  1. im with cart. ive got the 70 lb thrust maxxum (24v)on my new stratos. very nice trolling motor. im not a fan of motor guide. if im not mistaken they are owned by Merc and im not a fan of theirs either. make sure you check out the thrust/speed control on them if you get a new one. mine has a little knob that goes from 20 all the way to 100 in 10 count intervals. i think some of the new ones have a clicker type knob with only 5 different positions which makes it harder to control your thrust. good luck.
  2. yeah you are probably right TD. i loaded the boat on the trailer while my dad hooked the winch strap on. he said when i loaded the boat the bow eye was all the way up to the bumper so he said he must not have locked in the winch lock properly, which allowed it slide back about 3 and a half inches. There is a good ramp about 2 miles from my house so i will run it over there before i hit the road for any long period of time. No big deal i guess. just part of learning all the new stuff about the boat. im sure in a month or two it will be like riding a bike!!
  3. congrats!! chalk another one up for the stratos owners!!
  4. So, another virgin boat owner question. Last sunday my dad and i loaded the boat after taking it out for a while. my dad is familiar with boats but not experienced with them so anyway we load the boat, i look over everything and make sure everything is tied down and we head down the road for the house. All the way home, i notice a bad bounce/hop in the truck that was not there before. Being a first time new boat owner i thought i was just over thinking things so i didnt worry about it. Well tonight i had some time so i went out to look everything over and i discovered the problem!! When we loaded the boat i did not get the bow eye all the way up to the v bumper, therefore not allowing the boat to be secured tightly to the bumper. There is about an inch or so of play. Not much but not something i want to let go on forever. my question is, can i fix this problem in my garage or do i need to float the boat off the bunks in order to tighten the boat down? i tried messing with it a little bit earlier with no luck. Should i try wetting the bunks with a hose and lowering the tongue all the way down to help gravity pull the boat to the bumper? Let me know what you think. Thanks guys!! :-/
  5. ask your delaer if he will let you put the boat at his place on consignment?? Maybe he will agree not to take a fee since you are buying from him already, and your boat being there will help pull traffic to his dealership. Just and idea!!
  6. my opinion is spend 20 extra dollars, thats not too bad, right, and get the symetre reel. You can stick with shimano but still upgrade a little!
  7. thanks for the info redline. im pretty sure my vent line is clear. I just think its a matter of fueling slowly to let the gas slowly push out the air that is in the tank. i'll let you know if i find out anymore info.
  8. thanks for the tips guys. it aint the indy 500 cart, but it is my first boat and that was my first official time taking it out. So...its close!!
  9. yeah, i ended up filling it up real slow. I'll just keep working with it until i can figure out a way for it to work. thanks! bassin man, i dont have a stuck or broken fuel gauge. im curious though, how would this cause the gas to shoot out of the fill hole?
  10. alright, my first virgin boat owner question. Went to put gas in the boat on Sunday for the first time. Shoved the nozzle in and started pumpin' away. About 10 seconds later, the side of my new nicely waxed shiny boat and my feet had 87 octane all over them. what did i do wrong and what should i do NEXT time?? Thanks folks!! :'( ;D
  11. if you are looking at kayaks, i would recommend the hobie outback hank parker edition. Its pricy but one hell of a yak!!
  12. i currently use power pro on my spinnerbait rig and my flipping/pitching rig. I like the strength of the braid for flippin heavy matts of grass and lily pads. however, i will be switching my spinnerbait rig to either yozuri hybrid, which is on all other rigs, or to a pure fluorocarbon line.
  13. again for the 200DHSV. For me personally, i can slow down the retrieve of a 7 to 1 ratio reel, i cant speed up a 5 to 3 or 6 to 3 ratio reel. thats just me. I have 3 of the 200dhsv's and i love them. they are a larger reel but i like the leverage it gives me. Gives me something to hold on to!!
  14. Try www.nada.com for used boat prices. The info you fill out is very detailed but will give you a good price starting point plus it will give you a price for good condition and excellent condition. let me know if you need help.
  15. from what my dealer showed me i would only go with Hambys. Hamby's is a piece of fiberglass that is in someway attached to your keel. I dont know if it is a "do it yourselfer" item or not. I will have one on my new rig very soon!!
  16. ditto on the trailer brake response. I dont unplug or my trailer wont go!!
  17. Fully loaded i am guessing around 72 or 73 mph. bare boned with me and the sales manager we had the speedo bouncing off the bumper just past 80. So i figure thats atleast 75 on GPS. Never the less, its plenty for me, especially being my first boat. But i feel like i did good. I feel like i got what i paid for. Corky, ill send you an email!!
  18. wow, didnt realize you would be able to see the food in my teeth!! ;D
  19. ok, here are the pics!! Well, what do you think?
  20. Yep, i did it!! I signed for my new rig today. Its a 2006 Stratos 294 Pro XL witha 200 HO ETEC!! I am crazy excited!! I cant wait to get it on the water. I will be picking it up next sunday! I also took some pics for you all to check out. Enjoy!! give me a minute on the pics!
  21. my opinion is lowrance. The new 522c is 650 or 700 dollars and then you can get the 102c for the bow and its about 400 i believe. Then you still have a couple hundred for more fishing stuff!!
  22. thats great looking!! You should send some pics to a jon boat company. If all jon boats looked like that they would probably sell a ton more of them!!
  23. I have to go with topwater. Not that it catches the most fish for me but when i do hook one on top my adrenaline gets going, and makes me confident i can continue to hook up!
