Carolina Rig Ideas
I know a C rig works at times but, honestly, this rig is one that I hate to use. I just don't like them. If conditions call for this setup I use a Mojo more often than not. I like a Zoom Centipede for this kind of set up the best and I second a lizard in the spring.

Feeling guilty.
I am feeling a little guilty here. I started a politically charged post in which I am afraid started some tempers flaring. I love political subjects and like the back and forth discussions they seem to bring to the table. I also realize that this might not be the place for these types of discussions. Although I feel that the " Everything Else " thread was a ideal place for these types of discussions, in hindsight, I think I was wrong. Papa Rock, come on back and forget about that post, and Glenn, I apologize for interjecting such a thread. This is your site and not a democracy, as I initially felt it was. You run a good, clean, fun site here. Although, not everyone is going to agree on all the topics brought to the table here, I am afraid that some discussions are better off left alone. A little constructive back and forth arguing is great and some good old fashioned arguments can be fun but, I feel that the politics might better be squared off in another venue. Again, lets forget about all the politics and just continue to rib each other in jest in this thread and keep it on a friendly level. Thanks---Jim

What temp do smallies get rollin' ?
Great story RW. I would keep hitting that spot as well. I would bet that day put a smile on your face ! I have a similar story, very similar. I was on the Susquehanna one day by myself and having a mediocre day, I had run into a few friends that day and it seemed everyone was just having on of those " catch one here or there days ". I pulled up to a small, very unnoticeable point that I had caught some good fish on from time to time but, had never been one of my sweet spots. I pulled under a overhanging tree where I could get out of the fast flow and pitched up into a eddie. I caught 28 smallmouth out of that hole that ranged from around 3-10 to 5-4. A friend of mine and a couple of his buddies were just above this point and he and his buddies just anchored and watched me catch these fish. It all happened in about 35 or 40 minutes and then it was over. I was using a tube and a 1/4oz jighead and pitching it right into the very top of that eddie. I have been back to that spot, or should I say, I always stop there when I am in that area and have caught one here or there but, have never had a moment like I had experienced that day. Its like the day you were talking about, magic. I guess something was holding them or drew them there that day. To the point, I just cannot go by that hole and not stop, even if just briefly, to see if I can duplicate that magic 40 minutes.

Top 10 common fishing terms.
10 Common Fishing Terms Explained Angler An obsessed individual who owns a house that is falling down due to neglect, a truck whose color can best be described as Rust-Oleum, and a pristine boat that he chamois' down methodically before and after each trip. Quiet Water Your surroundings after you stop cursing your bad luck and fall asleep at the reel. Skunked fisherman One who returns to the boat ramp many, many hours after his buddies have gone home so that there are no witnesses to his catch or lack thereor. Sinker (1) A weight attached to a lure to get it to the bottom. (2) The nickname of your boat. Thumb A temporary hook holder. Treble Hook Triples the odds of your catching a fish. What temp do smallies get rollin' ?
RW, I was talking about the very cold water bunching them up in the eddies in the mid to late winter, especially when the river is on a fast rise and getting muddy. We rock them here in those conditions. After ice out it seems that when the water gets in the mid 40's to 52, things start to really come alive again. At 57 or so it really begins to pick up and at 62 and up its go time. A great time for big smallies on spinnerbaits during this time. Our spawn is almost like clock work as well. You can bet that the last two weeks of April up through the first two weeks in May is cha-ching time. This time frame can very from year to year but, not by very much and only in few days either way time frame. Good luck.

Kissing your fish
Ha,ha. I have kissed all my bass for years. I take a ribbing for it. I have been guiding for 17 years and I have a few clients that do the same thing, lol. I am wondering to myself how many fish I have kissed over the last thirty odd years. I don't even remember when I started this practice. I don't kiss the fish we catch around Three Mile Island though, no way, nada. I will say this, some of the fish I have kissed are prettier than some of my most recent dates !!! LBH, don't french kiss them, they scratch the heck out of your tongue !!! ;D

Quiting tobacco chewing..
Ask your family Dr. for some help. He has a few ways to help you and I am sure he will provide them at no cost to you. I used to rub skoal as well and quit. I am in the health field and have seen first hand at what it can do and it was more than enough to make a decision to quit. It is not pretty.

What temp do smallies get rollin' ?
If you can get your boat on the water, fish. You can catch them anytime. Our best time here for big fish is when the water is between 35 to 42 degrees.

Fishing during dam releases
Thanks RW. It is interesting how different regions use certain tactics. Good luck in 07 and send me a pic of that 12, OK? Sounds like you and your buddy have unlocked the puzzle where you fish and have done your homework. We are similar in our ideas in the flow being fast is the best time. For us when the river is like chocolate milk, cold and high water conditions it is the best time for big smallies. These conditions make it easy to find them. Again, thanks.

I thought I read that you guys used " live bait " for fishing in another thread you posted RW. Are you talking live bait for stripers or are we talking smallies?

Prayers Please, tragic student death
My prayers to the young man and family as well. It breaks my heart for anyone to move on by accident but, when it is a youth that never had a chance to experience life, it makes it that much sadder. Such is life.

Musical talent
Sorry C312 I meant Elmore James, I was dyslectic this morning, lol. My brother in law is the drummer for the old Kix band and is now with Funny Money ( Check out their new CD, Rob is a fantastic guitar player with a memory for all the old riffs and licks ) and he turned me on to Joe B. a few years ago. I saw him live and it is pretty amazing. Ted Nugent was on a show and played with him and said " He is one of the best he ever had the privilege to play with ". He is like Stevie Ray, Steve Vaie and Joe Satrioni, you just wonder how they play or could play that well. I had a friend that was in the service years ago and went to a dive in Texas and a little known guy at the time by the name of Stevie Ray Vaughn was playing and he taped it with a old recorder. That guy was supernatural on a guitar. I feel that Joe Bonamassa is the new SRV.

Musical talent
I have been playing guitar for a long time. I like my six string and electric but, I find myself picking up my 12 string most of the time. Playing guitar for me is relaxing. I play almost every day. Some of my favorites just off the top of my head are... Jimi Hendrix Joe Bonamassa Stevie Vaie Joe Satrioni Carlos Santana Duane Allman James Elmore Robert Johnson Jimmy Page Eddie Van Halen Steve Morse Adrian Legg Roy Buchannon Gary Rossington Steve Gaines Ed King Allen Collins Ricky Medlock The above last five were the guitar players for Lynyrd Skynyrd my favorite all time band.

Don't give a redneck love poem to a Austrian girl. They just don't get it. Eva just gave me a blank stare. I guess they don't have rednecks in Austria.
