- Finesse Jig rod?

What do you use your glx 852c for
I picked up one late last season and only got to fish it a couple of short days? Wondering what everyone throws on there 852c and what’s there favorite?

My next setup...what to get?
Well you can double down on a few things but you want to narrow it down on which style of fishing you want to focus on next. - crankbaits, topwater rod can be double down (treble hooks, spooks, and such) - flipping stick, frog rod, heavy jig rod can be thrown on one rod (not ideal but will work) - jig rod, bottom contact rod - senko, drop shot, shakey head, flukes and such

My next setup...what to get?
Well if your planning on getting 5 combo’s you should narrow down what you think you need first. What your 6’6 will cover and get a more specific rod for this one. A jig rod, a flipping rod, frog rod, crank rod, dropshot rod it’s endless. Sure you can get 1 rod to cover a few bases but still need to narrow it down to a few techniques

New Senko Setup
Most likely but I’ve never fished the avid. Right now my most recent main purpose senko/finesse rod is a glx 852c (7’1” medium extra fast) and I prefer throwing weightless t-rigged senkos over wacky style. But I’ve noticed on almost half the fish I’ve caught on it, it doesn’t drive the hook like some other rods I’ve fished. As far as wacky style (smaller hook) it’s deadly! I’m going try again next season but most likely I’ll be picking up a medium heavy for weightless t-rigged senko’s. Early this season I was using a 7’ medium heavy kistler helium and it was wicked for senko’s, loaded up great, and plenty of back bone and that’s the reason I’ll probsbly grab a glx or nrx 893c for my weightless-1/8oz weighted t-rigged senko’s

New Senko Setup
The avid x. Still super light, very sensitive, but it drives those hooks on a Texas rigged senko better

$300 to spend on a new Jig/Texas Rig rod......
If it were me I’d probably look at a glx either in the mbr or jwr series. An 843c mbr is suppose to be a wicked stick and the 853 or 854 in the jwr would probably pair up nicely for you as well. kistler is a company I only have 1 rod from, an older rod but it’s great! I’d love to try a new H3 but there hard to find in Canada

Spinning reel for river smallmouth
I’ve always been a 2500 size reel guy. As far as price point I’d say look at the daiwa bg, fuego, or the shimano nasci. I personally own the nasci and it is a wicked reel for the money! Where abouts in ontario?

New Senko Setup
I actually cannot tell you why! It’s weird, to me the mojo is one of the best bangs for buck rods out there but the avid just feels better in the hand. Similar models between them the avid feels like it has more backbone for driving 3/0 hooks for senkos. I love my 7’ medium fast avid x in all fairness for the tatula I think mine actually could be problematic. Not enough to detour me from them but would like to try someone elses before making another purchase. It is extremely sensitive from 1 brake setting to the next, I could have it on say 8 and could whip it as hard as I can and no backlash but if I go to 7 and try to cast even a lighter cast it birdsnests like crazy. All my chronarch are the same, cast a country mile, smooth as heck, and extremely consistent. Easy to use, good to look at and now I can skip a jig or senko fairly easily! I love these reels!

New Senko Setup
The only rod out of that list I’ve fished is the mojo and it’s a great rod. I’d probably opt for an avid or avid x. As far as reel goes I’ve never fished the met mgl but will be my next but love my chronarch mgl’s I’ve got 4 of them!! I’ve learned to skip them easier then my tatula sv

Can I get it done flipping with NRX 893c??
Perfect I’ve been keeping my eye out for one! Like I said after fishing the 852c it has been working but a more often then not after getting the fish to the boat the hook isn’t all the way through the lip, it just has a bit of a task driving it all the way through. Makes a wicked wacky rig rod, shakey head rod, even used if for drop shot and it did okay with 3/16oz finesse jigs and trailers

GLX 894jwr vs. 894fpr
I have the glx 894c and it is exactly what your looking for! Plenty of backbone and has a great tip. Can cast a 3/8oz jig a mile and feels great.

Can I get it done flipping with NRX 893c??
Well glad you have enjoyed this rod! It will probably my next one. That or an 843 mbr. I have the glx 852c and 894c and love these two rods!! The 852c is a wicked little rod but it is a little on the light side for driving those big hooks on a Texas rigged senko. But have no problems with the 894c throwing 3/8oz baits what so ever
-
Gloomis NRX rods
For the most versatile it would be the mbr taper for sure! But totally depends on what your using these rods for I’d like probsbly the 852c and 893c. 873c would probably be an excellent choice too but I’ve never really fished it
-
Nicest combo out there
Also not the most expensive and different prices between US and Canada because here these two combos are at the 1000 dollar limit we are talking about in Canada, and upgrading the 894c to a metanium mgl when I return from my moose hunt.

Need crank rod help
I fish a g.loomis imx pro 845c cbr which is a 7’ medium-heavy moderate-fast action rod and I love it! My hookup ratio has gone way up after I purchased this rod! Have thrown 1/4oz cranks to 3/4oz cranks!

Going back to budget?
I don’t know if I could go back personally lol. Sure I don’t need the highest end rods but they are a lot more fun to fish with. With moving baits I don’t see the point in buying the most expensive but I bought the highest end I could afford. Might not be totally worth it but ever time I pick up those rods I just love the feel and look of them. My bottom contact rods I’ll probsbly always stay with the best I can afford but my moving baits as long as they are something I like, mid-high grade I’ll get it.

magnetic vs. centrifugal
I agree but I can’t seem to figure it out. I’ve tried almost everything and just can’t figure this daiwa out! It was my first baitcaster and I got the tatula sv because I was told it’s one of the easiest reels. I shortly after bought my K and since have bought my 3 chronarchs and love then. Haven’t given up on my daiwa but always grab my Shimano’s
-
magnetic vs. centrifugal
I much prefer my centrifugal brakes personally. I don’t know why but my daiwa tatula sv is much pickier then my Shimano’s (curado k and chronarch mgl’s). I love the feel of the reels but I have headaches with it. My dad had 2 tatula sv’s and loves them. It seems that the shimanos can have less spool tension then the daiwa and it requires more brakes. My Shimano’s have some spool play (very little “knock”) and 1 or 2 of the brakes on, where as my tatula needs to be tight spool and atleast 7 or 8 on the brake otherwise it birds nests everytime!

best heavy cover/frog/punch/flip/pitch setup
My flip and pitch rod is 50lbs straight braid. In clear lakes I sometimes tie on a leader. My frog rod is 50lbs straight braid and never had a problem but lots of people use 65lbs straight braid. Crank I use Fluro

Everyone’s favourite jig trailers?
What trailers do you guys like best? And colours? Cant ever get bit on black and blue but black with red flake have been killing it this year
-
Which jig?
Just picked up a bunch of strike kings, dirty jigs and ordered a dozen seirbert jigs to try!
-
Crankbait arsenal
Honestly my most successful crankbait this year has been the berkley pit bull 5.5! It has been an absolute hammer this year on bass from my local ponds, to the northern lakes I fish. Been loving these cranks. So far they have been holding up well, paint hasn’t chipped or flaked too much, hooks out of the package have been super sharp!

UPDATE ON JIG HELP
Congrats! Nice look bass! I caught my first jig fish just 2 weeks ago and it’s been 2 solid weeks of jig fishing since lol! I’ve got less fish in general over the past 2 weeks but I’ve caught on average much better fish. First one being a 5lber followed by a 3lber on the next cast! I was hooked! Going out to a new lake tomorrow and have two rods pre-set up tied with jigs right now.
