  1. I got this rod about a month ago and have really liked it so far! Although the action is faster than you are wanting, I got mine primarily for weightless soft plastics. They might have a model with a little slower action.
  2. The heaviest rods I currently have are several 6'6" -7' Castaways in MH. I want to get a rod specifically for Carolina Rigs/Frogs/Jigs. Something better suited to fishing heavier baits. My plan is to fish braid on them with a Lews Speed Spool. What rod would be the best bang for my buck and be under $150? I've looked at rods in the 7'3" - 7'6", does that seem like I'm on the right track? Looked at several different models. Lew's, Duckett, H20, All Star Nano, Abu Garcia? I've read that the Abu Garcias are heavier than what they are rated for, would a MH Veritas serve my purpose where I might get a H in another brand? Thanks for any advice I appreciate it!
  3. Nice fish! Which frog is that?
  4. My top 3 would be these I've caught bout everything on them. Other than that I've caught a lot of stuff on the little rebel crawfish and grasshoppers and curly tail grubs and beetle spins also.
  5. I've had a lot of luck with the Bandit Footloose and Manns Baby 1-minus
  6. Yeah just take it in to the store and they will replace the reel no questions asked!
  7. I like the Heddon Tiny torpedos in the clear and frog colors. I'll typically rip it but I've caught fish with different retrieves, just gotta see what they want that day. I'll fish the next size up or a devils horse if the water is rougher.
  8. I've had pretty good success with that bait too
  9. I like the shad and bluegill colors.
  10. I grew up down there and while that area does not have the type bass fishing opportunities that deep east Texas does where I live now there are definitely plenty of places to fish! Sheldon lake has pretty decent bass fishing. Definitely the potential for a really big fish in there. Only thing to watch for is there are lots of big alligators and the launch area is kind of sketchy. It used to be pretty bad but they put up cameras and the sheriff office upped there patrols. Last I heard it had gotten better. Sheldon is a shallow weedy reservoir with tons of vegetation. I've fished there from the bank and out of a canoe and never had issues with gators or ppl. Lake Houston does have bass as well. It's not really known for bass fishing but it can be good at times. Luces bayou on the upper end of the lake typically has the clearest water and is the most natural with woods and vegetation along the banks. Much of the rest of the lake is bulkheaded and the main structure is docks along the shoreline and underwater structure such as humps, points and an old road bed that runs across by the lake patrol HQ. There are a couple bridges going across the lake too. Highlands reservoir is supposed to have decent bass but I never tried it. Armand Bayou is brackish water and they have bass it's a really nice place to take a kayak. Dont overlook drainages, retention ponds and bayous around town that hold water I've heard of ppl catching some fish out of those. Not necessarily great size but good numbers of fish up to 3-4 lbs. just park, walk up and fish. Hope this helps ya out some.
