  1. Love the pass interference penalty.
  2. Drove about 80 miles south to a lake I fish several times a year. It's a huge numbers lake in the fall, but yesterday the water temps were still 59-60 and the baitfish were still off the shore in the main lake. I fished the wind and was blessed to catch 13 LM, a striper, and an accidental crappie. The best was this 5lb 3oz on a lipless crankbait on a rocky, wind-blown bank*. *I don't lay fish down. She darn near laid herself down really hard but I got control of her just as she was going down. Her tail was already on the carpet so I took this pic to show her fat belly. She's going to get fatter for the next few weeks.
  3. ^^^What Tom said!!!^^^ I fish lakes where 9lb bass are caught annually. If you are catching 1lb-ers and having a good time, keep slinging. If you are tired of the 1lb-ers, you'll have to move. Maybe just a bit deeper or 15 yards down the bank, but they aren't hanging out together.
  4. If I were commish for a day I'd definitely pull the plug on the international games. Too hard on the teams/players that have to adjust/readjust from flying halfway around the world. I don't care about the halftime shows. @Glennis spot on about fixing the broken rulebook. I appreciate what they are trying to accomplish, like player safety and making the game more competitive, but it's way off the rails right now. They are experimenting and they shouldn't be. They need to find a league to try out their ideas and then bring the ones that work to the NFL. That's not happening. Every stupid idea goes in the books based on "It sounds like a good idea".
  5. Sir, that football is dangerously over-inflated! Congrats, that's epic.
  6. I lost an Alabama rig on the third cast. It keeps me awake at night. It was ten years ago.
  7. Big fan of Oktoberfests and Scotch Ales. I'm already looking at local stores online for this. Thanks for the tip.
  8. It's ALMOST fall fishing. Caught 17 LM and 5 stripers in five hours of fishing today. The baitfish are still in "deep" water in the middle of creek channels. The striper are slaying the baitfish and it's a blast to watch, but tough to catch them as they fly at light speed through the cloud of baitfish in 10+ feet of water. I caught five in the shallows but in a couple weeks all (baitfish, LM and striper) will be in the shallows and it will be game on.
  9. The wife and I agree that those are both outstanding. Not only is the 1920 a good sipper, I feel like it's a more versatile mixer for things like old fashioneds and whisky sours. Also, we can buy it at almost any grocery store or gas station around here.
  10. Knob Creek 12yr Old Forester 1920 Woodford Reserve (store pick from somewhere) Smokewagon straight bourbon Michter's rye Runners up: Jameson Plantation 5yr rum Penelope Barrel Strength These are all readily available in our area and we try to never run out.
  11. Congratulations on discovering bass fishing! You'll learn a tremendous amount on these forums. I'm sorry that you're about to meet the bait monkey. Maybe start looking for a second job tomorrow. Or tonight.

  13. No single piece of equipment has changed fishing for me like this piece of equipment. There's nothing even close. In fact, there are only two other things that have done more for my ability to catch fish than the Ultrex: 1. Time on the water (lots, and lots, and lots, of MAKING time to fish) 2. Bass Resource forums. It is direct access to everyone else's experience on top of my own. 3. Ultrex Take everything else away and I'll keep these three and fish with a tree branch and a string.
  14. I'm going to bring up @Siebert Outdoors again. Certainly not the selection of larger online retailers, but the stuff that he does sell is at the best prices and, if on sale, by a long margin. The stuff that he makes himself or sells exclusively is the highest quality stuff I have in my boat. His tungsten weights are the best available anywhere. I own no bladed jigs other than Fogys. I do throw Strike King jigs from Walmart when I know I've got a good chance of losing the jig but only because I don't want to lose my Siebert jigs. I can't buy rods from him, but if he has something that I'm looking for, it's my first place to go. I stock up on his stuff once or twice a year. THEN I go find the other stuff I need.
  15. Outstanding! Nice work on the rehab. Keep it up! We will all be praying for you to recover completely and stay strong along the way.
  16. Sign me up as your co-angler. I have absolutely no problem dealing with "confrontations". I'm not suggesting that I cause problems or act out. 28 years as a police officer and the past 6 years working full time as the firearms training coordinator for a police academy has taught me the ways of the Jedi in dealing with threatening ultra-Karens. You fish and I'll watch your six. 😎
  17. Elijah Craig does an outstanding job with their private barrels in using high proof to bring out flavor rather than crush the flavor in a wave of heat. We have several bottles of E.C. barrel proof and private barrels that are 128 - 131 proof and they don't drink like it at all.
  18. It sounds like you are doing the right thing. Throw it, crank it down to the bottom, smack something and freeze. Then crank again until you smack something. This helps to prevent hang-ups, but more importantly this pause is when 90% of your bites will happen as @Glenn said. I think you're saying you are sweeping the rod to run the crank? I reel it down fast until it hits, pause, reel slowly to keep it bouncing, pause, reel, pause, you get it. You can run a 25ft crankbait in 6ft of water if you want to. It's just more pausing and much slower reeling than if you were in 20ft of water. On one of my home lakes a go-to in the summer with some wind blowing is throwing a 15ft crankbait on rocky points in about 8-9ft of water. I can really load the boat if the conditions are right. They always hit it on the pause.
  19. Father of the Shelby Daytona. Those are great stories, man. What a blessing!
  20. Oh my gosh, that's just outstanding. And I can see the rear quarter of his 1969 Torino Talladega on the left. I would have lost my mind and probably gone to jail for sitting in it without permission. While making extremely loud engine noises.
