  1. Definitely wouldn't recommend anything like those. Even for catfish. Capture your own prey fish and use them as bait. I was told a long time ago that those packaged dead fish have had all the essential oils taken out of them to use in scents and other things. Fresh is always better.
  2. ALL GY PLASTICS CATCH FISH. At least all that I've tried, which is more than several.
  3. It has legs very similar to the tail on the new "sprinker" . Knowing what some folks are paying for those (or even asking ) ... 10 bucks doesn't seem so bad. But when you think about 20 trick worms for 5 bucks it makes you wonder.... It's because people are vigorously buying the "high end " stuff.. truck-loads of GY senkos and megabass lures being sold gives the other companies chances to up their prices.. I don't much care for it. If the trend keeps up, ill just be seining the creek for some fathead minnows and throwing cast-nets at sunfish for my lures
  4. They catch them spring through fall.. summer is especially good... I recommend a rage tail menace or a single tail kalins lunker grub for a trailer General consensus is a slow steady retrieve. But I've had luck burning them in and pitching them close to cover as well.
  5. I'm not sure what this knot is called. But after you snug that knot you tie a standard clinch knot with the fluorocarbon and it's done. Simplest way I've found to do it and you start the braid just like the Palomar so it's really easy to remember. It is very strong, I bent a 3/0 gamakatsu ewg out with 10lb fluoro and I've been using it ever since. I like using a leader for my weightless plastics.
  6. Aside from clubs , reading material and guides... Time on the water trumps all. Just like most things , the more you do it.. generally the better you become.
  7. Got out the other day with the lady . We had a blast with senkos and jig/chunks. They were all about the same size. It'd be a better picture If I could upload more than 857kb. But it is what it is.
  8. If the shad rap is included then that's my answer by a long shot. Without a doubt my biggest bass on cranks have came on these. The jointed version as well. Might wanna try some jerkbaits. They work year round.
  9. These two things together should solve your problem.
  10. I've been seeing all kinds of baits with flanges on their appendages. If SK has a patent and/or copyright then there must be ways around it because I'm seeing it everywhere. Keithechs crazy flapper has similar flanges for an example. And I just seen a bait on a tackle store website that looked similar to a missile baits d-bomb with flanges on the appendages like a rage tail. Riot baits I believe is who makes it.
  11. I've caught bass, bluegill and crappie on the pumpkinseed. Agreed it's nice looking.
  12. I bet I have 30+ DT cranks. From the originals, scatter, fat, and flat series. I have all the "live" patterns. Over the years I can say that the "regular" colors produce for me alot better. I recommend silver/black , gold/black, a perch pattern and firetiger. That's about all you need IMO.
  13. And currently 495 guests online at this moment ! Every time I searched for reading material my questions in the search bar would always lead me to a thread in bassresource. It was always there , on the first page of results. Pretty soon I just started going to bassresource directly. I visit daily. There's a thread on this site for all levels and aspects of fishing . Awesome material and a good community.
  14. A Walmart in my area sells senkos , rage tail and chatter baits ! Usually anything I see in the dollar range is thrown in a box, more often than not they are yum plastics .
  15. Yea it's similar to a jitterbug. It catches bass.. and looks cool. Whether it's worth the money is up to you. I like the double hook it comes with.
  16. Try a z man lizard... They float a 3/0 hook easily , Literally float off the bottom. They have become my go-to lizard.

    Bull shad.
  18. The lake you're fishing looks awesome ! You said you waited and set the hook... Maybe next time, don't wait ? As soon as I know it's in their mouth I'm setting the hook ! That goes for any lure. There should only be a pause in the hookset if you're unsure that the fish has the hook in its mouth.. if you watched it take the bait , especially completely ... I think you should have set the hook immediately. Pretty sure I've seen some of your other reports. You'll go back n get her.

I still catch fish with hula poppers, jitterbugs, Daredevil spoons and especially mepps ! What a true multi species bait ! From rock bass to northern pike, largemouth to catfish.... It catches them all! Anyway, welcome to the forums.. sweet first post ! As far as "plugs" go.... It's easy to be overwhelmed.... In terms of value (in my opinion) I think rapala , bomber , bandit and strike king take the cake.. most of their cranks cost anywhere between 5-9 bucks... And I could make do with just these companies when it comes to plugs. Depending on your wallet... There are more expensive options that are praised highly by most bass fisherman... Such as lucky craft, jackall, and megabass.. most of these run between 15-25 dollars with a few exceptions from each company.. I own a few of these lures, and they are all very nice and catch bass... But something about breaking off a 17 dollar crankbait really chaps the rear.. Good luck on your largemouth endeavors
  20. @TxHawgs I wouldn't consider myself an expert.. just really love the value you get from their baits. That being said , I've never tried a DT in the winter... I'm usually using jigs, flutter spoons, blade baits and jerkbaits. I can confirm the x-raps perform in cold water. But that's pretty much common knowledge. If you can get your baits to suspend properly then I'd assume they could catch fish in cold water... Although I'm almost always targeting fish in deeper water than 7 foot in the winter.
  21. As a rapala lover and collector I have experience with these hooks. Honestly don't care for them on most cranks. But I really like them on my topwaters. Several times I brought a bass in that was stuck only on that one elongated shank. I will also use them on the DT fat 1 and 3. Other than that.. I'd rather have short shanks.
  22. Try one of those small bluegill savage gear swimbaits. They are only 10 bucks . I'm not recommending them because they are a sponsor, I'm recommending them because they catch bass so they are sure to catch pike.. also mepps #5 spinner is a known and proven pike Slayer (I've even caught a big channel cat on them) . I think Scott F is on to something.. sounds like a location issue.
  23. Rage bug for sure, also like the GY flappin hog for days when the high action of the rage bug isn't what they want.
  24. I have a kast king royale, and have the same issues with the spool tension knob. It goes from ultra tight to super loose very quickly.... Its pretty annoying . Learned my lesson though. I leave it at home.
