Smallmouth Gear
Broke down and sold the medium light and bought a medium. Only catch is the medium is 2inches longer than the ML.

Smallmouth Gear
Thanks everyone, the information here has been great and it's defiantly helped in the past weeks with landing more fish lol! Still thinking going to a medium is better for me and my style of fishing.

Line is generally decent to good condition, I'm tying a double palymor now. Thinking of jumping to a medium for sure.

Smallmouth Gear
Thanks, I'll keep working on it and currently I think my drag point is pretty good. I'm always amazed how strong they are and how they use the current to their advantage.

Braid to leader knot?
Blood knot

Comparatively baitcasters are easier to bring in fish with, but medium is the way to go I think for smallies and tubes along with proper drag settings.

SV103 - How many do you own?
Cool, thanks Big-Bass.

all-purpose gear ratio
I'd say 7:1 simply better for top water and frogs, not saying you can't but 7:1 seems better suited.

Lets talk tube set ups
My current set-up is: Daiwa Cronos 7'1 MLFast Revros 2500 15# braid This works fine in lakes, but rivers with current and strong fish it's less than ideal. I lost a few to many fish this past week due to lack of hook set strength or drag set to tight. I'm investigating a casting setup and a MedXF for spinning.

SV103 - How many do you own?
Think that set-up would be good for tubes and small jigs?

SV103 - How many do you own?
How would this reel do with tubes in a river? I have a Ehler AGS rod MMH and trying to find a reel that cast lighter baits without loosing distance. Don't mean to hijack the thread.
- Frog rod for whopper plopper?

Smallmouth Gear
One I think a medium is better suited for my style of fishing and secondly my drag is probably set to tight. I mostly throw tubes or jigs on the river with the occasional swimbait, cranks, and top water.

@FryDog62- I do agree that a Medium Light is to light and hook penetration is shaky at best.

I lost a fish yesterday 10 feet from me, the line gave way. Possibly the line was weakened from rocks or like you suggested knot gave out. What's your suggestion for setting drag? Honestly, I'm thinking of going to a medium next year, maybe upping my reel to a 3000 size. Just some thoughts.

So it's more about getting the drag set right? Hmm, okay. Next outing, I'll play around. Dont think my rod is to light?

Smallmouth Gear
Hit the Mississippi pretty good today up here in the north country(Minnesota). Caught a couple smallies on mostly tubes as that's what they wanted. However I'm curious as to my current gear: Daiwa Revros 2500 w/ 15lb braid Daiwa Cronos 7'1" ML F Throwing 1/8oz tubes, but what was odd to me was how tough it was to land them. Not trying to horse them, but on the bigger smallie of the day it made a few quick runs which left me struggling to gain ground. Eventually the line broke, my guess the knot was weekended cause the rocks and me being lazy on not retying. All fishing was done from shore. Is my drag set to tight? Does it sound like I'm horsing the fish in? Looking for recommendations. If this should else where I do apologize. Thanks!

Broken Rod Return
So back in June I sent in my brand new Tatula Elite AGS rod for a broken guide. It's been gone for two months now and no word on when it will return. The rod was sent in via a local store here in Minnesota. Any idea how much longer it's gonna be or how quick is Daiwa on returning rod? Not here to complain, just wondering what's been the return length from past experiences. Thanks.

Minnesota Fishing Reports - 2017
I'll post pictures when I can, but found a neat little lake in Stillwater where I caught two bass on kietchs. This was Friday night and I've never fished this lake before. Saturday night fished Josephine and caught two. I'm not sure on size but the first was out of the pads on the west southwest then caught another on a whopper plopper. Weekend was a good time fishing.

need some help
You're on the right track, just listen to what others have said and have come before you. My own experience is this: Lews MG Tournament 6:4:1 -great reel, smooth casting however didn't like the body feel. Abu ProMax 7:1:1 -good beginner reel however plastic body Curado 200I 7:2:1 -great reel, smooth and long casts. Hard to beat for price point. Chronarch Ci4+ 7:6:1 -fantastic reel, the 150 is in my opinion ideal for spool size. Just not my thing or I'd a kept it. I've also had a couple 1Three reels but they are not in your price point. I fish mainly Daiwa now with the exception of a Curado 70 on my Med moderate cranking/top water rod. I've fallen for Daiwa after going through all these reels simply because how they feel in my hand, their performance on the water and fighting fish, and they are very dependable. I would seriously look at the Tatula line over any other aside from Shimano. You cannot go wrong with either reels. In my opinion these are the top two.

Tatula original vs. Cronos vs. Tatula Elite 7'6" spinning models
I asked Seth Feider who fishes Daiwa why he uses the Tatula Elite over the Cronos, better blank and that's where I found out it has the Steez blank. I have 1 Tatula Elite AGS rod, Ehrler finesse and four Cronos, 7'1MH, 7'3 MH, 7'6 H, and 7'1 ML spinning. They are great rods, only issues with the Cronos is no bait keepers so I added the Fuji EZ keepers.
