I am going to go ahead and close this poll. Looks like I am a minority. It makes me think though. Roughly two thirds of the people whom responded fish for bedders, hmmmmm. I guess I am a real minority in this forum , lets see, I don't fish for bedders, I don't keep any bass and won't let anyone in my boat keep any as well. I don't like braid or flourocarbon, I like round Abu Garcia 5601 reels, I only use a 6'6" MH rod for most, not all, but, most of my flipping, etc, etc. Well that ought to be enough kindling to fuel a fire,lol. Have a great year all, no matter how you chose to fish and thanks for keeping it civil.

Yes Mud, that was a pretty sweet race. I was surprised. I love to see a horse come from the back of the field in a race so important and win. I had my money on Home Spun as he is a solid horse for sure but hey, you know horse racing. I would like to see a Triple Crown Winner before I die. There have been some great horses the last few years. Breeding is bringing out the elite in this sport. The last few years has brought us Barbaro and Smarty Jones to name a few so we have a good chance of a TC winner within the next few years. I love them horses !!!

Hey Avid, I love my Curado for 10 and 12 pound test but, anything else as in 14 and up I use my Abu Garcia 5601 C3 or C4's. As everyone said, line capacity is one reason but, at least for me, Big swimbaits, flippin and pitchin or for just a all around big fish reel they feel better to me. They are a great solid dependable reel. Its hard to explain but, the round reels are not all fancy with a lot of bells and whistles, they are just work horses. Plus, its a little bit of nostalgia for me I guess as well. I love the round reels.

You are right they are rockin. We went the other day and had 119. Most were pretty good ones anywhere from 14-20 inches to boot. Green pumpkin tubes and 1/2oz white spinnerbaits were the ticket the other day. Spinnerbaits were the main bait all day it seemed. It gets like that on the Susquehanna at times. The fish were at the tops and right along the edge of the breaks just waiting to ambush anything it seemed. My buddy also had a few on a Senko. I did not let up very much on the SB. If it isn't broke, don't fix it.

Hang in there Ceph. Its just your turn,lol. I know how you feel. It seems like the world is taking a big crap on you sometimes. Last month was my turn. I had to replace the well pump and thermal box ( 1,100 ), got news I needed new field drains in the septic system ( 1,800 ), Radiator took a crap in the van ( 200.00 ) and my girlfriend is moving back to Austria. She is homesick as heck. I don't blame her, I wish her well, but, I sure will miss looking at the fox running around the house in her undies,lol. I am 50, she is 27, need I say more? :'( ;D

Dude, if I see someone keep some bass and they are going to eat them, I say have at it. That does not bother me at all. If someone catches the fish of his or hers life time and wants to skin mount it, I say go for it, but, the pictures you have posted with that guy and those big dead fish turn my stomach. I would put those pics in plain view in every local marina, publication and convey what that guy did to every swinging di** I knew. That dude is a bottom feeder in my eyes. :-?

Nice Tuna LBH. I go 4 or 5 times a year with a friends son whom is a airline pilot and he takes us off the coast of Ocean City Maryland out to the Canyon. I remember my first few tuna. We were getting small ones between 90 and 125 lbs and after the first few, I was wore out. I couldn't move my arms anymore,lol. Its like hooking a Volkswagen at 50mph I told them. We also get the occasional Mako Shark which is cool because those babies can jump like a acrobat. Thanks for the pic, it is cool.

I am going to lock this post Sunday evening. I wanted to get the weekend crowds yes or no in the poll. So far, it looks like a few of us are a minority. Please guys and gals. Lets not send in any more opinions and statements. I did not want this to be a shouting match or anything. I just wanted a percentage mostly out of curiosity. I think talking about this subject would be kicking a dead horse. Everyone has a point of view and I guess there is no right or wrong. We just all see things differently.

I really like them in the ultra clear upland lakes around here in Western Maryland rigged Wacky around the boat docks. They are producers. Also, I like them on a Mojo Rig. I use #8 test, peg a Mojo sinker anywhere from 12-18 inches up the line and rig the centipede on a 2/0 hook. I mostly use a green pumpkin color. These are great baits for green and brown bass.

GO TO COLLEGE. I returned and finished at 45 years old and my first year back was a struggle because I had been out so long. Go while everything is still fresh in your mind and your mind is in a learning mode. I can almost promise you that if you don't do it now, you might not ever go. You are young and it is only 4-6 years to finish depending if you want a Bachelors or Masters degree. Don't be like me paying a mortgage and a college loan at 50. Now is the time, trust me.

I pull the boat with 3/4 ton Chevy Conversion van with a 350. Its not pretty. Gas around here, as of yesterday, was 2.99pg. I was on a little below a 1/4 of a tank and it took 47.00 to fill her up. I live 25 miles from town. Yes, I am a real country boy, and a gas poor one,lol. If you are ever around here, I am the guy sitting on the porch swing ( we call them Davenports ) playing the banjo with the big ears and big grin,lol :'( P.S.- Does anyone else call a porch swing a Davenport? or is it just a Western Maryland thing?

Opp's RW, my mistake. I reread your post and yes, you do not fish for bedders. Sorry about that. The more I think about it, I don't think I ever will either. I think after all this years, I just would not feel right about it. Thats just me though. I do see that so far in my post it looks like the ones who do are way more than I had anticipated. It looks like a Bush popularity contest percentage. Whoops, sorry, I know, no political post,lol.

That is kind of what I was researching RW. I mean, I want to do the right thing, ya know? I was regrouping on my opinion of this bed fishing. I have to admit, when I used to do it back in the late eighty's it was fun. I was just trying to be responsible and do the right thing. I am not a follow the crowd kind of guy, as I am pretty opinionated , maybe sometimes too much. I just wanted to see if other guys, or at least get a percentage of guys were fishing for bedding bass. I have researched fishing for bedders and have gotten so many different idea's, opinions, and studies that contradict each other I am at a stand off in my view so far. Its like this, if I am sitting home or fishing on a lake for 2-3lb fish and a guy is up lake catching 5-6lber's then I don't understand, ya know. Maybe I am talking myself into it but, I will make that decision using reason. Bottom line, I just want to do what is best for the fish, and I will. You said you fished for bedders in Texas and I don't blame you. If you take the time and spend the money, I say, have at it. I said in a earlier post, if I am on a trip for a few days, and it is bedding time, I would absolutely fish for them. If I am in a tourney for big bucks?, you betcha. My poll was for the weekend guy.
