  1. Welcome. Six days a week on the water and I would be willing to bet you can teach us a few things. Glad to have you here, its a great venue.
  2. Good stuff LBH. I think it is commendable that you donate all that time to the kids, a well deserved Kudos to you.
  3. Just how many" Little Muddies " do you have running around out there Muddy?, ;D P.S.- I am glad you got to spend some time with your daughter, thats a good thing.
  4. You southern guys don't realize how amazing it is to us northern boys that you fish the canals and lakes down there with those animals swimming around. I have never fished in Florida and if I ever do and a 13' gator swims toward my boat I am going to start that baby up and not slow down until I get back to the ramp !!! Any critter that is big enough to lug a deer around in its mouth needs to stay about two zip codes away from me !!!
  5. I thought everyone would find this interesting. The administration is expected to ask Congress early next month for more money for Iraq and Afghanistan for 2007, including more than $5 billion in additional Pentagon assistance for Karzai's security forces. However, the White House's Office of Management and Budget halved a State Department request for just over $1 billion, which was to target Pakistan's secular educational system and aid programs in the tribal areas. Both efforts were intended to reduce the influence of Islamic militants, a U.S. official said. Defense Secretary Robert Gates is examining requests for more U.S. troops, but he's unlikely to do more than extend the tours of units that are already in Afghanistan because of the demand for more forces for Iraq. The United States is pressing NATO members and other allies to contribute more peacekeepers, helicopters, transport planes and other equipment to the 32,000-strong NATO-led force in Afghanistan. The United States has some 12,000 troops in that force, and it maintains a separate counter-insurgency contingent of some 9,000 soldiers. But key International Security Assistance Force members, including Germany and Italy, continue to resist U.S. demands to loosen restrictions - known as caveats - on the use of their troops in combat operations. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice was expected to press for relaxing the caveats and to ask U.S. allies for more troops and equipment at a special NATO foreign ministers conference on Afghanistan in Brussels, Belgium, on Friday. Representatives from Australia and Japan also will attend. While the United States isn't likely to contribute more soldiers, it hopes to announce a major increase in assistance for Afghanistan, the senior State Department official said. He also said the United States was pressing Pakistan to do more to stop cross-border infiltration.
  6. I did see on CNN the other day while watching some Senate hearings that the US Administration was prepared and expected to lose an American city in the next 5 years to terrorists. Basschaser, I am shocked. I was not aware that the above statements were made. You sparked my interest. How are they prepared to lose city?, and when did they come to this conclusion? Also, they expected to lose a American city? I do not understand why these two statements are not plastered all over the media. Considering these statements we are in much deeper trouble than I ever imagined. Thanks for the heads up. This is unbelievable to me. Is everyone as floored as I am?
  7. I have and love all of these reels. I use each of them for different applications. Shimano Stradic's and Curado's. Abu Garcia's in 4600, and 5600.
  8. , nevermind.
  9. Can I ask you a honest question Mr. Baugher? How did you come to the conclusion of your specific percentage values in each category?
  10. Listen to Powerman970. I think everyone in here would agree on his opinion on this one. If your lake is controlled by a power plant, you have half the battle won. Once you can figure out their release schedule, you are home free, or at least it will narrow the places to fish immensely. Ask RW about this phenomenon. I think he fishes a dam release situation.
  11. If there is no ice on the water and you can stand the cold you can start now. I would say main lake points would be a good start as well as sharp drop offs for suspending fish in deeper water. Fish slow and meticulous, the window is a lot smaller this time of year. Good luck.
  12. After listening to all the rhetoric and speculations the last few months on Iran's involvement in Iraq, I kind of shrugged it all off as posturing from both sides. Now, I am not quite sure. I have a feeling that it is going to come done to just such a conflict, even though it might be another nose to nose threatening match and then everyone stands down. Do you feel it is a lot of push and shove or do you feel there is a possibility of a real conflict. If so, is it justifiable?
  13. Wow bugman, I have to give you a A+ for doing a great job on your homework. It annoys me that some of the cat. don't include line recovery in their advertising. Two things that are important to me---reel purchase****line recovery, rod purchase****action of rod as in moderate, fast or extra fast. I think these two specifics should always be included.
  14. Good luck on your surgery and your recovery. I cannot express enough to always get a second opinion when considering surgery involving your vertebrae, and maybe even a third opinion. Spinal fusion should be a last resort effort to solve a back problem. Ruptured or herniated disc problem solving has come a long way over the past 20 years and with physical therapy and adapting your mechanics to fit a post surgery lifestyle you can lead a perfectly normal life with only some changes. Stick with your physical therapy until the end. It will help you adapt, inform you and help to strengthen the muscles in your back.
  15. Try some Silver Thread AN 40 copolymer in #8 test. It will be fine for the setup you are using.
  16. If you are going below #10 test, as in #6 or #8 go with a spinning reel.
  17. You start it and I will sign it. I think its a great idea Papa.
  18. I wonder how they decided on the name " Hellbender "? I grew up catching Hellbenders on the river where I lived, or at least it was within bicycle distance. I think these creatures are rare now and in our MD fishing handbook they are to be returned if you catch them.
  19. I don't believe in " luck " or charms. If you think that wearing your tighty whiteys with the little brown spot in the back makes you catch more fish then, have at it. Just stay in the back of the boat away from me, lol. ;D
  20. That is why I like this site so much. You can get a lot of info in here along with opinions that help you make decisions on your next purchase. Personally, I do not like braid. I use mono. I have tried to like braid but, just do not like the feel of it or any characteristics that it has. Mono for me, period. You really have to buy some to make this decision. Its a personal preference thing. A lot of these guys swear PP so, I would say it is good stuff if you want to try braid. Its just not for me.
  21. #6 in open water and deep clear water. #8 if I am around cover like grass and such.
  22. Save yourself some time on decision making. Buy a Stradic. These reels are the standard by which all spinning reels are measured against for the money. There are a lot of other good reels out there as well but, like I said, just by a Stradic and I am positive you will be pleased.
