  1. Yes, I have seen some spinning rods that came close to what I wanted. The reason I settled on these criteria for a smallie spinning rod is because a few years ago Dicks had some Pinnacle Tri-Wings on sale so I bought two just to try them. Both were six foot and met the criteria I had described. Even though they were inexpensive rods , they were sweet for smallies, other than being a 6' rod. I like a 6'6" or 7' rod. They still make them under the name of SPX3's , I think. The 6'6" does not have the same criteria. I am going to buy some blanks if I can find them and build a few if I ever get some time. Seems I have none nowadays. If anyone was looking for a inexpensive ( 60.00 ) smallmouth rod that is 6', I would highly recommend them. www.silstar.com
  2. Burley... ;D ;D ;D
  3. Have you ever hooked any Brown Trout in there Burley?

Sounds like you found yourself a little piece of Shangrala there Avid. There is a lot to be said for keeping it simple and slowing down. As far as the woman in the mini bikini, as Curley of the Three Stooges once said " knaaa, knaaa, knaaa !!! ".
  5. He sure is a cute little Muddy Mud Skipper, congrats.
  6. Well spoken Glenn. You are a alright guy in my book. ... and a hearty cheers to all the Dads out there as well ---
  7. I am not going to get into a debate here. I am with Munkin on this. I do not fish for bass on their beds. Pull a female off the bed and watch the bluegill have feast. What fun is it shooting fish in a barrel? Sorry if I offend anyone on this subject, its just my opinion, thats all.
  8. I am right with you on line size RW. For reaction baits you can get away with a little heavier line but, in my experience for smallies---when the water is fairly clear---you better be using #8 test or below. I have proven it a million times with people that fish with me using #12-#14 test. In the rivers its not just the issue of being line shy ( which is something I am not sure about ) but, its the waters current. A smaller diameter affords your line less resistance against the flow and will keep your bait in the current breaks without all of that line bag. I use #8 test 99% of the time. For these small streams I would say the two best baits would be either a 3 1/2" tube or a 4" grub with maybe a small crank thrown in.
  9. She must be a good woman Muddy. I am glad for you. Guys our age and a 20 year old girl would not work anyway. We would be in the ICU !!!,LOL. ;D ;D
  10. I just bought one last week. I have not fished with it yet but, I stuck it on a med action Extreme rod I had laying around and its pretty sweet. I think I am going to like it a lot.
  11. Thats funny, I don't care who you are, ;D ;D ;D
  12. If you could find a 20 year old girl with raven black hair, a pair of aces and a bubble butt whom loved fishing, it wouldn't be so bad !!!
  13. Fast is good. Most of mine are fast. I just like the feel of the Xtra fast on the hook set, thats all.
  14. There are a lot of good rods out there for pitchin and flippin. Personally I use a Team All Star 6' 10" MH. I use this rod and 20lb test on a Abu Garcia C3. It works great.
  15. I won't go into brands, thats up to you. I have not found the perfect smallie rod yet, close, but no cigar. My perfect smallie rod, if I ever get time to put one together is --- Lure wt : 1/8-1/2 Line: #8-#15 test rating Medium with a Xtra fast action 6' 6"
  16. I have a friend that when he drinks too much wine, he gets full of crap. So its not only the water, lol. I have found that I balance my intake of water and Yuenglings beer nicely. Also, if you are underage just stick with the water my friend.
  17. Spinning reel + Stradic = satisfied customer.
  18. RW and Ghoti put you on the right track. Listen to them. As far as the Cobra X Tex- I bought some of this stuff for flippin because of the hype on how good it was. It was probably the worst line I have ever experimented with.
  19. Well, we picked up my buddies boat from the dealer yesterday and he found the problem. It would have been the last thing I would have thought about. They had a 115 jet housing bolted to a 90/65 motor. Evidently the tube that houses the impeller is bigger and let water bypass it. They said it came that way from the factory. It all sounds a little fishy to me but, it works now. We had it on the river and it runs fine. Thanks for the replies.
  20. I have caught fish with them here in Maryland but, I would just as soon use a spinnerbait.
  21. Nice fish fishchris. I love them 5+ smallies. I just cannot believe that a lake in California has smallies like that. What a treat to live near that place. I am with RW. If I fished that lake you probably wouldn't see any largemouth tackle in my boat. I would have to spend all my time on the smallies. What a awesome place. California girls, big smallmouth, nice weather, what the he** am I doing here, lol. Send us more pics over the next year of those great smallies. I would love to see a ten come out of that place. I would bet they are there. Good luck.
  22. I have caught spring smallies with big fat bellies like that. I still say its a legit fish. In the river they are almost always a brown color but, in the local gin clear lakes I have caught them that have more of a green color. I still think its a hybrid though. A cross between a spot and a smallie. Like I said, any way you slice or dice it you cannot take it away that it is a great fish !!! IMO
  23. A missing plug wire crossed my mind so we checked the wires, they were fine. The motor is at the right height as well. I am going to make him a plate like I have on mine to help push the water to the intake. Mine used to cavitate in rough water until I did this. His is like it should be, the top of the boot is 1/4" above the bottom of the boat while holding a straight edge along it. I am curious to what the problem is as well. I will keep you posted.
  24. Forget the can. Go to your dealer and ask for a set of muffs to hook up to your garden hose. Make sure she is spitting water. You can put it in gear, just don't rev it to high. They do it at the local ranger dealer all the time. Also, I have a jet which has a screw in muff for this purpose. A tank is used at the dealer for checking issues under a load.
