  1. In the early 80s, Penn the SS series was the standard for surf fishing. Ten years later, no one bought one and few people luges them into the water any longer.
  2. Pens difficulty was the same as Chrysler Motors of the 70’s. Failure to conform from heavy metal to light weight plastic. Their reels were 5-6 ounces heavier resultantly per model weight. Their ability to platform and engineer a new reel model became too long or not existent. By the time they woke up twenty years hence, they had lost the entire salt water market.

Ditto for me as well. I attribute to the temperature cooling change. I bank fish. I noticed a lot of algae coverage is gone in close, and pads are sparser, the dragon flies in close are absent. So I assume they have moved off the banks. Time to gravitate to Spinner baits and some cranks. Not a sniff on last two tries.
  4. Berkley Lightning Rod Shock and Daiwa Aird X are my two value rods of choice. these are both good recommendations by beer buzz. I have both. I use the Aird for small jigs and Shock for expanded application. Both deliver value for their price range.
  5. Yep, bested by sprayed grass which has been killer in Jersey
  6. Little Cleo - hammered blue/nickel when shad are busting.
  7. Whenever the shad are busting I go to a hammered blue/silver Little Cleo. You can knock out a dozen LMB in an hour under those conditions.
  8. When I fish a trick worm I swim it a couple of cranks and drop on a semi slack line. On stick baits it's more of a slow lift, drop on slack line, wait ten seconds, twitch then repeat. Water still cold think slow till your sure they are starting to stage for the ritual.
  9. My number one color in BPS Stiko worm. Caught more bass on this color in 2017 than everything else put together. This year I bought that color pattern in every type worm.
  10. I usually pick one side of the lake and start with 6-8 targets. Fish them very thoroughly. I usually bring two baits in several colors ie Senko and Ned rig. After I fish them all, I usually fish them again especially the ones where I scored. I mostly bank fish, so that cuts way down on what I carry and the days game plan.
  11. I bank fish a lot and here in Jersey we are muck bottom and 4-5 ' deep(PIA). In the last two days me and a bud caught 28 bass. We been using Rapala rippin rap 5. They weigh 5/16 oz. as others said keep tip high, engage on impact, slow pump yo yo. They usually hit on the drop. This is a two inch bait with tight wiggle that casts a long way. Bass can't hack it. Good luck

Fish what u have confidence in. I caught a ton of fish last year on BPS Stiko. This year I am trying hand pour worms made for me and Stiko. You can get some guys to make what you want for $3-$5/bag. That's the fun, trying new things.
  13. My 2c is that the water is still too cold for them to expend the necessary energy to chase down the lure. So I target crappie. Another five degrees in next thirty days and all hec will break loose.
  14. I usually combine several colors of the same worm and soft plastic in one bag. I put two spare hooks in the bag.Put two packs in the pocket with a Swiss army and nail clipper and I'm good for 3-4 hours with one rod.
  15. Went to another Wallys and found some Eagle Claw Blue label. Bought last three packs 3/0 EWG and round bend $2.44 ea. Worth a shot, thanks for your opinions.
  16. Any success. What size stick bait do u use and what size blade. Jersey lakes typically <6'
  17. This time of year I like to throw a marabou jig under a float. I was wondering why I want reaching the far bank and chalked it up to fishing less this year. My Bud noticed and said "did you notice they reduced the lead amount at the bottom of float"? They aren't worth a d**n to me now. I mean we are talking lead here, why?
  18. Went to three Wallys in my area in Jarsey. Not a Gammy to be found. DSG wants an arm. Being winter I'll just wait for a sale to stock up on worm hooks. $1/ worm hook, guess I'm getting old.
  19. I have a 6'6" L/F Microlite with a Pflueger President or if u want a faster retrieve, try the Daiwa RGAB 2500
  20. I needed a Senko Rod so I bit on this: Wright & McGill Skeet Reese Performance Series Spinning Rod $49.98 $49.98 1 $49.98 Rod Length: 7'0" Action: Fast $30 off. Any opinions?
  21. If it's breaking at the connection, Make sure your connection knot is tight and pure when drawn. I have only had one break in four years using uni to uni knot.
  22. Throw a Little Cleo into busting shad. GAme on!
  23. When the bass are busting shad I clean up with a hammered blue and silver Little Cleo.
  24. The panfish usually aniline the worm first but get yourself a bucket of shiners and go to town.
