  1. victory is a good suggestion, ill also add the shimano zodias 7" 5' heavy
  2. 12 or 14 pound sunline sniper. our lakes are fairly clear but do have grass so the 14 pound is fine but i dont wanna go heavier. also sun line is a little thinner diameter than some lines.
  3. ordered a couple times this year, shipping was 3 or 4 days. im on the east coast.
  4. i think most people who have been doing thi a while develop that sense. half the time i set the hook on a worm, jig, ned whatever i dont even realize im doing it until its done. its like a reflex before the thought even enters your head the slack is taken up and your driving the hook home. then you think how did i know i had a bite? i love it when i get that distinct TAP. but those times are rare mostly its just some kind of unexplainable feeling, or lack of feeling.
  5. i use the 10 inch power worm and zoom old monster. the bps worms are probably fine. let them have it for a couple secinds before you set the hook, but not too long you dont wanna gut hook them, also dont be surprised when you catch 10-12 inch bass on them.
  6. i have 21 combos, now that includes 3 fly rods for trout. i normally take 10 rods on the boat 5 on the kayak. some of those combos only get used a few times a year. like my light panfish stuff in spring for crappie and bluegill for a fish fry. or my rod that i use for big swimbaits and a rigs. yup alot of rods some get used all the time others rarely, i got my eye on a couple to add this winter though. lol most rods are in he 200 to 300 dollar range most reels about 150 -200. i dont think the super high dollar rods and reels are worth the extra expense , but i dont like the feel of the low end stuff either.
  7. if your fishing big jigs great. i use mine for 1/2 plus jigs 10 inch worms on a heavy sinker 3/8 or so.light flipping , football jigs carolina rig a rig. useful rod.
  8. owner ultra head. grande bass air tail wiggler. worm stands straight up. color varies depending on water and light conditions.
  9. 2 of the lakes i fish have both LM and SM. the LM outnumber the SM but they are frequently caught. both lakes are deep and clear but have grass out to about 20ft. the dropshot will catch both and very effectively. when im using a 4 inch or smaller bait i usually noes hook with a gamakatsu drop shot hook. if im fishing in grass ill use the roboworm rebarb or owner cover shot and rig weedless. another lake has 90%LM and i still drop shot there, usually a 6 inch roboworm on the weedless hook around grass and on brushpiles very effective.
  10. i rarely use the little one anymore either. i use the big one with an outkast head . in grass i use the nonweedless because i want it to lightly hang in the grass then i pop it off. in rocks or wood i use the weedless head. sometimes i cut of a little of the top of the big one. you still catch small fish but you also seem to get more bites from bigger fish.
  11. idk. i guess its just me. ive been using spinning rods for 35 years for light stuff. have no problem with it, enjoy it and catch alot of fish on it. whats the point. not criticizing just saying no reason for me to switch. just something different to play with i guess.
  12. alot of it depends where you live, not alot of small sneaky spots around here. there are a few and i fish them with my kayak. my boat is indespensible for me on lakes around here.now on the river my kayak is the machine, when the water gets low in the summer i can fish all kinds of places others cant. unless you wanna invest 40k in a jet boat just for the river. for me it just depends on the time and place.

so your fishing in a river correct? cast quartering upstream, retrieve down and across. also too much weight will cause alot of hang ups. you want enough weight for the tube to tick bottom as it drifts downstream and you pick up slack but not so much that it crashes to the bottom like an anchor.
  14. yes i believe its more about where your fishing than what your using. smallmouthe are probably in a little deeper water on some form of cover. probably gravel or rocks,
  15. yeah ive started to approach fishing like i do hunting. i used to just find things as i cam upon them . now i actually set aside a couple hours a trip to look for things in areas i find on my map. sometimes i go to the lake for a couple hours after work just to look. dont even fish. just like scouting for bow hunting.
  16. hmm. guess it depends on where you are. the smallies i fish for seem to like to eat at dusk but once its dark their done.funny thing about smallmouth here is they like to bite in the sun. largemouth love cloudy drizzly days. smallmouth lie the sun. now they may be 30 feet deep but they still seem to prefer sun.
  17. susquehanna is improving, floods of 2016 did a number on it and its not where it was but alot of young fish being caught.
  18. we need to know where your fishing and from bank or boat. summer can be tough. usually on larger bodies of water its not what your throwing but where your throwing it. bass can be very concentrated this time of year which leaves alot of dead water.
  19. you could anchor, sometimes i anchor when im fishing in my kayak for river smallmouth. however when your fighting the fish be aware of where the rope is. ive had more than one big smallie get around the rope get the hook stuck in it and get off.
  20. as someone else said invisx and sniper are pretty hard to beat for being manageable , strong , abrasion resistant and fairly priced.
  21. the d shad is the heaviest of those baits, followed by the caffiene shad then the googan. I fish them down to about 6 foot after that i like a 1/16 belly weighted hook. the 3/32 will work too though im sure.

they work really well . smallmouth really love them. just be careful the hook is a little light. fish them on fluorocarbon with a lighter rod and back your drag off a little.
  23. i have 2 legend tournament drop shot rods the 6 foot 10 inch ones. i fish them a ton and like them alot. im sure a glx or nrx would be even a little better. i personaly would go glx because i dont like the nrx guides but thats me.the legend extreme drop shot rod is great too but im not paying over 300 for a rod. just have too many and dont feel like the return for the money is that great.
  24. exactly. this is what alot of guys dont get about ned fishing. especially in grass. you dont throw it in areas that you would go flipping. but you can fish the edges. the key is to use a light head that doesnt bury in the grass. the 1/16 oz head will snag in the grass a little but a quick pop of the line frees it. thats also when alot of bites come as it pops off the grass and slowly falls.
