Wacky rig and braid
Straight 40# braid and a wacky senko is money. Throw it and throw it often.

Braid Test on Baitcasters
I recommend 40# braid and up for baitcssters. 40# braid is usually the equivalent diameter of 10# pound mono. Lower pound test in braid tend to dig into itself on baitcasters. Usually the line capacities on reels are for reference, just keep in mind that bigger the line the less that can fit on the reel and vice versa.

Do we go a little overboard with the fluoro leaders?
Leaders make break offs less of a hassle and prevent me from losing a lot of my main line when they occur. I use longer leaders and break offs are usually at the knot connecting lure and not the connection knot.

The friend...
We all know that bass fishing is an expensive hobby but having a boat makes it even more expensive. Just be honest with your friend. If he is your real friend he will understand. I’m willing to spot people now and then especially if someone can’t really afford things but a guy that makes more money than me needs have his own stuff. Give him a week’s notice before the next trip out. Let him know that he needs to help on gas, have half of the launch fee, and bring his own tackle. You can’t go out on the water for 8 hours with a 5 pack of hooks and a pack of senkos. I fish tourneys as a coangler and I have buddies with boats that fish with. Tournament or not I make sure to have launch/gas money, offer drinks or snacks to bring, and have my own gear.

3700 or 3600
I only carry 3700s for lures and plastics. The 3700s I use for plastics have no dividers. I keep 3700 boxes item specific but when I fish tournaments as a co angler I can’t haul my whole arsenal so all of my boxes are mixed but organized. As long as you can locate everything you're good.

Braid knots slipping with heavy lures
Never had a not slip with straight braid but I did loose 3/4 ounce topwater when the braid snapped about 20 feet from the knot but I just think it was bad batch of line. It was 50# power pro. I was able to retrieve my lure with a chatterbait so it could of been worse.

what rod power for finesse fishing?
I am with you 100%. ML doesn’t have enough power in my opinion. Plus I barely go lighter than 1/4 ounce when drop shotting.

Anyone recommend a “budget friendly”pair of fishing glasses?
Coocoons will run you no more than 50. And they a big head friendly ?

Giant Bass
Luck is big part of bass fishing. My 2 biggest fish were caught on the Chatterbait and dropshot. But I caught so many small bass on those lures.

Drop shot for bass and crappie in Texas
I placed 3rd in a tournament drop shotting in stained water. Caught LMBs and small mouths. Go for it!

What’s your favorite rod and spinning reel?
Daiwa Ballistic LT 2500 with an Enigma HPT 6’11” medium. Used for dropshotting and I love it.

Losing fish when they jump
Just try to keep the pressure on them with the rod tip down to “minimize” the amount of bass you use. Bass jump and shake their heads when hooked. Ur gonna lose jumpers and non jumpers, just part of the game.

Thinking Avid X or Mojo Bass, concerns with braid and leader
I have an Avid X and I have no issues with 50# braid and 16# flouro leader. I used the Alberto knot.

Largemouth vs. Smallmouth
My hardest black bass fight to date was a 3 pound Smallie I caught out of the White River. I caught it out of 10 feet of water on casting gear with 15 pound flouro. It pulled harder than any largemouth I have ever hooked into. I thought it was at least a 6 pounder or atleast that is what I imagined a 6 pounder would feel like.

(Un)official Hoosiers Thread
Mississinewa was pretty dead. The crankbait bite was on for drum. Drums were attacking everything from jigs, crankbait, and chatterbaits.

Fishing tubes in the south?
I live Indiana and still haven’t caught anything on a tube. But they work well here. I think I read somewhere that Florida Strain LMB aren’t as aggressive as Northern Strain LMB. Maybe that could be a factor in some places.

(Un)official Hoosiers Thread
Appreciate it. Sounds like it’s about to be a tough one but that’s Indiana for you.

Was I in the wrong as a Coangler?
I get a lot of boaters that tell me not to cast behind the boat but throw toward the front. There reason for not throwing behind the boat is because snags are more likely to happen and they don’t want to waste time retrieving snags.
