  1. Another vote for the St Croix Mojo. I would also add that given the way your planning to use this rod I would stay away from anything with micro guides. These will rob you of feel
  2. Guess I am more fortunate that I realize. There really isn't an off season here in Texas
  3. I love fishing crank baits and always have at least one tied on. I tend to use them as a search bait primarily but will put it down if I can not get them to run through the vegetation without fouling up. If that is the case I just switch to Texas rigged 7" culprit worm, it is slower but very effective
  4. I like the strike King KVD buzz baits especially when I find them on sale
  5. Another vote for the Terminator T1. However, you can buy good spinnerbaits (strike King/war eagle/boo yah) significantly cheaper
  6. Not sure if it's my worst miss ever but had a really poor outing last night after work. Fished several smaller lakes around my home using a black/blue 1/4 oz jig with matched crawfish trailer. Conditions were overcast and 66 degrees with yet another front moving our way. Water stained to muddy due to all of the recent rains but the bass were up and more active than they had been in last 2 wks fished 2 hours and got bit 6 x but could hook up with any of the fish. Very frustrating but it at least lets me know I am on the right track
  7. Definitely one of my weaker skill sets but my preferences are the Rapala Husky Jerk Bomber Long A Smithwick Rattling Rouge
  8. Bandit 100 series cranks are a long time favorite of mine but seem to have been replaced by bagleys honey b. I do find balsa wood lures to be superior to the plastic bandits but in their defense they never stopped catching fish
  9. Usually try not to provoke others but there are times in the past when I have seen others throw something on the ground when a trash can was only a few feet away. Most of the local waters I fish seem to stay fairly clean of general rubbish but I constantly see others discard old line from birds nests or worn out plastics onto the ground. That's when I try to come by and pick it up for them. Usually, with some sort of off hand comment about being part of a local bass club that is trying to get and keep the area cleaned up. Who knows maybe it plants a seed.
  10. Kinda suspected that but I do appreciate the confirmation
  11. You guys are killing me. I have determined to become a better jig fisherman this year and have been disappointed in commercial models available to me. So my question is how much would I need to spend to get started with making my own jigs (1/4 oz to 3/8 oz swimming jigs with living rubber skirts)
  12. Tough question but I would have to say the Jitterbug followed very closely by buzz bait and rebels pop-r.
  13. 8.27#'s out of local pond in my sub-division using culprit 7.5" red shad curly tail worm sorry no picture definitely was not expecting to catch that fish there.
  14. Fished one of these this weekend. Better rod than just about anything available at that price point imo
  15. If I am fishing mono you can bet it's trilene XL
  16. Gotta love those shallow running cranks. They just seem to produce whenever I tie one on. My preferred lures are: Bandit 100 series Poes RC1 Manns baby 1 minus Bagleys Honey B Bomber square bill Mod A Rebel bluegill
  17. I personally have 5 rod & reel combos: 1) spinnerbaits 2) lipless crankbait 3) jig & pig 4) plastic worm 5) tube bait but usually limit myself to 2-3 rigs on any given outing excluding tournaments. Hey time is money...right
  18. Blackhawk83 replied to Jeff H's topic in Fishing Tackle
Love the killer b and honey b lures
  19. Can't say that I have ever used a trailer hook on a Spinnerbait but I have experienced several short strikes while fishing a buzz bait
  20. Recent loss of four prized crank baits has forced me to realize I can not really afford to be without a lure retriever. Just wanted to get some input from you guys as to whether or not I should just buy one of the commercially made models ( if so which one) or look at making my own. Any input or suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated. Oh almost forgot I do almost all of my fishing from the banks or a sit on top kayak on the private ponds on my land or the nearby golf course
  21. Mann baby 1 minus, bandit 100 series cranks, and bagleys balsa cranks
  22. Found two Bandit series 200 crank baits one beetle spin and 1/2 dozen or so white plastic lizards while walking a rocky jetty last weekend.
  23. 7" Culprit or zoom worms have always proven reliable for me
  24. Conditions here in my part of Texas can vary significantly from one day to the next and this tends t guide my lure selection. I find I can usually depend on downsized spinnerbaits, lipless crank baits, tube baits, and the old reliable jig and pig
  25. Blue/Chrome in Clearwater conditions. Gold/Black in stained to murky water. I have also found that 1/4 oz lures are better in Clearwater but 1/2 oz work well as clarity decreases
