  1. That's awesome, carp will give you a fight twice harder than bass. I like carp fishing but hate bait and wait kind of fishing. I have not been to pudding stone lake for a couple of years. I might try to do some carp fishing there in one of this day.
  2. I would love to fish for snakehaed again. I used to fish them in Thailand quit a bit. If you see a group of snakehead fry, just use any topwater especially those buzzbait, either the mom or dad would hit your topwater like no tomorrow.
  3. Welcome another Socal.
  4. Good luck to you on whatever you get. You will have even more fun on the boat as long as you know what you are doing. Don't forget to wear life jacket at all time even when the boat not running.
  5. Congrat for your first bass now get ready for more.
  6. line run like when you wait and bait fishing? Maybe you let your worm sat slack line, when bass bite you didnt feel the bite up until the point line move to be tight enough and let go the worm that when you felt it. Just my wild guess.
  7. Welcome to the bright side ?. Anyway I have 4 spinning setup but mostly I prepared for my wife and kids, on the other hand I have more than10 baitcasting for bass, catfish and saltwater. I do use spinning setup from time to time mostly light jig for sunfish.
  8. It's might be better for you, at least you have to wait until you get a car to tow the boat anyway. Again look if possible look for Sun dolphin pro 120. I see 3 guys on this boat running around and still stable enough.
  9. Done Abu used to sell one with anti backlash system but I wouldnt use that.
  10. I know you are 15 and impatient to look for the boat as people recommended you on other post. If you really want to buy that jon boat, go ahead but be warned that it is not gonna be stable. I show you my boat which is exactly what you want with casting desk on both front and back, so I do have first hand experience. To tell you the truth the first time we took the boat, it scared the hell out of me. If you really gonna buy that jon boat, please save some money and buy life jacket first. When you go out make sure to stand in the middle of the boat not to the side, if possible stand on flat bottom the best. Jon boat is pretty shallow in fact you might not need casting desk at all. Good luck to you.
  11. Awesome smallie. Are there small mouth in SoCal?
  12. Lucky you man, I've tried very hard to get anyone of my family to go fish with me, so far NADA.
  13. Hi there. Im from socal as well but in riverside area
  14. Jon boat is not so stable if you gonna build a plat form to stand no matter what size. It works but you have to be very careful when you move around. How do I know? This is my jon boat pimp up for bass fishing, 14' long with 36" (edit) wide. I alway fish with a 250lbs friend and when he moves the boat would lean to the side. So far we have not had any incident yet knock on wood becuz we try to balance each other. Another thing WIND, this is really big problem with light weight aluminum jon boat. on the other hand WRB recommended Sun Dophin Pro 120. I have seen this boat preform in Jon B. Video. I think it is way better than my jon boat in the way of stability and storage. Check it out.
  15. Welcome another socal friend.
  16. Welcome another socal friend. I am in riverside area. I fish lake perris most of the time but not very successful one.
  17. Im not an expert so forgive me if i am wrong. First I would use just weight that match you rod for pratice. I would say 3/8 would be good start. Do not try very light weight just yet eapecially below 1/4. Backlash is normal in baitcaster even with pro so dont worry about it that much, think about you get to learn how to handle backlash the more you deal with backlash the faster you can clear it. If it is too difficult to clear the line just cut it off and start again. In this case just get a cheap line not too big nor too small. I would say arounf 10-12lbs would be good start. Avoild braid since that even harder to clear. Set the brake just light start from full level depend on what type of reel you got magnetic or centrifugal brake, then use cast control knob to adjust more free spool. Now the reel, If you dont have one, i would say get something in between not too cheap nor the expensive high end. Something that you can use for a long time if you decided to stick with bait casting reel. In this case if you dont have the rod yet I would recommend something like Lightning casting rod in medium action.
  18. I dont carry neither scale nor ruler with me when bank fishing so I dont weight. But i do use rod length to compare the bass size. On my old rod I make a mark at 1'6" and 2" so at least I know how big the bass. On both I got both but weight only if it is a big fish.
  19. x2 here the different is it took me a lot longer than 10 cast sound like 1000 cast to dial in. I also use a lot of tension knob when switch from heavy to lite lure. Unlike my curado 100d and calcutta 50, those are set and forget it.
  20. Count me as another Yozuri Hybrid user. All of my casting reel got hybrid #6 and #8 except one. All of my spinning spool with 20 braided line and top of with either 6lbs or 10lbs fluro. I do like Izorline XXX #4 too but that because I cant find hybrid in #4 and I need that for my lite setup for trout or panfish.
  21. I used to use Abu 6500c3 and took that levelwind off the reel. It cast pretty good way better than original, but still not enough for me. I then switch to Newell 220-5 series and wow what a different. That would be 20 years ago. Once I moved here to US, you know what the first thing I bought, newell of course and abu 6500c3 as well.
  22. Nice fish, congrat one is still better than none
  23. To me depend on how far Im gonna cast out, but mostly from bank fishing, I will cast within 15-20ft and most of the time I got bite within 10 feet from bank. With that said I leave tag end less than 12" sometime 6". I fish drop shot pretty fast as searching tool for bass. I do a lot of hopping the plastic. Lately I use a lot of Zman plastic which float on dropshot, so I have to modified my dropshot as short as half an inch on tag end(just like jika rig). The two pics show Z-man plastic with my modified dropshot rig. as to use drop shot in weed, i narmally use gamakatsu ewg size#2 and hook just like regular weedless style.
