Has this ever happened to anyone?
I was watching a Dave Mercer Facts of fishing episode on You Tube where he had the same thing happen. A frog ate his frog lure. He was wondering if the frog was hungry or frisky.

Dropshot Knot Trouble
I use a palomar knot on the pre-tie tag end and when attaching it to the main line another palomar knot. I pass the hook and the pre-tied end through the loop then cinch the knot. I agree it takes too much time tying these hooks on while fishing. Add on the small loops on the barrel swivel, movement of the boat and bad eyes and it could be an all day affair.

Anybody watching Stranger Things on Netflix?
According to an article on vox.com titled "Stranger Things 2 what we know so far" the second season is set 1 year after the events of the first. This is to explain the natural aging of the child stars. It will be more like a sequel than a continuation of the series. While the first season was inspired by sci-fi horror the second season will be more a homage to 80's action flicks. The article described it like the difference between Alien and Alien 2

Dropshot Knot Trouble
I love the VMC Spinshot hooks. I have several pre-tied with the tag end for the weight in anywhere from 10" to 24" length. I store them in zip lock bags, length written on the bag in sharpie. Saves me time and line twist at the same time.

How do you utilize the drop shot?
The above video is great and so is the one with Mike Iaconelli at the Florida food court. Highly recommend watching. The drop shot is the definition of finesse fishing. On the lake I fish I will set up my boat to drift past an island and present the bait by casting or right under the boat at times. I have seen power fishers come in with their crank, swim and spinner baits. They will set up in front or behind me and start casting. Four or Five casts later they speed off to the next spot 90% of the time empty handed. Last week I drifted right past a spot they fished and landed a two and a half pound Smallmouth on my drop shot using a Roboworm. I like the relaxing finesse style but I admit its not for everyone. As others have said you will catch lots of fish on the drop shot. Lots of shorts with a big one now and then to spice it up.

My first baitcaster
Good choice. My Black Max is still kicking. Its the baitcaster I use to practice casting in my backyard. I like it so much I pair it with a Fenwick Eagle GT casting rod and take it out on the water from time to time over my higher priced Quantum, Pflueger and Daiwa baitcasters.

Help with spinning reel
I feel your pain as my Symetre is going on 8 years and I am going to hate replacing it when it goes. I would have said replace a Symetre with a Symetre but they seem dramatically different from the old aluminum versions. The reviews are scaring me as well. I got to handle one in Field and Stream over the weekend and it seemed fine to me other than the flimsy bail wire. The new compact body is nice so I might bite the bullet and get one soon. If you are staying in the $100 range you might try the new Shimano Nasci. Looks real nice and loaded with features. My other suggestions would be: Pflueger President (regular or limited edition) or Daiwa Exceler

How do you utilize the drop shot?
All of the above. I have had success with the drop shot in all these situations. The length of my trailer depends on where I think the fish are suspended. My bait color is decided by water clarity and natural forage.

Good Light Beer Choices
I do. I am not overly concerned its just a matter of saving calories here and there. I am down from 280lbs to 190lbs through watching my caloric intake and using my Fitbit to track 10,000 steps a day. Everyone's battle with weight is different. I found that once I tracked my calories and exercise with technology the pounds came off.

Good spinning rod around 80$
Of the rods you listed and the methods you intend to use I would say the Shimano Sellus is a great choice. For what you want to use it for I would choose the worm and jig model. I love the extra fast action on those rods. I have a St Croix premier and that is a great choice in the ML fast action for Senko fishing. Can't go wrong with a Fenwick Eagle on the lower end of your price range or a Shimano Clarus on the higher end.

Good Light Beer Choices
I say the same thing about decaffeinated coffee. I drink it for the kick not the taste. Beer is the same. I am looking for the kick not the taste and I do have to watch my weight so if I am going to drink beer its got to be light. If I am looking for taste in my drink its going to be a Canadian whiskey instead! If I am really going to splurge on calories and money its going to be a Macallan 12 year old single malt.

What has been your best large bass lure of this late summer?
6" Roboworm green purple color nose hooked on a drop shot rig.

Best all around line
I found his response odd as I use anywhere from 6 to 10lb mono on my spinning set ups. Never had a "hawk nest" on a spinning reel unless I over spooled. *Nevermind, I missed the Yo-Zuri Hybrid part. I thought he was talking about plain mono, sorry.* Back to the original topic, I like good old Stren 8lb in clear blue fluorescent. My eyes are not as good as they used to be and that stuff stands out in the light. Berkley Big Game in green is my 10lb line of choice.

Looking for 5 finesse techniques
I agree. I wacky rig Shim E Sticks, Ochos and Flick Shakes as well as Senkos. Wacky rigging weightless is also not necessary. I wacky rig all of the above baits on my drop shot set up and do just as well.

Dumb Move Was an Expensive Lesson
I saw my buddy lose his prescription sunglasses overboard while just looking over the side. Sweat made them slide right off his face and into the ocean. Since then I always wear a cheap Strike King sunglass strap on my prescription Ray Ban Wayfarers. They are too expensive to chance an accident.

The latest sale thread
I noticed they are not on the Shimano website at all anymore. I hope they are not discontinuing the series in favor of the Nasci as they are the same price.

Pflueger President good?
The Pflueger President is the perfect balance of price and quality. Great reel at a good price. I bring a couple of setups when I go fishing and never leave home without a President or Trion with me. I hope mine last forever as both my President and my rear drag Trion have the rosewood handle knobs that I miss on the newer Pfluegers. They even came with the felt bag and spare spools that are a thing of the past.

The latest sale thread
Cabela's is having a sale on the Shimano Symetre right now. $59.99 down from $99.99 I am tempted to get one and try the X-Ship out. My old Symetre is still my favorite reel. I have an old 2500 aluminum version with the maintenance port.

Best use of first aid supplies sufficient enough to fit into a pocket for fishing?

Burger King's New WHOPPERITO
I like Burger King but I have to agree they are not the cleanliest fast food establishments. Another thing I noticed, at least by me, they are in some of the worst real estate spots for businesses. Hard to get into and out of. To make a left turn into one of them cuts across 3 lanes of busy traffic. The other BK by me is right by a roundabout that has traffic backed up to block the entrance most of the time.

Anybody watching Stranger Things on Netflix?
I finished watching the season this weekend. I loved it. I found it was a combination of Stand by me or It! and Firestarter. The kids playing Dungeons and Dragons reminded me of ET. It even had a little Poltergeist feel to it. A great tribute to 80's sci-fi/horror movies. This is a great little show and I highly recommend it.

Learned a valuable fishing lesson today
I avoided my favorite spots on Labor Day weekend. I was able to get on the lake Thursday though and it was great. The holiday crowd had yet to arrive. I went shopping for fishing gear on Sunday and Monday instead. Now that they are gone it should be peaceful fishing from now until Columbus Day.

Dock fishing baits
I drop shot docks right at the edge of the shade. It's hard to get the rig under the dock unless it is high. I usually have a strike king dream shot nose hooked and I barely move the bait. If I don't get a hit after a few minutes I will bring it in slow and toss it to a different spot. I have caught on the drop, sitting still and the retrieve so it's pretty effective.
