Anyone use a handheld GPS?
I was thinking of getting one of these for marking deep water spots in my local lake, and maybe some hunting spots. Can anyone recommend a good unit for my needs. I don't really want to spend that much...like $150 probably. Thanks

answer to bill dance fishing quiz??
All of you are wrong. The correct answer is E - None of the above. Studies show that a bass's favorite meal over all others is the Dancin' Eel - Available at all fine retailers.

Deep Water Jig N Pig Smallies
From what I hear...the way to catch them on my local res. in the summer is to fish 30' water with slow, bottom baits like worms and J&P. Does anyone have success this way with the J&P? If so, what size, color would you recommend? Do you prefer pork or plastic trailer? I'd like to give this a shot....or maybe I should just stick w./ the trusy ol' tube. :

YAMAMOTO VS OTHERS (soft plastic)
Thats real nice....haven't tried those but they look good on the web site (cool colors). When they had the spring sale, I got some of the BPS stik-o for real cheap ($3.33 per 20)...and they have been catching them real well rigged wacky. That style of rigging tends to get shook off the hook on every fish, so going through them is kind of easy. So far the stik-o has been a good alternative..and 1/3 the price of Yammies, its not too bad.

YAMAMOTO VS OTHERS (soft plastic)
Just to clarify to this gentleman....you can afford GYCB, in fact you pay more for its cousin KINAMI, as you said in your first thread. See below - prices quoted from the Bass Pro website for 4 and 5 inch baits. GYCB Senko $5.99 10 per bag 60 cents each KINAMI Flash $4.49 7 per bag 65 cents each

Rebel Crawfish
Yes!....Great bait. As said, they will catch ANYthing in a river.
-
Grass Mat Baits
Ditto on the buzzin grub...weightless and texposed - good stuff Pretty much any weightless plastic will work....grubs/worms are more weed resistant cause of the sreamlined body.

When should I go to Canada for Smallies??
If I take a week vacation in 2008 for smallies up in Canada (Georgian Bay Area) What would be the best time of year to go? I'd rather be catching quality fish than huge numbers, and I'd like to get into some pike/musky as well. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks

Heddon Spit'n Image
I like the Spit N' Image......but found a new favorite walk the dog bait in the Sammy 100 by Lucky Craft. Its soooo easy to work, and looks sweet, bass love it too. Worth the extra $ and you shouldn't lose it.

Tubes
I rig with a 1/8 oz. weedless insert head....use it everywhere (mimics minnows and crayfish) Dark colors in Green and Brown tones...No real wrong way to fish, but do it slowly imitating bait. You will get snagged A LOT...but the snag rate goes down after you get the hang of it. Tubes are great baits. Good Luck

Case Plastics
Yes been using Case Plastics for a while now....they work well. I mainly use the minnow, and jacks worm. Good luck w/ your new baits!

Man competing in fishing tournament shot by fisher
Spot - I don't think I ever mentioned anything about the south, or any other region of the country. I took the sherrifs quote as defending the guys actions....the word "just" in his quote is what does it. It sounds like the sherrif thinks its no big deal. Thats the point I was making....I do know the story of the Wisconsin hunters that were shot...thats a very tragic and sad story. What happened was a man (the murderer) was trespassing on THEIR property and sitting in their stand. When the legit hunters confronted the man, they got into a verbal arguement that led to the guy killing several people, including people coming to help their family members (shooting people in the back, multiple times). I guess it all comes down to crazy people doing stupid, irrational things....look at the VA tech thing.

Man competing in fishing tournament shot by fisher
Man you gotta love the how Town Sherrif defends the guy saying "He was just trying to warn (them) away from the fishing lines" That is some modern day Dukes of Hazzard type stuff there. If everyone used that logic, there would be a whole bunch of dead fisherman. Hopefully it was just some crazy old feller who had a flashback of when he used to scare people away from his bootleg moonshine** during prohibition. Crazy Stuff....glad no-one got seriously hurt, which could have easily happened. I don't really see how this guy shouldn't get charged with attempted murder.... **Nothing against moonshine

Installing a bilge system....questions
I have a 16 ft tracker grizzly jon boat. I'd like to install some type off bilge system just in case. It is an electric only boat, with 2 batts in the rear of the boat for the transom TM. I've seen 2 kinds in the store - automatic, and non-automatic. What type should I get? Also, installation instructions would be great. Last thing...is there any way to do this without drilling a hole in my boat for the discharge hose?

Rapala Super Shad Rap - anyone use?
Grabbed one of these yesterday - They look like they should catch some stripers and big large/smallmouth. 5.75 inches and 1 5/8 oz. and dive 5-9 ft. Looking to give em a shot this weekend...just wondering if anyone has had success with them?

im new to small mouth fishing
I'd start out with some baits that will for sure catch fish (quantity), then branch out from there and start focusing on quality. Here are my suggestions for quantity: -3'' or so grubs on 1/8 oz jighead...med/slow retrieve -small crankbaits (shad or crawdad colored) -soft jerkbaits/sticks like a fluke or senko -small topwaters - torpedo, buzzbaits That should do the trick on a lake or river. In the lakes you may have to focus on deeper water if its summertime. Also tubes are crucial, but are an aquired taste and can be frustrating at first (snags a plenty!)....work like a charm though Good Luck!
