on had some open water in front of my dock. Grabbed a rod with a jig n pig and walked down to the deck to make a cast. d**n near fell on by butt walking down the steps with ice still on them :-[

Oakley Polarized sunglasses?
I work outside most of the time. About 15 years ago I started wearing Oakley sunglasses. One of the smartest moves I have made. Stupid expensive but IMHO worth every hundred My fishing glasses are polarized black iridium M-frames. The M-frame is not as cool looking as some other styles but they keep the wind out while running across the lake. They are great with the only drawback being early morning, late afternoon, and cloudy days. I need to get an amber lens for those times, just haven't done it yet. You will be very happy with the Oakleys.

Biggest fish of '07 so far...
8# 4oz. Lake Fork, January 25th, 1:00 PM on a rogue in Little Mustang. Fifteen minutes lost a HOG same area, same bait.

How is your weather this morning?

Great Buy...but could be bad news..
A friend of mine is the store manager here. He said that they will be cutting back a bunch on fishing and hunting stuff. I personally believe it has a lot to do with all the BPS, Cabellas, Dicks, Academy, etc. Which is fine if you live in a medium to larger size city, but us poor goobers that live in or near small towns are pretty much screwed. Yes, there is probably no reason to carry shotguns in Chicago or AC plugs in Des Moines, or ice fishing gear in Plano, but I find it hard to believe that a properly stocked department for the particular region wouldn't be profitable. Besides that, when the ole lady is shopping, I just don't get that excited about looking at oil filters and spark plugs!

Making your own map
WOW! Ditto!!

Making your own map
gman, usgs maps is what I use alot. I'll find the coordinates, get the normal pool level and color in the supposed shore line. Between USGS, terra server, ACME mapper, and topo-zone I can usually find the small lake topography before it was inundated. Granted, this doesn't allow for silting in or man made changes, but they will show old roads, cemeteries, buildings, etc.

LA CYGNE question
If you go across the dam, and past the power plant turn back north about 3/4 of a mile, then another left there is access. It's been a long while since I have been over there, but I think it is about a 1/4 mile walk to the discharge. There is a pool back there that I used to fish and put my boat in. The temp right now probably would be in the mid 60's. Super shallow, but used to be a lot of bass and crappie in it. If the water has come up any, you can put in at the second (north) ramp which is directly across from the discharge. Water should be fairly warm in that area and close to good fishing this time of year.

LA CYGNE question
Oh, buy the way huskertko, 43-9. I know, this will come back to haunt me, but, WOW :exclamation
-
LA CYGNE question
The discharge is north of the towers. You just have to look where the heaviest fog is ;D. The great thing about La Cygne is that you can catch fish on topwater right now, you just have to dip your rod in the warm water to keep the eyelets from freezing up . There are also plenty of whites and wipers on the flats near the discharge. Fun lake to fish. Good Luck!

Tired of ice!
I got so tired of it I went to Texas Fri. -Mon. Didn't catch a bunch, but had an 8# 4oz, two 5's, and a few others. At least I got a little reprieve from cabin fever. ;D
