  1. Definitely not with my hand. jj
  2. What about people who live next to the train tracks? If they're eating breakfast, do they quit when a train goes by? No. They're used to it. You said you caught bass there before, right? If so, then they're like those people living next to the train tracks; they're used to it. jj
  3. Cashion Finesse Crankbait series. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/catpage-CASHIONROD.html?from=basres There was a medium power 3/16-5/8 also. Possibly out of production. jj
  4. Abso-rooty-tootin'-lutely! Unplanned fishing opportunities are the best ones! jj
  5. And here I thought you had come up with a recipe for a new walleye bait! ? jj
  6. I have a lake like that near me. I use the 1/2 oz. red from their Salmon and Steelhead family. I always thought it imitated a craw. Don't know for sure, but it catches'em.
  7. Ever try Rain-X? It's supposed to be one of the "Big Secrets". jj
  8. Maxima Chameleon is calling your name! jj
  9. In the middle of February, we drive on the ice. ? I'm gonna print that on a T-shirt! ? I don't know how many, but I'm one of them. jj
  10. On a side note: One of the lakes close to here (Lake Geode in Iowa) was drained 4 years ago. Grass and brush grew high and dense in the basin. It re-filled just this year, but because of budget restrictions, they couldn't remove the vegetation. This is the lake I mentioned before, that gave me problems understanding how the fish react to thermoclines. Re-stocking begins 22 October. Because both of the papers referenced above mention the added oxygen-depletion capabilities of decaying plant life, I expect the first year to be especially rough on fish. We might have a fish kill in our future. We'll see. jj
  11. I came across these as I was trying to learn something about the DO level below thermoclines. I also had an interesting conversation with a DNR fisheries biologist about pH and oxygen buffer capacities. ? ? ? jj
  12. I didn't know that oxygen levels in water decrease over night in lakes! I've preferred to fish just before dark rather than at dawn. Now I know why. https://plants.ifas.ufl.edu/manage/overview-of-florida-waters/water-quality/dissolved-oxygen/ https://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/publication/fa002
  13. Whenever you see an area on Earth that has problems, you can generally figure out the reason for those problems. That goes for this place, that place or any other place. But people don't want to face reality. So ...... the problems get worse. Welcome to Chicago. Welcome to Beirut. Welcome to Belgrade. Welcome to Pretoria Welcome to Tijuana Welcome to the human race. jj
  14. The only one I've used to any effect was the Mr. Crappie Slab Hammer, by Strike King. It wasn't great, just so-so. I've caught ten times as many crappie on small spoons, jigs and spinners, so I've never really gotten aggressive with cranks. jj
  15. There are more aluminum alloys than you can shake a stick at. Some of them are extremely durable. I have no idea which particular alloy Shimano used here, but various companies have used aluminum alloy gears for years and have had no problems. With their worldwide presence and reputation, especially in racing bicycle gears, I seriously doubt Shimano would try to pull a fast one. The alloy is probably first-rate. jj
  16. I'd like to think I mainly use "tried and true" lures. I've got a lot of other stuff laying around, though, that are "tried and un-true", so to speak. I like to experiment, and not every experiment is successful! ? jj
  17. Take this with a grain of salt: 1) All "S" series round reels are made in China out of Chinese parts. 2) On the ABU Garcia website, the Ambassadeur Pro Rocket BE and the Ambassadeur 100th Anniversary models have a subscript "Made in Sweden". As far as I could see, none of the others do. 3) However, Tackle Warehouse lists the Beast, C3 and C4 series as "Made in Sweden". 4) I would e-mail ABU Garcia for better information, including where individual parts are manufactured. jj
  18. The greatest satisfaction is likely to come from professional work. I had a reel a few years ago that was "geary". After all my efforts failed, a professional got it working perfectly. Sometimes you just gotta do what you just gotta do. ? jj
  19. This is a question to put to the factory people. Some "finesse" reels are not as robust as regular-size reels, while others are smaller form-factor but still quite strong. I've talked with Shimano about this in the past, and I've gotten helpful answers. That being said, you have to work up the line a little bit, and not believe the first person who answers the phone or e-mail. I found that to be especially true with Daiwa. When you correspond with a company, always have a clear list of the reels from them that are NOT comfortable for you. That gives them a clearer reference. jj
  20. e-mail @Glenn and ask him. It's his site. jj
  21. A retiree from California said this, too. I didn't believe it, but evidently it's true. jj
  22. Of course, there are some crazy people ? who want to use the lightest line possible to get the greatest distance possible, and then the line becomes the critical part of the equation, not the rod. I have no idea who some of those people might be. ? jj
  23. I e-mailed Daiwa about this. The Daiwa Tatula 150 is advertised as holding 150 yards of 14 lb. test. The Curado 200K is advertised as holding 110 yards of 14 lb. test. In reality, they hold exactly the same amount of line. I asked about this in my e-mail. The answer that I got was that Daiwa USA did not know which line the main office specified for their capacities. They "thought" it was some sort of fluorocarbon, but were not sure. They didn't know capacities by diameter. Really? The Tatula 200 is the same reel as the 150, with two exceptions. The arbor on the 200 is much smaller, so as to hold more line. IPT will be commensurately lower, too. And the 200 uses Magforce, not Magforce-Z. I have 50 lb.test Sufix 832 on my Tatula 150. I have always used 10-20 feet of mono as backing on all my reels that used braid, whether spinning or casting. On one cast with a 1 oz. Dardevle spoon, I got into the backing. That doesn't necessarily mean that you will, though. Maybe @garroyo130 is right. Good luck! jj
  24. Yes, but say to whom? A lot of the people I see fishing don't respond to polls. jj
