Stradic and Yo Zuri line=problems? (w/ pics now)
Why don't you try some line dressing like reel magic? I bought some flouro when it first came out and although it was pure flouro and not the soft hybrid, I dealt with it about 3 minutes, took it off, respooled with copoly and never looked back. This was on a Stadic spinning reel. I don't feel flouro is made for spinning reels. I just bought some Yozuri Soft the other week in #6 just to try it. I am always open to new ideas. I have not put it on yet. Some of my friends use braid and swear by it, some of them use flouro and swear by it also. For me, I like good ol' copoly. There are no idiosyncrasies to deal with, it just flat out works without all the , you have to do this or thats. This is only my opinion and is certainly not meant to down anyones choices in line. How is that for politically correct? :)

Rod for 1/8 - 1/4 oz. spinner baits.
OK Bassbrat, I have to ask you. Why are baitcasters taboo?

Rod for 1/8 - 1/4 oz. spinner baits.
For me only, I could never go a spinning rod and spinnerbait. Even if they are light 1/8-1/4. Without going into a brand war, I would say go with a 6' 6" baitcasting rod rated for 8-17 lb test and a 100 series baitcasting reel. Use 8-10 lb line on this setup. JMO. Good luck.

Color or rattle for stained water ?
If you are talking really stained or muddy water a Rattle Trap would not be my first choice. I would switch over to a jig in a black configuration or a spinnerbait with Indiana or Colorado blades. Good luck.

Deep Water Smallies
I think RW and Dizzy pretty much covered my choices. My personal first choice would be a gitzit. Dark Melon/Purple flake or Green Pumpkin/Red Flake. Use a 3/8oz jighead and be sure to add a rattle. It is not imperative to be in 50 feet of water. Its more important to look for transition areas. This is when you need to really decipher your depth finder. Creek channels, drop offs, rock piles, sunken islands and the end of points would be my daytime choices. I especially like those sunken islands or breaks in around 3o or 35 foot of water. Creek channels or river channels are gold mines in the summer months. Rocky bottoms are key when fishing for smallies in lakes although, they will suspend, as well. Early morning and late evening are the time for topwaters and especially white Super Flukes. Bass love them. Around here in the deep clear water lakes we do real well in the late summer at night. Smallies move up at night to the shallower water. I like to fish a rocky bottom with a gitzit at night in around 5 to 10 feet of water. Slowwwly drag your tube and be ready because they usually crush them at night. Areas with lighted docks that draw baitfish are a good choice when hunting night time smallies around the main lake area. Just some ideas, good luck.

when is fishing not fun?
Dude, there is no time when fishing for bass is not fun, if it is 15 degrees outside or 105 degrees, if my girlfriend is leaving me, if my boss threatens me for not working on a Saturday or Sunday, if the freakin ice age is coming tomorrow------if the bass are biting well, I am going to be there. Yes my friend, I am one of those idiots. I know, I know, its a disease, and boy have I had it bad for going on 40 years, lol.

Limitations of MediumLight vs Medium Power (spinn
Whoa LAO162. You just changed the whole scenario. I thought we were talking slip bobbers and sunnys with a occasional small bass or crappie. You mentioned 2 1/2 - 4lb bass on down the thread. If this is so and you want a general rod for whatever, be it sunfish or a large bass then you need a medium, fast action rod. You can catch a four pound bass on a UL, but, its not made for that. I think a good all around rod for catching sunnys up to bigger largemouth would be a M. JMO.

Galss beads: Faceted or smooth?
I don't think it matters if it is smooth or faceted. I always use clear beads when I do use them and its very seldom.
-
tube rigging
For river smallies I use from 1/8 - 3/8 lead heads. I always insert a rattle. When flippin heavy wood or grass for largemouth I usually use a 1/8 or 1/4 bullet wt and most of the time a 3/0 or 4/0 G Lock Gammy Hook.
-
Jig trailer?
For my largemouth jigs I use Zoom 4" Salty Chunks, usually in either Flippin Blue, Sapphire Blue, Green Pumpkin or Black or White, but, most often its Flippin Blue. I have had the most luck with this color. For my hair jigs for smallies I use Uncle Josh 101 Pork Frogs in black, green or white, it depends.

Spinnerbait blades.
I changed all of my spinnerbait blades over to Indiana blades this winter. I always kept the willow leaf blades on that came factory on some of my baits but, it seems I always got more bites on a wider blade vs willow. I even use them in clear water and seem to get more bites on these wider blades. The only spinnerbaits that I kept willows on were the ones I use in faster river water. I even down size some of them so they run better in current and I can burn them better, other than that I use all Indiana. What say you my friends?

UPS and Fishing Rods (A Nasty Combo)
Man, with the girls I date a pair of their panty hose would never fit through the line eyes. Maybe on a BIG saltwater rod.
