  1. lol...? Never seen anyone recommend a product on here? Come on...
  2. Kistler rods are underrated in my opinion. I've used the old Magnesium & Heliums and a Z Bone. All great rods. They're built on North Fork blanks
  3. Cabela's has Fenwick Silverhawks for $60 (regular $100) and Cabela's Prodigy reels (made by Daiwa) for $60 (regular 100) with coupon code... Those are both great deals, get 2 of each, that's only half your budget and you get 2 nice setups.
  4. Thanks for the tip, I would definitely try one of those on a top toad
  5. Doesn't matter, it's an awesome collection
  6. Just googled it. Here's another, looks like this one was taken a couple years earlier though
  7. http://www.fishingtalks.com/the-zebco-33-their-all-time-best-seller-2179.html Not lures, but an amazing reel collection I came across recently & here's the kid with the largest ratl trap collection (that's not all of them)
  8. If it's the same weight & same size then they should fall at the same rate I think
  9. @Patrick Fleming LOL what a frustrating experience... I bet you'll remember to check your hooks from now on...
  10. Last winter I was making a pitch and the line caught suddenly and the rod & reel literally jumped right out of my hand! My hands were cold so my grip was very loose, and I made that cast one-handed so it just hopped right out and into the lake. Luckily I was quick enough to grab it before it sunk, but I got wet up to my elbows so I was freezing for the next little while

I changed my mind after I voted. I'd choose SK because they have a good senko (ocho) in addition to their good hard baits. GY has some hard baits but not as good.
  12. I've done that exact thing, but my dad had quick reflexes and grabbed them before they sunk.
  13. Just straight up ask. Some companies even have a "charitable donation" link on their site. If not, call/email customer service of a bunch of different fishing companies and see what they say. I'd talk to local businesses too, especially fishing shops.
  14. Wow that is a really tough choice... I'd probably lean towards the metanium just because of weight. For general use you don't need ultra-tough like the zillion. Not that the metanium isn't tough but you get my point
  15. http://www.fishingtalks.com/the-zebco-33-their-all-time-best-seller-2179.html Amazing! I'm jealous...
  16. I think the E6X is a very good rod for less than $200. Not grossly expensive but still has a high end feel to it

I've never had that happen except when the line gets tangled with one of the trebles... There's got to be something more significant than a minor tuning issue here
  18. Wow, nice fish!! I'm sorry that someone would go out of their way to condemn you, I think they were just jealous that they can't catch a bag that big...
  19. Either way, that's my point. They use NFC blanks...
  20. Also @EvanT123 are there any custom builders who have carbon fiber handles?
  21. Wow, that's quite a deal! I'll have to watch for that from now on...
  22. But Edge is an offshoot of NFC...? Also @Goose52, now I see on NFC's website where they list the HM as $70 higher than IM for the blank. Interesting that they wouldn't use their highest quality blank on a $550 rod...
  23. @Goose52 Thanks for the info, that's really helpful. I didn't see that TT review when I searched earlier, I only found the Edge flippin stick review, so thanks for linking that. So is the IM blank inferior to the HM? I honestly am glad that they did away with the spiral-wrap, I really like that idea largely because I don't like the idea of setting the rod down on a hard surface and having the tip top upside down, if that makes sense. Good to know it is NRX-class sensitivity. I will keep your comments in mind when deciding on what to do. I have a least a couple more weeks worth of saving to do before I make any final decisions. Thanks again.
  24. Cabela's has Fenwick Silverhawks for $60, regularly $100, right now. They do that sale a couple times per year, seems like a decent buy for those who like to stay sub-$100 for their rods. I will say, the one that I've used is called a Medium but definitely seems more like a Medium Heavy, so keep that in mind
