  1. Was browsing FB and found these together. He wants $400 for both of them. Good deal? 1st Abu Garcia revo sx on a Abu Garcia Ike rod. Medium action. 7.1:1 gear ratio 65 lb braid. Rod and reel are in perfect condition. 2nd is a lews speed spool on a Mach speed stick. Medium/heave action 7.5:1 gear ratio. Rod and reel are in perfect condition.
  2. Believe I'm going with the 2017 Vibe Sea Ghost 130. Found one on FB for $800. Plus I joined the Vibe Kayak Owners group and man Vibes customer support is top notch.
  3. Just found a Pelican Catch 120 NXT on FB for $600, said its only been in the water about 4 times. But also found the Sea Ghost 130 for $800 on there. Sometimes I hate decisions.
  4. That's a nice looking Yak there. That's one of the ones on my list of possible yaks. While the first one you pictured looks like a nice ride, there is just something about the sit on top ones that just really pop out there to me. I'm sure it'll be fun figuring out how to get it loaded / unloaded, but where there is a will there is a way. Will just give me an excuse to buy a trailer then.
  5. Appreciate the response on it. Yea the weight is what is killing it for me. I don't have a garage, all I really have is a front porch to store my yak on and I will be transporting it on top of a 1995 jeep grand cherokee. I did look on Facebook Marketplace last night and found 4 Vibe Sea Ghost 130s, 3 of them for $800, and one for $775. The one for $775 came with a hummingbird fish finder, a Go Pro, upgraded paddle, upgraded seat, and is only located 2 hours away. Really interested in that one. Just not sure which one I want yet. I keep watching youtube videos on them both. The Sea Ghost and the Shadow Caster.
  6. So I've been tinkering with the idea of possibly getting a Kayak for about a year now. Yeah, I thought ok let's just look online and pick one out. Ok, there is a nice one, I like that one also, oh this one is nice. So a year later I'm still browsing thru all the kayaks that are made. I'm ready to stop looking and make a purchase. What I'm looking for is Under $1000 (Selling an old truck I got, so whatever I sell it for is what I have to buy a kayak with) Easy to stand in A few that come to mind that I've liked so far was. Pelican's The Catch 120 NXT (Honestly tho the 120 NXT doesn't seem to offer a whole lot more than the regular 120 for the price increase it has) F&S Shadow Caster (Even tho it's almost 100 lbs) Vibe Sea Ghost 130 Honestly from just watching youtube videos and looking at pictures online, they all seem to be built about the same. So, anyone got any recommendations? My fishing conditions will most likely be my local river, which is pretty huge river and very busy in the summer.
  7. That's what I'm thinking. So far my push mower and my 100 qt Coleman cooler hasn't left the yard. I could store it next to the house with 2 padlocks and cables. One padlock attached to the porch on one end, and another lock around my gas meter on the other end. THen cover with a tarp
  8. That's the problem, I live in a small barely 3 bedroom house with my girlfriend and 3 kids. Have really nowhere to put the thing other than that building or stand it up in my bedroom. SCRATCH THAT, just measured my tallest ceiling in the house and it's only 8ft. So would be no way possible to stand it up in the bedroom. Guess I'm not getting a kayak.
  9. Will be looking to purchase my first kayak soon. First problem, where the hell am I going to store this thing? I don't have a garage, I do have a small storage building out back, I MIGHT be able to stand it up in. Thing is, I live in Central Alabama and it's so humid down here it gets HOT, like hellfire and brimstone hot. I know right now inside my storage building out back it's probably easily 100+ degrees in there. Would I need to worry about anything cracking on the kayak if I was to store it in there? I would throw it up on some saw horses and cover it with a tarp outside, but I'm scared, someone might like it a little more than I do and take it home with them, Plus I'm a heavy sleeper so not really sure I'd hear them in time to put a bullet in them before they make off with it. I might could find a spot in the house and stand it up, IF the girlfriend would allow it. So other than that I really have nowhere to store it. So would the storage building idea be a bad thing or an ok thing?
  10. Just looked at BPS and wal-mart online and the box is still $57 at wal-mart and $69.99 at BPS. Plus I have 2 of these boxes. Might try and sell them and pick up a backpack for my gear.
  11. Someone sent me a message soon as I posted the pics asking me to take pics of that one they wanted to buy it. Turns out it had no markings on it or anything.
  12. Appreciate the responses. Might throw them up on here and see if anyone is interested in any trades. I got a whole side panel on the box full of spinnerbaits, and found a few packs of worms and other goodies in the top of the box.
  13. I do have one question about one of the crank baits. It has 2 spots on it's bill to tie line onto. Is that a deep diving / shallow diving spots? Also I appreciate all the responses. I believe I'll clean some of these up and see what I can make work. And the older ones like the devil horse I'll just put on a shelf.
  14. Wasn't really wanting to sell any of them, more like just trash them and start over. Just wanted to make sure I didn't have some lure in there that wasn't mass produced that I prob should keep on a shelf somewhere. Appreciate the response.
