A lot of time reading the wind is weather related. Ever hear the saying…”Wind from the west, fish bite the best. Wind from the east, fish bite the least”? That’s more of a correlation between wind and weather factors that spur feeding. And yeah, make sure you look at it from a safety perspective as well. ?

The vid with Ike was on the Potomac. That river has the most rude fishermen I have ever seen. It’s commonplace to come in on you and you have to know how to protect the area you are fishing. That being said, I have had run ins with fishermen in an open bow ski boat just drifting and fishing, that would have hit us if we didn’t move. Their response…”you guys have a trolling motor, I don’t”. Likewise, we were on good fish in a bay on St Clair and there was a kayak tournament. Unfortunately the fish we had found were in somewhat shallow and every time we hooked up, we got swarmed by kayaks. Some even followed us everywhere we went in that bay. Common courtesy isn’t that common anymore.

Will it work? Sure. Same with using a jig as your dropshot weight essentially giving you 2 lures in one. St Clair guys have been throwing Double Fluke rigs for years. Me personally, I don’t like losing a lot of baits and have never had a problem with a straight dropshot. One peanut smallie on that treble hook setup will lose you 3 flukes. I guaranttee.??

Define “Best Angler”……most fish? Biggest fish? And why does making it harder (limited hp, limited technology) make it easier to identify the “Best” angler? If you are trying to level the playing field you are taking away the advantage that makes someone better. You’ll never be able to identify who the best angler is because it will always be changing. Do you take into consideration off the water issues like helping kids and charity’s? I would think that is part of who the best is. Do you consider someone who promotes the sport and is a role model sportsman? I’m not trying to complicate a fun post but I think the goalposts will always be moving on who is the “Best”. Whoever wins the Classic is the best for that tournament. It has been said that AOY is a better reflection. My point being you’re going to have a hard time nailing it down in a series of tournaments.

Daily vs special treat. Daily, Tim Horton’s. Not cheap but also not as expensive as some of the premium brands. Used to only be able to get it when we went north to Michigan, now Wegmans and Amazon carry it. Just have to pay attention to pricing. I’ve had real Kona many times but one of the best cups I ever had was from a Tim Horton’s franchise store on our way to the lake in Michigan one year. I’ve been chasing that cup ever since. I make it good at home but I’ve never been able to duplicate what that cup tasted like.??

I just can’t believe that women in fishing is still an issue. Can women fish as well or better than men? Of course! Was the way BASS treated the women wrong? ABSOFREAKINGLUTELY! I wait for the day a lady bass angler wins an open or gets into the Elites, or wins the classic. I used to laugh when I guided a husband/wife because I knew that 75% of the time the wife was going to outfish the husband. Why? Because they actually listened to what I was telling them.?. I know a couple of ladies who fish tournaments on more than just the local circuit. Wish them all the luck in the world.

My favorite senko rod is a CastAway Skeleton with Wynn grips. It’s probably 10 years old and it never peeled but I did wear it out. Actually wore through it.

Vehicles exceeded my skill level years ago. I can top off fluids and have in the past done a lot of wrenching (clutch, alternator, water pump, change the oil, air filter, oil filter, etc.) on my 1993 Jeep Wrangler but with the truck, I let the shop handle it. With my 2004, 3/4 ton Silverado I had free oil changes for life and with my 2016, I just used my last free negotiated oil change. Something that slipped by me on my 2004 was that you need to bleed and refill your brake fluid. My brake lines rusted out from the inside out and it almost put my truck in the Potomac river. I do have a friend who is very mechanical and we do brakes and other easy maintenance.

Understood. Most repair places have axles for those they can't repair. Or at least have access to them. I think it would be worth giving them a call.

My only other suggestion would be to call a trailer shop. You may have to go with a different manufacturer of axle but as long as the weight rating is the same or better, you should be ok.

If I’m not mistaken, most COVID strains are naturally occurring in nature. It’s when man comes in and alters it to be transmissible from animals to humans (gain of function) that it becomes dangerous.

Normally, the hotter the water the deeper they will go except during sun up, sun down, and night fishing.

Kids on my guide trips were the absolute hardest but could also be the most rewarding. Big consideration is their age and if they can cast. But…..generally, I always rigged kids up with push button casting rigs with a slip bobber and a small grub or tube on a 1/16oz jig head. The float gives them something to concentrate on and will catch everything from panfish to crappie and bass.

I have never found light levels to be a determining factor for tail action. The fish tell me if they want a moving tail like a Yamamoto cut tail worm or Cali Roll as opposed to a Senko or Pro Senko which both have straight tails.

Congrats. If I were buying one brand spanking new off the showroom floor and planned on keeping it for a long time, I would spend the extra $$ and take it directly to a professional ceramic coating applicator. I am anal about that though.
