A forward sent to me by a Captain in the Army
WHAT SENATOR JOHN GLENN SAID There were 39 combat related killings in Iraq in January. In the fair city of Detroit there were 35 murders in the Month of January. That's just one American city, About as deadly as the entire war-torn country of Iraq . When some claim that President Bush shouldn't Have started this war, state the following: A. FDR led us into World War II. B. Germany never attacked us ; Japan did. From 1941-1945, 450,000 lives were lost .. An average of 112,500 per year. C. Truman finished that war and started one in Korea . North Korea never at tacked us. From 1950-1953, 55,000 lives were lost ... An average of 18,334 per year. D. John F. Kennedy started the Vietnam conflict in 1962. Vietnam never attacked us. E. Johnson turned Vietnam into a quagmire. From 1965-1975, 58,000 lives were lost . An average of 5,800 per year. F. Clinton went to war in Bosnia without UN or French consent. Bosnia never attacked us . He was offered Osama bin Laden's head on a platter three Times by Sudan and did nothing Osama has attacked us on Multiple occasions. G. In the years since terrorists attacked us , President Bush Has liberated two countries, crushed the Taliban, crippled Al-Qaida, put nuclear inspectors in Libya, Iran, and North Korea without firing a shot, and captured a terrorist who Slaughtered 300,000 of his own people. The Democrats are complaining About how long the war is taking. But It took less time to take Iraq than it took Janet Reno To take the Branc h Davidian compound. That was a 51-day operation. We've been looking for evidence for chemical weapons In Iraq for less time than it took Hillary Clinton to find The Rose Law Firm billing records. It took less time for the 3rd Infantry Division and the Marines to destroy the Medina Republican Guard Than it took Ted Kennedy to call the police after his Oldsmobile sank at Chappaquiddick It took less time to take Iraq than it took To count the votes in Florida!!!! Our Commander-In- Chief is doing a HARD JOB! The Military morale is high! The biased media hopes we are too ignorant To realize the facts But Wait there's more! JOHN GLENN (ON THE SENATE FLOOR) Mon, 26 Jan 2004 11:13 Some people still don't understand why military personnel Do what they do for a living. This exchange between Senators John Glenn and Senator Howard Metzenbaum Is worth reading. Not only is it a pretty impressive Impromptu speech, but it's also a good example of one man's explanation of why men and women in the armed Services do what they do for a living This IS a typical, though sad, example of what Some who have never served think of the military. Senator Metzenbaum (speaking to Senator Glenn): "How can you run for Senate When you've never held a real job?" Senator Glenn (D-Ohio): "I served 23 years in the United States Marine Corps. I served through two wars. I flew 149 missions. My plane was hit by anti-aircraft fire on 12 different Occasions. I was in the space program. It wasn't my Checkbook, Howard; it was my life on the line. It was Not a nine-to-five job, where I took time off to take the Daily cash receipts to the bank." "I ask you to go with me ... As I went the other day... To a veteran's hospital and look those men ... With their mangled bodies in the eye, and tell THEM they didn't hold a job! You go with me to the Space Program at NASA And go, as I have gone, to the widows and Orphans Of Ed White, Gus Grissom and Roger Chaffee... And you look those kids in the eye and tell them That their DADS didn't hold a job. You go with me on Memorial Day and you stand in Arlington National Cemetery, where I have more friends Buried than I'd like to remember, and you watch Those waving flags You stand there, and you think about this nation, And you tell ME that those people didn't have a job? What about you?" For those who don't remember During WW.II, Howard Metzenbaum was an attorney Representing the Communist Party in the USA . Now he's a Senator! If you can read this, thank a teacher. If you are reading it in English thank a Veteran. It might not be a bad idea to keep this circulating.

Reel Magic or Real Hype?
I do use silicone on my line when it is cold out, as in, brrrrrrrrrr cold. I also use it on my line guides in late winter. I use this stuff very sparingly. I used to buy Reel Magic but, a friend of mine is a chef and gets me big cans of Food Grade silicone they use in the restaurant. This works for me, and free, is a price you can't beat. I would never use this stuff on or in my reels, no way, no how, nada.

I hear you RW. #8 is my limit on a spinning reel as well. Its what I use here though, most of the time, because of the river I fish. Nasty. What the hey, I will try the eight and buy some #6 when I see it. Thanks. As far as the green line, its a mental thing I guess. I HAVE to use green or I am not happy, lol. Just one of those little idiosyncrasy's of mine I guess.

