  1. Debs thumper tail swimbait that butch brown keeps teasing me with!
  2. I throw the 130 quite a bit. Here is what I use. Dobyns fury 795 sb my light swimbait rod and a daiwa tatula hd 6:4:1 spooled with 20 lb cxx. Same combo I throw my mattlures gills, huddgills and rats on. Any lure like this I don't use leader knots. These lures can attract a big bite. 8 lb fish in the grass have a funny way of testing your leader knot and I would rather not take the chance.
  3. Peg your weight or throw it weightless. You have to kinda feel the lure, and as it is snagging stop and just shake it off. You have to learn to avoid getting snagged. If it's very thick you can't just bulldog it through. You have to work it. Your question is about t rigging but sometimes a frog on top of the garbage will work better.
  4. I am currently using pline 100% fluoro in 6 lb and I don't like it! I am not asking for braid to fluoro advise. What is your favorite fluoro in 4 to 8 lb test?
  5. The fish can't read! There are no set rules. You have to figure your area out. The big bass around me are almost never that shallow this time of year. I usually look for deeper weeds and mats in 4 fow.
  6. I fish a lot of deep clear rock pit ponds that where made when they built the Oroville lake dam. Most of these ponds have hydrilla in the shallows and pennywort growing off the bank about 5 feet out. In my experience this is where you catch the little guys. As the fish grow they move off the banks and find deep structure or will suspend in deep water. I can take a kayak of float tube and catch 20 fish a day along the shoreline but they are all under 2 lbs or I can drop shot out deep or throw a big worm and look for the fish north of 6 lbs. adult bass are different. Something else I have recently learned is subliminal spots. The main point might hold a bunch of fish but a single rock just off that point can hold the big one.
  7. I don't think the bobber stops would hold strong enough for good hook penetration.
  8. Daiwa tatula brand new on eBay can be had for under 100. For that price they can't be beat!
  9. I don't know why my pics are side ways
  10. Honestly I don't know. The only way to tell would be to start drop shotting with strait braid in 10 lb test which is like 2 or 4 lb mono? I'm on a kick with light line right now lol makes a 4 or 5 lb bass feel like a giant pulling my drag set at 2 or 3 lbs!
  11. My wife chose to marry a fisherman! Lol just kidding!
  12. I wish there was more research on this. Some of my spots have big fish and 15 feet plus visibility. I catch more fish drop shotting with 6 lb then I did with 12. This means for me line can make a difference. Visible hooks can turn off a big old fish as well. Details... Fooling the older bass can be in the details. A split shot can be used 8 inches in front of your worm to keep the line down on the bottom. Some say the older fish can see the line coming from the head of a lure being dragged. I don't think the fish under 4 lbs are as effected by the line visibility as the big fish. Fish grow old and big for a reason. I do believe the older bass are different and learn to pick up problems with a presentation.
  13. I tried to get a better pic but I was on my float tube and by myself!
  14. I have to say I don't want braid. I don't want a leader knot. I just caught s 6 lber yesterday on 6lb fluoro drop shotting with a 25 size pflueger pres. Light drag brought the fish to hand. I will try the spin shot hooks.
  15. what are your thoughts on swivel style ds hooks? Thanks
  16. I fish the drop shot deep (20 to 60 feet) the water visibility is 8 to 15 feet. The area has few weeds and is pretty much structure fishing. I have been fishing straight fluoro in 6 lb. My problem is line twist. I've been thinking of going braid to fluoro leader. What are your thoughts?
  17. I didn't know it was called the fishin fool lol I've just thought it was a uni with doubled over line.
  18. I always call the manufacturer for the exact specs when replacing tip guides. Some times they just give it to you. This is where true customer service is tested and one reason I fish dobyns rods lol
  19. Well hundreds of bass, catfish, striped bass, sturgeon, salmon and steelhead later... I'm over here with no knot failures! Not one! Use what works for ya.
  20. I can definitely agree. One more thing I want to mention is how versatile the uni is. I can tie line to lure, I can tie leaving a long tag end for drop shot, I can snell a hook and I can tie line to line. All using the same uni style knot! But I also realize that just like brand loyalty we all have ou favorites!
  21. I've had palomar knot fail. After watching Arron Martin I adopted his knot. I have never had it break. Also you can double the line and then tie the uni making a double uni! If it doesn't work for you I'm not going to convince you but knot "testing" is subjective. Also the strength of a uni knot can depend on how many wraps you make. Lots of guys tell you 4 or 5. Arron teaches 7 or 8 wraps
