What do you consider small? For me it's the LC Pointer 65mm which is just a fish catching machine. Allen

Question for the Veterans on here receiving VA disability
Trying to find one of the people who help you with VA claims for disability. Someone mentioned there are some sort of Reps that help with this? Injured my back due to a hard parachute landing in the Army. Pain and mobility problems are just getting worse with age. I tried filling on the claims myself several times but they get denied. My doctor is recommending physical therapy several times a week for a couple months at least. Even with my insurance the costs are going to be like $300 a week which I cannot afford. Allen

Hall of Fame
What amazed me was the alligator snapping turtle they had! That thing must of been 150LBs? The closeout shop is where you need to go. There were so many deals there I would be broke if I lived closer. Allen

what bait would your throw into a spillway beneath a dam?
Generally a creature bait, cast it as far in and let the current do the work. If fishing for SM use a tube. Allen

Bass catching challenge.
I live about 5 miles south of the Mason-Dixon line now. When I say Bear Hair its black bear hair which acts differently in water than bucktail. I have been trying to find some brown bear hair with no luck the past couple of years. Allen

Barlows list the wire diameter for hooks if you are looking to compare. If you want the strongest small hook get some Mustad 32833 steelhead hooks. Allen

Show Off Your Work!
For the lions cut jigs I recommend 44 strands, Full length jigs 55 or 66 strands works better. Skirt tabs have 22 strands if you don't know for reference. Allen

Is there a Mustad hook that can be swapped with Owner 5313
Use this one a lot and started to make hair jigs with it. Allen

How many states have you fished and what is your opinion of them?
Talking to a buddy about having visited 47 states got me thinking. How many states have I fished and what do I think about the bass fishing? So I have lived in Maryland most of my life but have traveled the world and most states courtesy of the US Army. So below I will list the states I have fished and what I think of them. Maryland= Been fishing here since I was 4 years old, some places are better than others but the places you can go couldn't be more different, Deep Creek Lake for example is deep as the name implies and is crystal clear until the boat traffic kicks up. Now the Lower Potomac is shallow, muddy, and tidal which is a completely different animal. You have to be a really versatile fisherman if you want to compete in this state as a bass angler. Virginia and West Virginia= a lot like Maryland just with bigger SM from the Shanandoah river. Georgia= Fished there a couple times while stationed in Augusta and it was great just didn't have the time to fish as I wanted. New York= Fished 2 lakes while I was there for 3 weeks and while I caught some bass it was a pickerel fest. Washington State= I really wish I would have fished more in the 4 years I was there. Most of my fishing was for trout and I kick myself in the butt for not exploring the bass fishing. Missouri= I spent 17 weeks here for Officer Basic Course and honestly there is nothing to do at Fort Leonard Wood besides fish and drink. Being away from the family and nothing else to do I spent about 5 days a week just fishing. In this time my bass fishing skills improved more than anytime in the past 25 years. What I found is you couldn't throw a rock without hitting a lake or pond full of bass. Missouri is a bass fishermans Mecca as I have never seen a place with so many places to fish. In my time there I learned to fish jigs, carolina rig, floating worm, along with just getting an overall confidence in many baits I rarely ever used. When I left I had 6 of the 10 biggest bass caught on base for the year just not number 1 by 4ozs. Jamacia= I won a fishing competition in Jamacia at the resort my wife and I were staying at. They had about a 2 acre pond and held a fishing competition once a week. Not sure what the fish were but they looked like what we call Goggle-eyes? Didn't plan on entering until another guy told me not to because he was going to win. My wife told me to kick his ass that she wanted the trophy. Can't argue with the wife so I entered and won with like I think 67 fish caught in an hour? The guy that said he was going to win caught about 20? Allen

Smallmouth Weird Behavior
SM, LM, and Spots while all being bass act differently IMO. SM around here in deep clear lakes act like what you were seeing, what we call wolf packs. One thing I can recommend is if you are slowly working a bait and they follow but won't hit make a drastic movement. I have watched them ignore a bait 12" in front of them hovering but when I jerk it up really quick multiple fish will attack. Same with jerkbaits. I can't count the number of times I have been reeling in one fish when another comes up and tries to steal the bait away? Once I had 3 SM hooked on a LC Slender Pointer 112MR for this reason. Now fishing for SM in a river system is a whole different animal but I doubt you have any rivers in Texas with them in. Allen

Bass catching challenge.
So in December of last year I got into a bass fishing challenge. It boils down to being able to catch a bass every month of the year for 2023. So far I am 10 for 10 this year and think I can make it. Weather is turning cold quickly but November should not be a problem. December I may have to break out the bear hair jigs again but I think I can make it happen. The latest I have ever caught a bass was December 26th and the earliest was January 1st. February is the hardest month IMO but this year was warmer than usual which helped. Now I just need to hit up some friends to tie me some more bear hair jigs as I lost most of my stash back in January/February. Allen

Why is this color hard to find?
Just have someone custom pour you some. The crayfish in one of my local fisheries were a color I could not find in commercial baits. Had some made in the color I needed, and they worked great. Allen