HOW FAR WOULD YOU DRIVE?
I am a soft heart. This situation is so sad to me. Just think of the accomplishments this woman has achieved in her life. Its almost super human. The work ethic, focus, intelligence and drive she had to have had is almost inconceivable to me. I find it unbelievable that there were no signs that suggested the potential for her doing what she did. I don't feel that it was possible for a human such as her, just to instantly snap. I believe that there is a lot more to this story and eventually it will come out. Avid, I read on a thread where your wife had a Masters in Psychology, I would be interested in her view on this sad case. I think your wife is certainly qualified to render a armchair diagnosis even without all the facts, and is just a brief general one, in this case. The human mind is so complicated, anything can happen. We all have limits.

Stroke question
I have seen a lot of this over the years in the field I am in. There are so many variables and circumstances surrounding a CVA that each one is unique in its own way. The biggest hurtle is her willingness to stick with many weeks and or months of rehabilitation and therapy. This might help answer some of your questions. I will pray for her. - 218k - www.webmd.com - 13k www.aphasia.org www.info.com/StrokeRecovery

I bought my Yo Ult. Soft at Gander Mountain in Winchester Va. They did not have the #6 in green so my buddy bought two of the clear in #6. He bought me a #8 in green. He knows I won't use any line but green. I have not gotten it home yet. I hope the #8 will be OK on my Stradics. What say you RW?

Fishin show or 30min infomercial?
I am afraid the old days of tournament fishing are over. Bass tournaments are a industry like any other now, especially since ESPN took over the reins. I don't think you will see any other format other than advertising ever again. I miss those shows as well. I was a big fan of the " Fishin Hole " and " The In Fisherman ". Ah, the good old days.

Bass eating crawdads... Help??
Hey Catt, send me up five pounds of those crawdads would ya? I have some crawdad boil and Old Bay Seasoning. I personally don't think that it makes any difference to a bass which way he grabs a crawdad. I feel if they are hungry they just have at it. IMO,

How is your weather this morning?

College
First of all, I would say you are pretty young so, it doesn't matter how long it takes. Don't worry about anyone else, just stay focused and keep on getting on. I know it doesn't seem like there is any light at the end of the tunnel now but, it will come. The feeling of pride and accomplishment you will feel is well worth the work. I didn't go back and finish until I was 45, divorced, and paying a mortgage on one income. Just put one foot in front of the other and do it. Good luck, study hard, stay focused, and keep that GPA up. Good luck.

Good digital camera.
Yes, Nikon makes some nice camera's as well. I looked at them but, the one I liked was a little pricey for me. I have a pair of Nikon binoculars that are fantastic. I think for the money the Fuji is the way to go, at least for me.

Line watching
I always have a finger on the line for feel and always watch my line. I am a big time jig fisherman and if I am in ten foot of water or so and pitch a jig you really have to watch your line as the bass hit it on the fall a lot and your line will just stop before hitting bottom. Also, a bass will sometimes just inhale your jig or tube and sit on it. You will see some slack all of a sudden or see that "tick " in your line.

Whats your best post frontal cold weather tactic
Points are my first choice in a lake. Especially the ones with a lot of trash or grass on them. Also, creek channels with cover in them that you can pick up on the Depth Finder like grass, rocks, wood or even a supple drop in depth. They are holding pretty tight to cover in post front conditions most of the time. My first choice is a jig or a tube. A 4" deadringer is a good choice as well. I like to see 12-20 feet of water on my depth finder under these conditions, especially where I live. I am really seeing the difference in regional fishing on this thread. Up north in Western Maryland where I live it is practically a sin to use live bait for bass. Its not a bad thing so, don't jump me my friends, its just a regional thing.

Well Avid, sometimes, as the old saying goes, you just have to " bite the bullet ".

your deer this year
I didn't have much time this year to hunt. We had one of the best smallie bites around here in a long time in late Nov. and Dec and my spare time was on the river. I did manage to get in the stand on some evenings and even pulled down on a few scrub bucks but, never hit the trigger on my release. My buddy bought a farm last year and had a great year on some nice deer. I have plenty of meat for the winter. Always some deer steaks or a roast on my smoker in the winter!!! Marinate roast in Italian Dressing for about 2-4 hrs. Prepare smoker with Hickory Chips and small pan underneath with two bottles of beer. Cut small slits in roast and place 5 or 6 garlic cloves inside slits. Rub roast with Frenches Onion Soup Mix. Serve with fresh green beans cooked with ham hocks and potatoes and one med onion. Dessert--- Gelato vanilla bean ice cream topped with raspberry syrup mixed with raspberry brandy. Red wine---Alice White Shiraz

Good digital camera.
Thanks for the info guys. I have had my eye on that FF S5200 for awhile but, was considering portability aspects. I think I can live with a bigger camera for what I want to use it for. I will probably get it sometime this spring. I wish I would have had it this weekend as 5 does and 2 fawns were licking the salt off my van early Sat. morning. I have seen them do this before and it always amazes me. Again, thanks.