  15. First, a bit of a story. Pretty much been fishing every since I was old enough to hold a rod. Over the years tho, I kind of drifted away and haven't really fished good in some few years now. My dad had bought me a Plano 737 Tackle Box years ago when they first came out because I liked his so much. When I quit fishing so much he emptied my box into his and he continued to fish. Back last year I bought a new rod / reel setup and wanted to get back into fishing hard and heavy like I use to. Well now my dad has slowed down A LOT and don't really fish as much as he use to, he now pretty much spends his time shooting his long bows. So since he has his arsenal of Abu Ambassadeurs (Around 7 or 8 of them) already on his boat and fitted with the lures he fishes with most he just gave me his Plano 737 with all the lures in it. I got to looking in it tonight and noticed quite a few of the lures have rusted / broken hooks, some of the bills are broken or have had the glue melted and fell off. So I wanted to clean the box up really well since I still like it and toss out all those broken / useless lures. As a lot of them look like they are maybe $1 from wal-mart, and I am going to start buying up some good lures like Senko's, Super Spooks, ect to fish with. But, before I throw everything away I just wanted to post a few pics on here and see if any of this stuff may be worth keeping. Appreciate the responses.
  16. Purchased myself a PENN Spinfisher V 4500ll back last year and have now made it my stripe setup and now I'm looking to grab a big game/catfish setup. I mainly fish my local river beside our dam. Power company allows us to fish down there and you can pretty much walk right up to the bottom of the dam and cast out. Seen some pretty huge catfish get pulled from there. Was thinking about picking up a Shimano Tekota 600 and pair it with an Okuma Battlecat rod and some 65# power pro line. Then I got to looking at the Ambassadeur 7000 series reels. This will most likely become one of my main bait setups as the PENN setup will mainly be a lure setup for stripe. But in the rare event, I travel back down to FL to fish like I use to a lot, I want something that will be able to handle decent size fish if I ever happen to hook one. Just looking at opinions. Appreciate it in advance.
  17. My rod finally arrived today so was able to finish my new setup. PENN Spinfisher V 4500LL spooled with 30lb Power Pro Spectra hi-vis yellow braided line. TSUNAMI Five Star Rod 7' MH, line rated for 12-25lb, lure rating for 1/2 - 3oz
  18. Yea I noticed the 309 was huge and I wasn't about to try and cast it. I took both reels off of the 6'6" rods as they have just been sitting in my dad's shop for years and years now and rats have done chewed up the rods pretty bad. How about an 8' surf rod? Or possibly a 7' MH rod like the Tsunami Five Star Rod?
  19. Well I went over to my parents house today for the holiday and my dad gave me 2 reels. He gave me an older PENN 209 and a Shakespeare Tidewater 30LA, he also had an older PENN 309 but I have no use for such a huge reel at the moment. He had both of them on a 6'6" MH ugly stik big game rod and he said he could throw the 209 as far as he needed to fish. Any of you ever use either one of these reels?
  20. I was looking at the squall vs the levelwind squall and they both seem to have the free spool lever, just the levelwind reel doesn't say it. But do you think the levelwind option would fall short like my black max reel does? As the levelwind reel has 3 bearings where the non-levelwind version has 6, or does those extra bearings do anything for casting distance?
  21. 50% is a big increase, think you could come up with some numbers as in how far you cast that lure in yards? I'm not looking to throw to the moon, but where I fish for cats / stripe is right below our hydroelectric dam here and it’s usually calm still water in the mornings then they usually turn on 2 turbines around 10am which gets the water churning up pretty good and that’s when all the boats come rushing in and park dead in the middle of the churning water and either start casting or dropping jugs and just let the current push their boat down stream. Well, with my Black Max combo I bought a few years ago from Wal-Mart I been using a 7/16oz plastic shad or a 1oz lead with a 3/0 circle hook and some cut bait and I just couldn't quite reach where all those boats kept coming in tossing out their jugs and picking up the cats. So I went and bought a PENN Spinfisher V 4500LL this week and now that I've gotten fishing fever again I saw the PENN Squalls and fell in love with the way those looked and was wanting to pick one up. Also, if I ever travelled back to Panama City Beach to fish again I would know I had decent gear for saltwater and wouldn't have to worry about anything.
  22. Mainly stripe bass or occasionally catfish. I know this is a bass fishing forum but when I searched for best fishing forum on google this one popped up and I joined and kinda stuck here. As I don't own a boat and 99.9% of my fishing is right below our hydroelectric dam here in Alabama where everyone jam packs on the weekends trying for that big stripe or big cat. I did purchase the PENN Spinfisher V 4500LL as my spinning reel and it weights in at 16.2oz and I can cast this thing all day long without as much as feeling like I broke a sweat. So I wasn't really considering the weight on the Squall, as I figured I could cast this thing just like my Spinfisher and be ok. The reason I chose the Squall is I like the design and the look of it over the low profile baitcasters, and I already use an Abu Garcia Black Max combo I bought at wal-mart a few years ago, so for my spinning setup I went with the PENN Spinfisher and now was looking to add a 3rd reel to my arsenal and was impressed with the Squall. As I've mainly fished with reels like the Black Max or the ambassadeur series reels that have a levelwind system I am more inclined to buy a reel with levelwind.
  23. Was wondering how much of a distance increase would you get over a levelwind reel? Lets use the PENN Squall reel as a reference. If I was to get one of the PENN Squall levelwind 15 or 20s what would be the ideal distance?
  24. Haha, understandable. We've all done the same in our youth. Now that I'm getting older I feel like the grumpy old man in the neighborhood.
