Sorry Mitchell and Zebco; you're out.

My personal favorite every day reels (work-horses that I own more than one of):

Shimano Curado CU 100D (love the size and it's super smooth)

Shimano Symetre Spinning Reel 2500 size (best $79 reel ever!)

Honorable mention:

Diawa SS 1300 spinning reel (drag is awesome)

Lews Crankin Reel (Baitcaster)- the old black crankin reel BB1N I think

I have and love all of these reels. I use each of them for different applications.

Shimano Stradic's and Curado's.

Abu Garcia's in 4600, and 5600.

I have fished Garcia reels since the 50's.  Tried others as they came on the market but their early models couldn't compare to the Garcia IMO.  I inheireted 7 Shimno reels and 7 GLX rods when my best friend Chuck died and am going to give them a full trial in rememberance of him.  I voted Garcia but am not too old to change my mind if others are better.

ABU-GARCIA RULES ;D ;D ;D ;D ::) :) :) :) ;D ;D

I voted Shimano but I'm thinking on test driveing a Diawa Zillion was going to go this weekend to buy a new reel but my 10% coupon isn't good until the 12th through the 16th so I'm going this friday.   Man I hate waiting

I am a big Shimano fan but I think I am going to jump the fence and buy a Zillion tomorrow. Of course I may change my mind and get a Curado, again.

Overall, hands down, Shimano is the best.

Daiwa gets my vote

Where is the choice for Zebco?  Nothing like a super-tuned 33 or 202.   ;D

Only one kind   SHIMANO

Gosh Bud,

We haven't had this poll in almost two weeks, I was wondering if you had changed your mind? ::)

It's hard to take any "best reel" poll seriously that doesn't include Zebco as a choice.

pretty hard to pick from Daiwa and Shimano.  I like them both- but I went ahead and voted Daiwa cause there are so many Shimano guys on here.  I like the shimano BC's and the Daiwa Spinners.  Went fishing with a friend that has a Stella 2500 and I own the Steez 2500.  I think the Steez is a better reel- newer technology much lighter with a better drag.  Both are great reels, it's just time for Shimano to update a bit. :)

"It's just time for Shimano to update a bit."

I'm sure the new Steez is a great reel, but the Stella has been out there for five years and one upgrade (FB from FA). The fact that Daiwa finally came up with a high-end, competative product isn't surprising, it's just odd that it took them so long. We'll see how well they are reviewed a year from now. New, out-of-the-box is important, but durability is another aspect that I'm sure we all care something about.

Most of my reels are Shimanos and Daiwas ( 1 to 1 ) with a few old Garcias in the pack.

Daiwa HAD upper end reels for as long as Shimano but they were not for the rest of the world, JDM models only; now they decided to offer the rest of us mortals with a small sample of what they had for Japan.

I like Abu Garcia and Quantum. Just can't force my self to jump on the Shimano (or G loomis) bandwagon. I am very particular and don't like certain things about either one of those companies products.

Abu Garcia for me. Twenty-four years of great service.

Shimano. I think the stella is getting a minor upgrade on the spool lip this year.

DAIWA.

I own quite a couple, spinning & bitcasters, and never had any problem with them.

I tryied Quantum, ABU, Shakespeare, pinnacle but they didn't feel so "smooth".

Now, I have to give it to Shimano that they make darn good reels ( Symetre is a great value for the money, and yes, I own one). But I started out wiyh Daiwa and have no reason to change
