  1. Thank you all for the kind words. I began this year with the goal to catch 365 bass. I am slightly behind that target but it is still achievable.
  2. It wasn't big but it was number 300. I live in Loxahatchee, FL and work in Deerfield Beach and am able to fish for an hour during my lunch break most days. This is my first year of keeping a detailed fishing record so I am able to know exactly how many bass I land. The breakdown for this year follows: <1 lb 262 Bass 1 - 2 lbs 27 Bass 2 - 3 lbs 6 Bass 3 - 4 lbs 3 Bass 4 - 5 lbs 1 Bass 7 - 8 lbs 1 Bass Maybe next year I will learn to catch greater numbers of bigger fish, but for right now I am having a blast chasing these little guys around.
  3. You could look at wind speed and direction as a function of the speed of lure fall for common plastics with varied slip weights. I am certain I get more hits on the fall when fishing a cross-wind than during a head or tail wind due to this effect.
  4. I had a 53 week stretch in between jobs in 2012-2013 and fishing my neighborhood pond is the only thing that kept me sane. I can count the number of days I didn't fish during that time on my fingers with several to spare. Now that I have rejoined the work force, I fish Monday-Friday during my lunch hour and usually once on the weekend.
  5. No pictures? When I caught my 7-4 PB earlier this year I nearly maxed out the memory on my phone with photos. Congrats!!
  6. My wife and kids left yesterday. I have work requirements keeping me in Florida today, but will be watching this storm closely for the next 48 hours. I have grown up in the southeast and weathered many bad storms, but this one has teeth and got me nervous.
  7. The Suwannee River is a long way from where I fish. I am kicking myself now for not taking a picture.
  8. Fishing yesterday during my lunch hour I only got one bite which turned out to be a 10" small mouth bass. I did not know we had smallies down here. I was fishing with two colleagues, both from New Jersey who were absolutely certain what this fish was. This fish was caught in Deerfield Beach, FL. Has anyone else caught small mouth bass this far south? I should have taken a picture but it was about a million degrees outside and was sweating too badly to fool with a camera.
  9. My PB @ 7-4 fought exactly like this. She never jumped and barely pulled drag, it felt like I was reeling in a tire.
  10. What have you done to keep the fishing gods happy? I keep an alter at my desk with an offering cup. Whenever I have loose change in my pocket it goes to the alter. Just remember to NEVER take the money back out. Anyone who has seen the movie Major League knows it is very bad to steal Jobu's rum. Its only weird if it doesn't work.
  11. Thank You, I will definitely check it out.
  12. Which water near Atlantic and Sawgrass? Is it accessible to the public or only residents? I work in Deerfield Beach and am always looking for new water. I bank fish Quiet Waters, Crystal Lake and Sailboat Lake frequently during my lunch hour.
  13. I would love to find a pond full of bass with the munchies. Good Times!
  14. You do not have to spend a lot of money to catch bass. I work for a living and have a wife and three kids who are constantly in my wallet so there isn't any money left over to feed my fishing addiction. I buy stick bait seconds for $5/pound and fish with hooks which cost $0.99 for 5. My rods and reels came from Walmart and I string them with the cheapest mono-filament I can find. Today I landed bass number 234 for the year and my PB is 7-4. Learn how to fish, not how to shop and have fun!
  15. In south Florida they must be all laid out on the beach working on their tans because they don't seem to be biting my lures.
  16. I fished for an hour just before the eclipse began and landed one just over a pound. Had a few small bumps but couldn't get a hook in any of them. Went for another hour today and caught six all under a pound.
  17. I used to kiss bass but my wife began getting jealous so now I just pet them on the head and send them on their way.
  18. The simplest solution to avoid getting skunked is to move to South Florida! The bank bass fishing opportunities here are world class. I fish for at least an hour nearly everyday and landed bass number 225 for the year yesterday. I can count the number of times I get skunked on my fingers with several left over. A 4" Senko, Texas-rigged with a 3/16 oz bullet weight on 8 - 12 lb mono fished very slow seems to catch everything in the water. I also suggest keeping a fishing log and recording air and water temp, wind speed and direction, barometric pressure, moon phase, location, lures used and size and numbers of what you catch. After a while you will begin seeing patterns for the different locations you fish and be able to predict success or failure.
  19. In this case I would ask Guido where they are and what are they biting.
  20. You and about 40% of the people playing. He must still be hung over from last week's win.
  21. What a difference a week makes. Is anyone else shocked to see KVD near the bottom? I had a hunch and dropped him for Palaniuk, so far its looking like a good move.
  22. I think I am going to let my kids pick this week. They can't do any worse than me.
  23. For shear numbers of bass it is hard to beat a 4" Senko, Texas rigged with 1/8 - 3/16oz bullet weight and a 2/0 offset worm hook. Fish so slow it is painful. This setup will catch bass as small as 4oz and the big girls.
  24. Bobby Lane stunk it up this week. I picked a bad tourney to pick him over KVD. The rest of my team has a shot at making the cut.
  25. I drive this road nearly every day during my compute from Loxahatchee to Deerfield Beach. I have seen many bucket fishermen but only a very few targeting bass. I stopped once after an argument with my wife so was in no hurry to get home, but the only thing biting that day were the sand gnats. I am certain that canal holds quality bass, if you find a hot spot please post it here.
