  1. I have the 898 with the Navionics Platinum chip. Never seen the Lakemaster so can't compare, but I'll tell you it has details of Kentucky Lake that I've not seen on any maps.
  2. I have one Quantum....an OLD Iron IR4. It's got a 5:1 retrieve and I use it for cranking. It's never missed a beat in all the years I've had it.
  3. Trailer - never Trailer hook - always
  4. I admit it....I'm guilty of hitting a spot once or twice then moving on, but after watching several different shows this year on the importance of making MULTIPLE casts to one tree/bush/stickup/grass clump I'm going to change the error of my ways.
  5. I always wander thru the fishing dept at the local WallyWorld, not expecting to see much. Yesterday I saw a new section loaded with the KVD Mustad Short-shank trebles. Had to grab one pack just to give them a try . As usual though, the rest of the dept stunk up the place... >
  6. When you fish a lake with 2500 miles of shoreline and is 185 miles long, I figure there's no reason whatsoever to jump in front of me, yet it happens regularly. And, I fish during the week, so these people aren't fishing tournaments, either. Occasionally these transgressors are bass fishermen, but mostly they're crappie/bream anglers. I could tell you some horror stories about some of the crap they've pulled on me. For those people, I definitely will "jump" them and continue on my way. Bass anglers, well, I look at what they're throwing and I'll change rods to something else. Catch a lot of fish that way
  7. I keep watching these guys on TV landing fish with two sets of trebles in their mouth, then while holding the fish in one hand, gently shake the lure with the other and the hooks just pop free. When I get one like that the hooks will barely come out when using a pair of pliers!!! Same thing with jigs or worm hook. They reach in there with two fingers and POP....out it comes. Gotta be black magic or something.... :-?
  8. I didn't know BASSIN' was going to four times a year instead of six . Guess that's why I haven't seen a new issue in the store for so long.
  9. Took the words right out of my mouth 8-)
  10. Remember, it's all about the attitude....
  11. Read somewhere that the rattling KVD squarebills are a BPS exclusive. Not sure on that though.
  12. Most of my rods are spooled with copoly line. Trust me, it works great for topwater as well as anything else you want to do with it.

I for one would absolutely LOVE to see KVD re-write the books today. However, if he so much as burps in the wrong direction, there are others, especially the ones making the run south, who could pull this one out. Chapman got a 20lb stringer in about 70 minutes , so think what he can do if he gets a fog-free day and even more fishing time. If Kevin's area can't produce the fish he needs for a third day, I'd say anyone in the top 5 can win it down south.
  14. I just renewed for another year. While I still enjoy the magazine, I agree it's due for an overhaul. And bring back landing nets. I'm tired of seeing those fish slapped all over the inside of the boat > . As for FLW, I like their magazine articles better than Bassmaster these days.
  15. Would you believe the *^%*$&)) website went down and I can't get any updates????????
  16. One of my favorite C-rig lures is the old Riverside Air Fry and Air Lizard. (Still have a couple bags of each)
  17. KVD already has two fish for about 6.5lb. Aaron Martens is fishing about 60' away from him and has two for around 8lb. (Marshalls estimates). This Classic could turn into a real shootout 8-)
  18. If you're going to be shooting shots in the boat of fish or your boating partner, a 2 or 3 megapixel "point and shoot" should do the job. Inexpensive, and most of the better ones allow you to choose photo size that you can post easily on the internet, or print 4x6 shots of good quality.
  19. Mr. Guitar - Chet Atkins was my first LP. I was just learning to play and listening to that almost scarred me for life ;D
  20. The Bass Pros has been outstanding in all the new episodes this year. Also like Lost Lake and Classic Patterns. They're all set to record weekly on my DVR, along with Hook 'n Look, Pro Team Journal, Strike King Classics, FLW Outdoors, Brauer's Bass Battles, One More Cast, Zona's Show, and Getting Schooled.
  21. Agree. Some really decent articles in FLW Outdoors. As for BASSIN', IMO it's way better than it used to be. The articles were short, and basically didn't say much at all. Today, it's quite a bit better. Not a premier magazine, but not all that bad, either.
  22. I agree with this one . Go back and look at the videos of the older Classics and look at the bags caught with the old "round reels" and shorter pistol grip rods. Finding fish has been made easier thru electronics but you still have to put the right bait in the right spot with the right technique to CATCH them.
  23. If you can get a Veritas for this price............GO FOR IT!!!
  24. I picked up an issue from TW when I placed an order. Frankly, I wasn't too impressed. It seemed to be centered around California lakes....nothing else around the country.....didn't get much out of it. I agree on it being a bit on the steep side for just four issues.
  25. Frankly, as long as I'm catching fish I don't really care about size. They're ALL fun as far as I'm concerned. My two PB's are both over 8 and I just consider them a bonus for a good day's fishing
