  1. Someone else can do a better job than me with the technical aspects, but as a "user" the magnetic brakes are more finicky. I have my STX dialed in, but I use it exclusively to fish 1/2 oz jigs with a trailer or approximately 3/4 oz weight. Centrifugal brakes give the user a broader range of options without adjustment. 8-)
  2. Wow! These stories are amazing. #1 20' is too close, period. #2 No one owns "a spot". #3 I'm glad I have lot's of places to fish. I rarely (never) run into a problem and if I did, I would just leave. 8-)
  3. The magnetic braking system on the STX is significantly different than the centrifugal brakes on the Curado. If you could borrow both reels from someone, I suspect you could make a definitive decision on which one is best suited for you. 8-)
  4. Braid (20/6 or 30/8) is the answer. Just check it periodically for cuts and fray. For some presentations a direct tie is fine, but I think you will have better luck with finesse if you use a fluorocarbon leader. I don't like braid, otherwise that is what I would do. 8-)
  5. This section is for saltwater and all "other species". Otherwise, this is a bass fishing forum. If you look around just a little, there are plenty of saltwater forums, both national and state specific. You stated on another thread that you hardly fish for bass, so why not find a more suitable site? I don't find posts about saltwater trash fish interesting and when I'm out to sea, only fish for them when collecting bait. Yellowfin tuna, marlin and sailfish trip my trigger, but Jack Carvalle are just bloody baitfish fit for nothing but sharks.
  6. WOW! ;D ;D ;D
  7. The market did not collapse because of the inauguration. It's all about the impending collapse of the banking system. Worldwide, the banks are insolvent. Governments may bail them out, but the system is upside down. Your local bank may be solid, but the big banks that have run the world's economies are toast. >
  8. Accuracy and distance are virtually the same. However, if you want to be technical, spinning tackle is a clear winner. 8-)
  9. Maybe, but I fish the Kahuna with a 1/8 -1/4 oz weight, unpegged. 8-)
  10. There is no chance this thread is going to work... http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1172273207 Goodnight Irene. -Kent a.k.a. roadwarrior Global Moderator
  11. No, when you place your order the software calculates your discount which puts the rod in your stated price range. I have the comparable Avid (AVC66MF). The tip is soft enough to be considered an "all- around "treble hook" rod, but I do have it dedicated as my jerkbait rig most of the time. I also use it almost exclusively for spinnerbaits and buzzbaits. Although the tip is a little too soft for soft plastics, you may find it works alright for you: not ideal, but good enough. I think it's pretty close to what you are looking for. 8-)
  12. Technically, you really need different rods for cranking and soft plastics, but this will work: http://www.reedssports.com/Product/product.taf?_function=detail&_ID=8562 The EC66MF is a great rod, especially on sale! 8-)
  13. Mr. Bean, As you can easily see, there is no "best", just "favorite" line. You will have to try a few to see what you like. These kind of threads are more confusing than useful.
  14. Bank America's stock hit an all-time low today, too. They may have an additional $80 billion in undisclosed losses from their Merill Lynch acquisition. Wells Fargo, JP Morgan and State Street, all-time lows. There are no white knights.
  15. Welcome aboard! 8-)
  16. Re-organized, liquidated, operating units sold or the entire company merged with another bank.
  17. CITI has fallen below $3 per share today. State Street dropped more than 50% and Bank America has touched an all-time low. The banks have fallen dramatically since the "bailout". It appears the worst is still to come.
  18. The rating for the blank is 3/16-3/4. 8-)
  19. Hey Dominick! You know I'm just bustin' your chops...I know how much you love the game...I used to, too. 8-)
  20. I was hoping the Majors would go to metal at the turn of the millennium so the game wouldn't be so boring. It never occurred to me than instead, the entire country would build new stadiums and bring in the fences. :
  21. Yeah, hustle and desire are no substitute for money...The worst part is big markets can't buy a championship. I hate it, too. :
  22. The two most popular G.Loomis spinning rods are the SJR783s and 843S. I would get the SJR843S. 8-)
  23. Top of the line equipment will not make a poor fisherman good, but it will make a good fisherman better. Except for other pros on tour, Tiger Woods could probably beat any other golfer with nothing more than a 7 iron or a putter. That doesn't make either of those clubs the best choice for others golfers. 8-)
