  1. i still buy alot from tackle warehouse. the thing is i can usually get evrything i want in 1 order and be done with it. as long as its in stock but that is a problem everywhere. if i only need a few things i get them from susquehanna fishing tackle. they have a pretty good selection and deliver to me in 1 day. plus i like to support the local guys.
  2. absolute truth. i used mono for 30 years never knew it wasnt any good. started using fluoro i mean this is what all the pros use . it doesnt stretch, its invisible, its more sensitive, i mean this is the best stuff ever.i dont mind payingg for something if its actually better but i doubt it is.i just cant get over the thought in my mind that im missing something not using fluoro. i need to just spool up some trilene xt and use it for a whole year and forgt about it. but theres always this nagging thought in the back of my mind.
  3. so the recent thread on mono got me thinking.ive been using fluoro as leader material on my spinning rod which are spooled with braid. on casting rods i use all fluoro except my my topwater rig.ive had no real trouble with the flouro but its expensive. i also have some mccoy ultra clear which is half the price and performs well for me. main reason i use fluoro is because its supposedly has less stretch. (better hooksets more sensitive) but since some say fluoro stretches just as much id just use the mccoy all being equal. how wpuld you go about testing this without expensive equipment?
  4. in general ill use may same summertime trailers until the water gets below 65 then start to transition to more beaver style trailers with less action. but you still have to pay attention. if your noy getting bit and think you should switch to another style.
  5. same here.colors may get changed first and then maybe complete bait selections. some things never change except for weight and color. always have a jig on. always have a worm on. always have a ned on. rigging rods and thinking what i may use along with reviewing maps during the week or weeks between trips is part of the fun.
  6. im in PA also but fish mostly northern maryland. anyway the fish can be on the edges or buried in. its different every day and throughout the day. generally in low light you can fish faster baits on the edges. The more sun and less wind you get the more likely the fish are to be IN the grass, flip punch etc. also as always look for the greener healthier grass. also i dont find thet the fish really start to push baitfish hard until the water gets below 65 or so.
  7. exactly all of the lakes i fish have milfoil. this time of year if it starts to die the easiest way to tell what grass is holding fish is to look at the sonar and just look at the water to see baitfish activity. if there are baitfish there the bass are around somewhere,
  8. im in a 16 foot grizzly also although mine has custom aluminum decking with under deck storage etc. still no rod locker. when i fish by myself i take 8 to 10. definetley some redundancy but they stay on the back deck pretty much out of my way. i dont really need them all but i keep a wide variety of stuff tied on so i can pretty much grab and go.
  9. depending on the type of weeds i fish a ned rig on exposed head all the time. in healthy green, crisp milfoil or hydrilla you throw a light( 1/16 or 3/32) ned rig into the grass. now im not talking about topped out grass like you would flip but the submerged grass down to the weed line. anyway throw it in let it sink. it will hang in the grass but not bury because of the light weight. jiggle or snaap it free then let it sink again. repeat the process. this is nothing new northern anglers have been doing this with a light head and a 6 or 7 inch worm since the 70s probably longer.( google jig worm) i will say i like the big trd a little better for this. you can also swim a regular or big trd on a light head slightly above the grass ticking it once in a while. the bite usually comes as you free the jig and it sinks back.
  10. dont know how much you wanna spend but i would say pro angler 14 , jackson big rig there are some others. both of those could be motorized with electric motors if wanted.
  11. apparently after todays disaster i need to start using depth charges because i sucked today. only thing i could get them o eat was a weighted wacky senko in the grass. nothing over 2 pounds. im ready for 55 degree water and jerkbait and a rig bite.
  12. yeah thats september.things in a state of flux. catch 2 on a worm in 17 feet think your on something, no fish for 2 hours. catch 1 on a square bill in 5 feet. I don't understand? fish seem like they could be anywhere.
  13. funny how fish act a little differently in different parts of the country. our fish seem to start to bite later in the spring water temp wise than northern fish. i have a hell of a time in spring til the water gets about 55 to 58. i have some friends up north who catch them really good at 50
  14. i have 2 of the legend tournaments in the 610mlxf. usually have a drop shot on one and a ned on the other. im sure the elite would be even better.i used to use an alberto and it did fine, now use an fg and its like no knot at all and east to tie once you learn it.
  15. september is tough here. fish are spread out moving alot. loys of bait around. only thing ive really been able to put together is you gotta be around bait. if you dont see bait with your eyes or on your sonar you gotta move.
  16. thats funny ecause right around 50 around here is when the bite can get crazy. early fall september and half of october can be tough around here. when the water gets close to 60 the bites gets pretty good. but when it hits 55 things can get real interesting. problem for me is i like to bow hunt also. Like used to live for it. those cold nights and crisp days with turned leaves really pull me to get in the woods. but i know the bite can be great. ive lost most of my good farms over the years and am limited to 2 properties so that makes it easier to stary on the lake.
  17. yes they are that big and are pretty much just black to slightly olive.
  18. yeah its hard to tell bottom composition by looking at contours.now sometimes high spots will be hard because the water hasnt been able to wear the bottom away there. but thats just a guess. the contours will give you a place to start. something to look at. but youstill have to go over there idle around and look.
  19. good to know. i prefer owner anyway
  20. owner split rings and trebles would be my first move.sad to say but alot of factory lures these days come with garbage hardware.
  21. you have to be careful with trebles on some jerkbaits if they are too heavy they will mess up the suspending. i use the aaron martens nano gamagatsu. the st-36 may work fine but i cant say for sure.
  22. i like the dredgers.pretty small for their rated depth. rapala dt 16 seems pretty compact to me too.
  23. i love jerk baits. fish a ton of different ones. what im gonna say is my opinion, dont take it as fact just what i have found works for me. my favorite hands down is the jackal rerange. that thing just flat out catches them. dou also makes a good bait as does lucky craft.rapala shadow rap is good and the xrap works well when fished more aggressively in warmer water.the only time i see a big advantage in the megabass is in the lower range of water temps. for me thats say 45 tp 50. in that range the more refined subtle action of the vision seems to make a difference. when im say 53 degrees up i will just experiment with any of the other baits to see which seems to work best that day.
  24. id go with the 7ft or so medium victory. what can you tell me about the dropshot model. i know you own one. i need a dropshot rod with a little more backbone than some because at times i will texas rig a small worm with a rebarb hook. one of our strong patterns here is fishing a dropshot on deep grass edges.
  25. idk, i got a few bags this winter. ive used them and xzone slammers alot this summer i cant say the flatworms have been much better for me than the slammer with some garlic crawfish procure smeared on them.
