  1. What are people's thoughts on this reel? Does it live up to the hype? Worth the $230 price point? Its fast, but what are the short-comings? Thanks!
  2. It's a pain in the Ass but necessary part of the game. We all (I assume) use different stuff different places/season/weather/clarity etc. I find myself re-tooling at least 30 min before each trip out.
  3. Senkos mixed in the bag? Some Colors bleed, reds particularly bad. Learned that the hard way.
  4. 10ft or so. Mostly a mix straight drops and steep banks. On banks I can usually find a place to access and just pull the fish over. Drops, not so much. The bucket dea is good. Might try the umbrella nets upsmallie mentioned. thx!
  5. I'm in same [lack of] boat. I TRY and sort by type and color (1 light and 1 dark finesse, 1 crank/swim/jerk, spoon spiners/top water, and terminal T,) best recomendation is get a large single strap sling bag. Full range of motion to cast on the move.
  6. With the senko do you mean wacky or Texas with 1/32 oz? they were hammering my split shot tube rig. 4 good fish in a row of 4 casts The other day also. Just droping em right down the side of a point or fliping 5-10 yards out at a 45deg angle. Let fall hop back repeat. (Love these places!) my question is about Landing them. A regular net doesn't even reach the water in some places. I was thinking a pier dropper net type basket would be good. Might make one from just cutting to net off an old lander and tying a 3way rope to it.
  7. I will definitely update you. A few amazon reviews were raving about it as their new fav rod. On YouTube there's a good review on the xF mh version. Originally I was leaning towards that until I read the specs and a few posts hyping the m. ...I figure with a new warranty if it doesn't perform or handle what the rating is I can exchange it. And if it does.... win win.
  8. Hey all! Help me out if you can. How do you land a big Bass from a steep bank or overhang, other than pulling her in by the hook? (Risk lossing and/or harming the fish too high). Is pole netting the only option? I'm thinking of making a dropper net on a rope for the long landings, maybe a bucket with the bottom cut off and net attached. Anyone dealt with this issue? thank!
  9. That's exactly what I do Joe. still pulling em 10 ft up a cliff by the hook, no good... Should I be starting a new thread? Figured same/similar subject..
  10. Thanks for all the input guys. It's a lot to consider. I fish all types of lures other than big swimbaits. Some of the places I go are deep quarries, others are mostly 6-8 ft mud bottom lakes and ponds. I have to admit to getting carried away... I ordered another tatula baitcaster the gold, medium 6'10 MxB with the "flex tip" (rated like 3/32 to 1oz which blows my mind) and paired with the new tatula 8:1:1 SV TW reels of the same weight rating. They say it's a great combo for finesse and power fishing I expect. And I wanted to sort of force myself to master baitcasting. I don't want to get to carried away (5-6 rods at most) so I'm always going for something with range of applications. I may take a look at the 6'11 ml tatula mentioned as well. Sounds perfect for exclusive finessing. What I have now covers most applications I think. The *** ml actually is quite stout, handles cranks and poppers nicely. And the 7'2 mhr tatula Im hoping is a good in between sort of rod for most applications other than finesse...,strong but forgiving. I guess the real gap now is Heavy side for serious cranking, punching and frogging.
  11. Follow up question..,How do you land a big Bass from a steep bank or overhang? Is netting the only option? I'm thinking of making a dropper net on a rope for the long drops. Anyone dealt with this issue? thanks!
  12. Hey brother tail chasers! Opinion needed... I like to carry three rods. I float (pontoon boat) and bank fish mainly for LM/SM bass (occasionally trout). I'd describe my style on the finess end, but not exclusively. I recently upgrade from cheap old spinning combos, to quality stuff (Huge improvements): 1st a dai-wa 7'1' spinning (fate chrome, ML fast which I love... it's light but stout and really more a medium action) matched to an exceler 2000 reel. 2nd, a 7'2" tat-ula baitcaster (casting model, MHR) paired to a 8:1:1 tat CT reel...still getting used to baitcasting. I like the feel and extra distance (tho was expecting more...surely my technique will improve), but to me they (baitcasters) still do not have that perfect feel/balance of good spinners. The great accuracy and strength is what's most sets them apart. Im now looking for the perfect 3rd one to tip the trifecta. So, the Question: what rod/reel to choose?? Spin or cast, I haven't decided. Power/action/Strength, also not sure. As mentioned , the Fate ML is really a medium, so I could go to a light 13-fishing spin rod (love the feel!). Also am thinking of another tatula, the 6'10" MHxF...Good reviews and the shorter length is nice/more manageable from my little float tube. I am very open to all other options however! Even perhaps a custom rod..(?) What whould you you get to balance the pair? Please share any and all opinions appreciated! Thanks all!!
  13. Absolutely. Only use for leaders is protect the knot/line fraying on rocks.
  14. Seems neat, at first. But think about it. Will you feel the fish biting? No....the elastic will absorb a bite and you'll loose most fish. Plus casting would be somewhere from strange to impossible. But hey, give it a try if you like...save money and use 1/32in paracord. Strong stuff. 15. Hey Man that sounds interesting but I'm a little confused. You use a tungsten bullet weight and put stainless steel above it? ...like ahead I was it on the line. Wouldn't it make more sense to put it on below the bullet right over the hook? is that what you meant. Thanks!
