Abu Garcia Revo?
Thanks loads for the info guys. It sounds like a unanimous yes on these reels. Do I really need a new reel or two? No. Will I buy them anyway? Why certainly, lol.

Abu Garcia Revo?
I am sitting here at work and was taking a break looking into a couple of new reels. I like AG and saw that there were a couple of different models for the Revo. Any of you gentleman had any experiance with them and which one seems to be the best ? Thanks.

Ice out and Silver Buddys
I agree RW. I don't know whom named that bait the gay blade for Cordell but, I would take him off of the list of guys whom give names to their baits. I would say he probably has a hot pink bass boat and his life jacket looks like a feather bowa. ;D ;D ;D

spinnerbait rod?
My personal favorite spinnerbait rod is a rod I use for jigs and worms as well. It is a 6' 10" Team All Star rod in MH. For me its the perfect spinnerbait rod. Like everyone said, its all in personal preference.

Where's Nicky2Times?
Hey Muddy, didn't I read not too long ago that LBH's wife was away and that he was lonely? Now I am reading about his 20 minute breaks at home and girls named Bubbles, Mercedes and Cinnamon. Are we all going to get together and go to LBH's viewing and funeral after his wife gets home and gets wind of his misbehaving ? :o ;D ;D

Smallmouth Help Requested...
Listen to slingingsouthpaw. He has put you on the right track. Also, I am not sure how muddy this water is but, the muddy water will push them a little further toward the bank. Current, if you can find any is critical. Use white flukes, tubes in green pumpkin/red flake with a 1/8 or 1/4 jighead in 3 1/2". My best all around color, at least for here, is a dark melon/purple flake. Also, 5" grubs in the bluegill color are great. Zara Spooks, Spitn Images, are great in the early morning and late evening. Always have a white spinnerbait ready for these smallies as well.

Bottom bumping Silver Buddys
RW, I had a thread on Silver Buddy's in the Fishing Tackle thread. Triton spoke of Bill in there. He was a great fisherman. I agree that Silver Buddy's can be tough to fish around a rocky bottom. Goodness knows I have lost my share. I rarely use them in the river for this reason. I do like them at a local smallie lake here though. I pretty much fish them on a free fall and then yo-yo them back to the boat and use a snap of the wrist presentation as well. I also burn them over the grass like a trap. I have caught some good fish on this bait.

Why I really enjoy this place
I find myself coming to this forum everyday. Even at work I check on whats going on from time to time. Even a couple of the Doctors read some of it while I am on. I do feel like I know some of the guys here in a way. I wanted to write about a recent experience I had here. I got into a small disagreement recently with a member and he PM'ed me. He said he wanted to straighten our differences out, not on the thread, but, between just him and I, without starting a furor. We did, and it was constructive arguing. I thought that it was a class act the way this guy handled our small disagreement. We ended up writing in a civil manner and left, I feel, as friends. Good stuff. Glenn and the mods usually handle some of our heated subjects in a tactful way as well. They let us make our points until it gets d**n near into fisty cuffs and then they step in,lol. Great job guys. P.S.- Hey Fourbizzle, you suck up !!! ;D ;D ;D

Ice out and Silver Buddys
I appreciate your sharing of the info. Sounds like Bill was a wonderful friend. He was a great fisherman and held a wealth of knowledge only time and experience can give you. I was a fan of his, as well as, his tactics. Have a good year Triton21 and I hope your rods stay bent. Again, thanks.

Help
If I were you and you wanted to step up a notch and keep it under two hundred bucks I would look at the BPS combos. A extreme rod and a Shimano or Pflueger or whatever your choice would be well within your price range and allow you a few more bucks to boot, to feed the bait monkey.

Gambler Swimming Jig
I never tried them. My fishing buddie just gave me two dozen jigs that he ties for swimming. He has a small blade on them just like the one that is on the Chatterbait type bait. Pretty nice of him, I must say. I am looking forward to using them.

berkley Big game worshiper
I like Big Game as well but, like CATT I don't use it for flippin. I use Stren Dura Tough. It has worked well for me.

Is there a limit to cost and tech of rods & reels?
Thanks for the input guys. I think I will put a ceiling on my rod and reel setup of $500.00 tops. I know, I know, never say never, lol.

My Pet Peeve: Breaking Your Line
Good post RW. Like ReelMech said " back to a little old school training ". Use the proper line and rod for the conditions, check your line after every fish, and set your drag, especially on spinning reels. Personally, on big smallies, I have always back reeled them, especially when you get them close to the boat, they like to put up a little scuffle. Back reeling takes practice. I have done it for years on big smallies and spinning reels. Just practice with smaller fish like 13-15 inches. Good luck.

Ice out and Silver Buddys
Pretty good stuff Triton21. The opportunity to fish with Billy Westmoreland on Dale Hollow had to be a great learning experience as well as being a lot of fun. Care to share anything Bill shared with you on using a Silver Buddy? I like to throw them on steep points and creek channels, free fall them and then either yo-yo them back to the boat or just snap my wrist jig style.

JWC Report with PICS...FINALLY!
Fantastic pics Ben. I know I am not only speaking for myself in saying how proud we are to have you and the others represent Maryland in such a stand up way. What a boat load of memories, as well as, a learning experience you will never forget. Again, great job!

Ice out and Silver Buddys
I always leave myself open on my choice of tactics on prespawn fish. I am talking about the early season after the ice out. You northern guys know what I am talking about. One of my long time favorites and great producers for this early season is a Silver Buddie on the deep points and creek channels on the main lake. Anyone else like the Silver Buddy's this time of year?

Warrior Boron Rods
A friend of my stopped by last week and showed me a couple of Warrior Boron rods he purchased in Baltimore. They seemed pretty sweet to me. Sweet enough that I am going to look into purchasing one to see if I like it. Have any of you tried these rods? Suggestions/Opinions would be appreciated. I am wondering how they would hold up. I have a ridiculous unbreakable habit with a baitcasting rod with a jig on the other end. When I set the hook, I practically snap the rod in two, lol. Here is one link I found about Warrior Rods that was positive---www.bassnedge.com/products/warrior_rods.htm
