  3. Thanks, it will be busy and when it end fishing will be kicking off then there will be much rejoicing lol! Tight lines, keep on keeping on.
  4. Thanks, guess I should of thought about my final semester more before thinking about ice fishing. I'd go if there was more time however my time is a commodity which chasing fish for the sake of finding fish isn't very productive. Don't get me wrong I love to fish just this last semester will require a fair bit of work. Right now all I have is bibs, nothing else and my apartment is small enough let alone adding more equipment. Thanks for the tips though, much appreciated.
  5. Loon plopper has been one of my favorite evening top water baits. Some good bass.
  6. The jury is still out on whether or I'll commit to ice fishing.
  7. Is getting into ice fishing just as fun and expensive as bass fishing lol! I'm kinda tempted to try it out for one season.
  8. Open water this time of year will be tough, lakes are freezing over and you best bet will be rivers with powerplants. Also check your local bodies of waters, you might find some open water. Bass bite has been tough, but what I hear people catching them on are Swim baits, lipless cranks, jerk baits, and spinner baits. I haven't been out since early November and would love to get out however dropping temps will make it difficult.
  9. Trying to get rid of my 13 *** reel actually, the size is just to small.
  10. Going to put this hear simply because you're all Minnesota folks therefore you get first dibs. Dumping my *** 8:1:1 in favor of a slower speed in either Shimano or Abu. Let me know if anyone is interested. Also I haven't gotten out in a while because of school work.
  11. I've found very limited use for an 8:1:1, yet 7:1:1 and 6:4:1 seem to be more appropriate for my uses. Jerkabit my preference is 7:1:1 or around there.
  12. Fished St. Croix this Sunday, my friend and I hammered the smallmouth bass. We easily caught 30+ fish from 7am-3pm. The big hitters were swim bait w/ 3/8 oz and jerkbait Bream color. The morning bite was the best, afternoon it died off hard. Also after fishing with a Shimano Curado reel for part of the day, I think I've fallen in love lol! My top reels now are Abu, Shimano, and Diawa.
  13. Looking to do some smallie fishing from shore. Suggestions pls.
  14. Was fortunate enough to have a member take me out fishing Wednesday on their boat. We were fishing for a solid 3 hours. Lots of bites on the swim jig, dt 4s, and top water at the very end. Biggest bass came on my kvd 1.5 in citrus shad, swim jig produced lots of pike from 16-26inches. At the end the whopper plopper brought in 5 fish; 2 pike and 3 bass. Overall a good evening of fishing.
  15. Thanks I'll think about that.
  16. I realize this about the Minnesota state and fishing. That being said I'm contemplating selling my Shimano Clarus MF 7'0". I would be interested in a trade for a MH 7' for a similar value. The Clarus is brand new practically, owned it since July of this year. PM me with phone for pics. Like the rod, just decided that I perfer MH over medium action and being that I have 3 set ups they need to be versitale.
  17. Any info for fishing Minnetonka? Bass of course. Going out tomorrow.
  18. Geneoh-Johanna is difficult for first times, try looking for weedlines and hard bottoms. I had the opportunity to fish Johanna with a gentleman last Sunday and the key for us was a rocky flat. We were using green pumpkin jigs with zoom speed craws. Pitch-that's awesome man! I have yet to hook up on a frog this summer. Punch-that's not fun at all. Looking for info on Minnetonka, taking part of the Take A Vet fishing. Thanks to Punch for linking it.
  19. Very nice! Glad you could get out.
  20. Lol no 7 lbers.. The biggest bass I have encountered fishing is a 5 lb bass yesterday. If I do encounter a 7 lb bass while in Minnesota I'll be getting measurements for a mount lol!
  21. You should, it was worth the early morning. Just a simple green pumpkin jig dragged across the bottom with zoom speed craw trailer.
  22. Got out on Lake Johanna today thanks to another bass angler and we hammered them. I caught 2 2lb, 1 3lb, and 4 lb. The guy who took me out caught 2-3 in the 2 lb range, 2 3lber's, a couple 4s, and one 5 at the very end. Probably the best day of fishing I've had in a while. I'll try and get some pics of my bass up.
  23. Over the last couple weeks from the shore it has been nothing but dinks. Square bill cranks in silver shad color patterns for me. Red eyes seem to help. Steady retrieve followed by a pause then steady with increased speed helps. Can't get anything bigger than 8inches...
