  1. RW, Pat Mayes (across the road from Brannans) is a good lake. Buddy caught a 10# out of there a few years ago and I usually catch quite a few 3 - 6 pounders. Grand Lake of the Charokees is pretty tough to beat in NE Oklahoma. There are some smaller lakes on that chain that are good, too.
  2. FALL. Topwater, schools, less people on the lake, better weather.
  3. Let's see: Several rods and reels numbers of caps cell phone many pliers tackle box rain jacket MYSELF lures off the front deck and I'm sure more!
  4. Stopped there Sunday on the way back from Falcon and fished for about two and a half hours. Caught one peanut on a point by the river channel on a spinner bait. No other bites!
  5. Let's see: Drain plug rear tie down straps winch strap kill switch keys Hopefully I won't add too many more to my Darwin list. ;D
  6. I might add six (6) consecutive conference championships in my choice of Bill Self.
  7. Vinegar and water in a 50/50 solution.
  8. I'm so tired of it I went to Falcon a couple of weeks ago, it was 86 the first day and never got out of the 50's the rest of the week. Just for that, I'm going back next week!! Hopefully it'll be a little warmer.
  9. Went down 2 weeks ago and had a pretty good trip. No picture fish but a bunch four and five pounders with the largest being 7.40#. State park was OK and have reservations for March 1st through the 6th. Too bad about the fish kill, but I guess I'll just take my chances. 8-)
  10. For a first timer on Fork, my #1 suggestion would be to get a good map and study areas you described. Secondly, do not get intimedated by the lake. Even though there are not nearly as many visible trees as there use to be, everywhere still looks fishy. Almost any ramp on the lake is close to weeds and deep water. As cold as it's been, I'd definately fish the north coves or at least the north banks of the other coves. Rainswood ramp--Quick run up Birch Creek. Williams, Little and Big Mustang--Several places to put in and you can fish all week in these areas. Little Caney--Put in at Hideaway Harbour and your right in the middle of good spots. Public ramp by Minnow Bucket--Close to everything you're looking for. Caney Point--Close to the dam, probably cooler water but good fishing area. The infamous red rattle trap, spinner bait, watermelon red flukes, swim senkos, brush hogs, and most any other soft plastic. 1- can be deadly as well as rogues or other jerk baits. Just stay close to the marker bouys and don't run if there isn't any, take it slow. Hope this helps some and good luck.
  11. I love my beer. If I'm in the boat, I will not drink. I don't trust the idiots out there whether they are drinking or not. I want all my senses functioning at top level when I'm on the water. Well, as top level as I have, anyway.

I was down there the 8th thru the 11th. Started out in the low to mid 60's then dropped to 57 - 60 when the cold wind came through.
  13. In a tournament I'll weigh them all. If just fun fishing around here I'll weigh if it's 5 or so pounds. In Texas (where I'm heading in a couple of hours) I'll weigh if 7 or more pounds.
  14. You found a great forum.
  15. I fish strip pits around here and always carry. Had a game warden stop me (cautiously) and asked me why I was carrying. I told him that I hate snakes and I hate meth-heads. He told me to have a nice day.
  16. Nice fish! Going to fish Welch on Saturday, then off to Falcon for a few days.
  17. I won't go into details, but he wasn't exactly a church boy when he was at KU.
  18. There's one coach that has won 20+ games the past seven seasons at the same school and monday will be back at #1 (which means nothing this time of the year). Bill (ROCK CHALK) Self.
  19. I posted this on another forum but thought I'd try here as well. I'm finally going to get to do some Texas bass fishing in the next couple of weeks. I haven't been south since Sept. and it's killing me. I'm planning on going to Falcon, since I haven't been there in years, and can't seem to find any rooms around Zapata. Man, I wish my aunt and uncle still lived there. Was thinking about staying at Falcon St. Park and was wondering if any one had any information about it. Is it safe? Is there a boat ramp? Is there any good fishing close to there? Any where to eat breakfeast and supper close? Any and all information would be appreciated. Thanks!
  20. 10.25 largemouth, jig n pig, Purtis Creek St. Park, Texas, ealy December, blue bird day, 11:00 am. Only caught 5 fish that day on 5 different lures. Smallmouth 4#, Wolf Creek power plant, Kansas, noonish, zara spook, February, cloudy, and caught a bunch of fish that day.
  21. Hate to say it, too.....................crocks. They are the most comfortable shoes I've worn. Don't get the fake ones, they hold odors bad and wear out quick.
  22. I'm not sure there is any real way to explain it. I just pitch-skip the same way I pitch only a lot faster motion and maybe a little more side arm. I usually use 65# braid and learned by putting a piece of tape around the spool with about 20 yards of line out to keep the backlashes professional overruns to a minimum. Best advice...just practice, practice, practice on the water.
  23. Back in '88, in SW Iowa, in February I threw a jig n pig on the ice, let it fall over the edge and caught a 5# bass. The next cast I did the same thing in the same place and caught my (at the time) personal best 8# 11 oz. So just get out there when you can.
  24. What Long Mike said. I personally like Lake Fork Marina, clean rooms, great food, best tackle shop, in the same area as Fisherman's Cove. A ton of guides take off out of there. Just watch out for that tall goober in the tackle shop. ;D Not a dry county anymore. I've done some major damage on a couple of boats. Do not run anywhere but the boat lanes and even the secondary lanes can bite you. If you can, get a "professional" guide the first day. It will get you on the current pattern and can turn a crappy trip into a great trip. I say "professional" because there are a bunch of "guides" that only show up in the spring, so do your research. Like Mike said, just read Tom's and other guide reports. Most of them are pretty accurate and not last months patterns. Have fun, and good luck.
