Black whitetail deer.
My friend sent me this picture of a black whitetail. He said the article described this mutation as more rare than albinism in deer.

Sight fishing yes or no
Maryland has closed bedding areas for awhile now on the Lower Potomac in certain areas such as Nanjamoy and on the Upper Chesapeake Bay around certain areas around Havre Degrace. I would like to see all our lakes have a least one or two areas closed to fishing during the spawn. I don't fish for bedding bass but, I used to. I have caught some hogs doing this in the past but, its like shooting a buck swimming across the river to me ( which is illegal by the way in MD). Its too easy. I just don't do it. If you want to fish for spawner's I won't bash you for it. Thats your choice. I just don't do it myself anymore.

cure for peekers
That is hilarious ;D but, I think if you did this your trip would be severally interrupted for quite a while. :'(

Which Line (Sufix, Yo-Zuri, Gamma)?
Wareagle, I fish the Lower Potomoc a lot in MD,VA,DC area and the Zebra Mussels can kill you that are attached to the spatterdock, piers, etc. How do you think this " Vicious Line " line would hold up? Dura Tuf by Stren and Trilene XT are the two that I found to hold up the best. I don't think you will ever find a line that is impervious to these razor sharp shells but, I am always looking for something better. Any thoughts?

Reel Tip, I didnt know this
I do this even if it is only for a week at a time. It is one of those things that become a good habit, like not slamming your bail on a spinning reel but, closing it with your hand. These are both very good habits to abide by.

Inventions etc
I have doodled out a few concept rough drawings of a trolling motor that has a prop that is mounted on the front section of the lower unit and is designed to pull the boat through the water vs pushing it with a radical design prop. Basically the same concept as a rear wheel drive vehicle vs a front wheel drive vehicle. I think that in fast water a pulling type prop would be more efficient and user friendly as well as more stable at the foot pedal. I read a article not long ago about a new concept by Volvo Penta--I think--using a new radical design on outboard motors whereas the prop is positioned in front of the lower unit pulling the boat instead of using the physics of the prop pushing the boat.

How do you organize your worms?
I don't, I wear boxers. ;D

cannot cast overhanded
Keep at it and your thumb will get "educated". I rarely throw over handed. I mostly throw with a roll cast side arm motion. I guess that will come later for you. It seems to work best for spinnerbaits. What ever bait you are throwing, let it hang down about 6 or 8 inches and shake your rod. If it drops slow that is what you are looking for. I turn everything off and go free spool using my thumb only but, in 35 years you will be doing the same. Good luck, it will come to you.

Spool-Filling mystery.....
I use the Eva Asburnink Groenstast spooling station. She is from Austria and doesn't ;D mind holding the spools of line on a pencil. This is a very attractive spooling station!

Excuse this dumb "fish pillow"question...
I hope you don't have a small mutt around the house. My buddy has one of those fish pillows in his den and every time I go over there his dog is trying to make fish puppies with it. Oh no, I don't laugh !!! ;D

What's your worm/jig rod?
I throw a lot of 10"-12" worms and it is on a 6'10" MH Team Allstar fast action. #14-#20 test. Usually #17. Jigs, 6'6" - 7' H fast action Team All Star. #20-#25 test. Usually #20 in grass and #25 around spatterdock and wood.

Spike-it Dip-&-Glo
I only use it occasionally and when I do it is very sparingly. Just a hint of chartreuse on the tail of a Pearl White Super Fluke seems to turn the smallmouth in the river on. Why? I don't know, but time after time it seems to make a difference. Another occasion I use it is when I am in a area with a lot of bluegill, I like to swim a green pumpkin jig with a worm trailer that has the very end of the tail dipped in chartreuse Spike It.

Line Size for Smallmouth
I swore I would not get on the smallie post but, in this case I will. A guide should never fish with his clients unless they ask him to show them some things. I might point out where to throw and why but, I like to concentrate on the boat to give them the best advantage. Its not always easy in fast current. I have seen guides fishing like they were with some buddies and it is just not right. Most people hire a guide to learn a river and get some education on the whys and hows. I will not touch a rod unless asked. Sometimes they ask, " Why don't you fish too", and I will tell them, this is your trip, not mine. The guys are not paying $275.00 for eight hours of watching another guy catch fish. As far as line I use both. Eight is the line I use 99% of the time on a 6'6" med, fast or extra fast action. When I use six in clear water or when I can get away with it, I use a 6"6" med lite, moderate action. I like using #6 for smallies simply because it doesn't impede the action of your tube or grub as much. Unfortunately under most of the circumstances I fish I usually go with #8 and always green low vis. Why green? I don't know, I just like green,
