Another surprise!
For those who asked..... Yop the perch here get bigger than their North-american "counterparts". The yellow perch in europe is known as the Perca fluviatilis, whereas the american one is known as the Perca Flavescens. Daniel and I posted a couple of big perch a short while ago in the "Other Fish" section a short while ago : http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1203286470/0 BTW Daniel, that new perch on Pro-blinker is big, but I doubt it is a world record..... Come on, the fish wasn't even measured, let alone weighed ! Plus the guy is hiding his hands too much.... I would say a + or - 50cm fish.

Obese perch
Well Tony, then I guess this perch is full of eggs. Still a fat one for this size though. Daniel, we have ugly-fat perch even in La Seine.... and this is not really a slow moving river. But the water is pretty warm year long.
-
Obese perch
Considering the spawn has been over for a few months, or at least weeks in Connecticut I guess, that's a fat one indeed. Most likely full of tiny fish and even its own baby-perch. @ Daniel : we do get the most obese fish in the rivers here..... More food ! And right before the spawn those perch are football here.

Funny "newbie" fishing mistakes
Well it seems the classics are universal ! We also have the upside-down spinning reels here, and other stuff you mentioned. There used to be a bilboard ad in the subway for an insurance company depicting a "fisherman" with the upside-down spinning reel mounted on a baitcasting rod. Man, this little trigger gotta hurt your hand ;D I , for one, had a pleasant encounter on the shore of a lake. So I was shore-fishing and casting a Flashminnow. That one guy came up and watched me.... After like 30 seconds, he told me : "Oh you're fishing with rapalas" (here everything that has trebble hooks IS a rapala : ... people don't understand that Rapala is just a brand, not a generic name) to which I answered that I was fishing with artificials not Rapalas. I eventually caught a few fish in from of him and that's when he decided to give me the best piece of advice ever. "you should put little maggots on the each point of the hooks. That would attract the baitfish, which would then attract the bigger fish and the bigger fish should be able to distinguish your "RAPALA" amongst the real bait fish and attack it." That was the dumbest piece of advice (fishing related) that I was ever given. And of course I (politely) told the old guy that he had no idea what he was talking about, and of course he took it bad and I gained a few curse words. As for funny newbie fishing stuff, once on a beach in south-western France I saw a guy trying to cast Fly-Fishing style with a surf-casting outfit. I think we will have to credit Mr Redford and his movie "And a River runs through it" for that one.

Another surprise!
Hey nice fish Daniel ! That's your first nice Egli for the year, isn't it. So they're here at last ! Speaking of one-eyed bass, I once caught one that was 100% blind and on a spinnerbait too. So much for bass hunting mainly with their sight

KVD says 'Pass the Mojo'
Nope Dave, he didn't fish with it ! He got to touch it before the final day though (if I got it right). And I can tell you it helped him on the final day..... ;D ! He almost lost to Horton. Anyway, no wonder why KVD is the most respected guy on the tour. He's not only a phenomenal fisherman, he also seems to be a class act. I'd love to meet him, that's for sure.

MN Bassers
Yop the Mississippi river right in St Cloud is also a killer spot for smallies. Right along the Riverside Dr SR and especially the big rocks in front of the beautiful Munsinger garden. (it's been awhile since I last fished it though, it was still good 1 1/2 year ago.) As for largemouth bass, I've only fished them in Twin/Sylvia lake and on Sugar lake.... but that's not exactly the St Cloud area. I asked the question, because I was wondering about the many lakes in Richmond, or like Bigfish lake, in case I should return at the end of summer. Way too many lakes in MN anyway

I second the posts on the Pointer. The best all-around hardbait by LC My choice would be a Pointer 100SP in Pearl Ayu.

berkley digital lip grip
Yop my mistake !! Just checked mine after Daniel's response, (or what's left of mine). It still doesn't rotate, but it looks like it was designed to do so. Maybe a deffective ball-bearing or something. My mistake ! :-X So, I was wrooonng ! Wroooong ! But I still don't like them grips

I'd most likely win it, fishing from shore ;D Hopefully he'll take some more points this weekend on Old Hickory lake.

How big are south African bass?
Well everything is balanced on this planet. I think is not so much how fast they will grow but rather how fast and how long they will grow. And the warmer the weather, the faster bass grow... that's a fact ! But then again, those bass tend to die earlier. I still think California will produce the next W. Record (depending on how you see it, it already has). Still I know from a South-African friend that South Africa has huge bass, that they grow big, fat fast. But I've yet to see a 20pounder from Africa. Even Zimbabwe only had a 19 something if I remember well. And I guess bass populations in Zimbabwe have taken a beating, since old Mugabe is starving the population. Anyway, beautiful pictures, awesome fish and welcome on Bass Resource.

Creature Baits
I'm partial to Zoom Brush Hogs in all the sizes. But lately I've come to appreciate GYCB Flappin' Hog too. A pity it is so fragile though.

Non-lethal deer hunting?

I would lie to see that. oh ! and half the field run the five laps the other way around. Those who survive the 5 laps get to peel off toward their fishing holes. I think that would increase the attendance by ten plus fold. ;D

My first crankbait...
Yop that's a nice shape.... Can't wait to see the en-product either.

MN Bassers
Glad you had a great Weekedn on the water. I sure miss those MN smallies. Speaking of MN, does any MN angler here fish the St Cloud area ?

That's a good idea ! But that would be interesting if the numbers were based on the previous-year AOY standings. (as it's been said) That would make it easier for those who don't follow the sport to figure out who's who !

berkley digital lip grip
So I see, we actually agree with each other. (I may have a hard time explaining myself sometimes). I think clamps on Berkley's grips, (on most grips for that matter) are always metal without plastic guard. And yes, that's why I'd also love to have a Xtools Scale.... maybe soon.

How to fish the Sweet Beaver
I love a Sweet Beaver as a trailer on a jig. If you need to skip jigs under docks or over-hanging trees and stuff, a sweet beaver will really help the jig skip.
