  1. This is a combination on sale for $169.98 38-940-544-07 7' Medium Power/ Fast Action Extreme XPS (XTR70MS) // Shimano 2500FH reel I suggest Ultra Soft #6 for your line, but BPS doesn't carry it. The orginal Hybrid #4 would be my choice if you want to get everything in one stop at BPS. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_59174_100003002_100000000_100003000_100-3-2
  2. I don't think any rod can be that versatile. I have a Lamiglas SR705R, Heavy Power/ Slow Action, glass rod that can handle a wide range of casting weights, but it wouldn't be worth a hoot for fishing jigs or soft plastics.
  3. WHAT? I can't hear you.
  4. DO NOT replace the VMC hooks that come on Lucky Craft lures, they are fine.
  5. And I'm with Matt. In what I consider "deep" water I fish weighted soft plastics or hard baits: Mizmo 3 1/2" tube (Kent's Classic), GYCB Single Tail Hula Grub and 3" grubs; lipless cranks this time of year and Ledgebuster Single Willow Blade spinnerbaits; and you gotta try a jig!
  6. I would focus exclusively out from the shelf on the drop with a Rat-L-Trap type lipless crankbait. If that lure doesn't produce I would try a spinnerbait, soft plastics (Senko, Fat Ika & tube) and maybe a jig. The structure you describe is ALWAYS productive for me. Fish the ledge by making long casts parallel to the structure in order to place your bait in the strike zone for maximum exposure. If there are any active fish in the quarry, you will pick up a few. Good luck! This outing has a lot of potential.
  7. I fish the Fat Ika in water <12' deep, skirt up, weedless and weightless only.
  8. *** Moderator Note *** Let's all take a deep breath... I don't want to close this thread, but please remain CIVIL. I am NOT calling out anyone, this is just a reminder that courteousy to others should be considered BEFORE posting. -Kent a.k.a. roadwarrior Global Moderator
  9. Welcome aboard! If you specify your pricing point, what you want to spend, that will help our members make appropriate suggestions.
  10. I definitely contemplate my line choice way too much. Nope, line impacts both getting the bite and landing the fish...line is probably the single most important part of fishing tackle. I too expect to have the "perfect" line one day soon. Until then, it's all about compromise and the aspects you feel are most suitable for the type of fishing you do.
  11. The line will be fine. BTW, It seems a little early to be getting ready for "walley in the fall."
  12. "Talk not loudly, but intelligently." That's my stand, too,
  13. As much as I would like to deal with Shimano directly, I am a very impatient person, and with the weather finally being nice enough to get out and fish, I took it back to BPS. Luckily the Shimano rep was in the store so he got an earfull, and he was just as shocked with the history that I have had as I was. I really needed some additional tackle so I exhanged the MG for a new Curado and used the difference for much needed stuff. I know the MG and Curado are not the same, but I have had such good luck with my other Curados, I decided to take a chance. I have one rule when it come to buying reels, if I need to break it down, reoil, relube and reassemble, then it is going back for another one, if I wanted to do that, I would buy a used one and go from there, maybe it is stubbornness or laziness, but that is how I feel about buying new reels. Agreed...That's just too bad, I can hardly believe you would have such back luck on consecutive occasions...NO WAY! The Shimanbo guy should have replaced your Chronach MG and given you a Curado for free. I don't fix "new."
  14. Hey guys! Personal conversations are better suited to the personal messages (PM) function. The Forum, and especially this section, is the WRONG place. I'll leave the initial question up, but that too should be sent directly to Mr. Hannon. -Kent a.k.a. roadwarrior Global Moderator
  15. Oops! I guess it's been awhile. P-Line used to be My Line, so I recall it being 40% stonger than its stated test. That was probably #6 for spinning tackle and #17 for baitcasting. I don't think #15 was an option then either. Whatever the technically correct answer is, CXX is strong! I switched because of line memory, especially in cold weather.
  16. Stand firm, but lower your profile a tad. Those that oppose the Second Amendment are a small minority whose opinion you will never change. Our objective is to maintain the support of the vast majority of Americans that are not interested or uncommitted. Say and write what you like when preaching to the choir, we all love that stuff, but be gentle with the general public. These situations are not the time to flaunt the colors. I am NOT suggesting giving an inch, but being a little lower keyed right now is probably in our best interest.
  17. It looks like you're back in the game. That's great!
  18. Yep! That's another fine fish.

  20. I think so...You're on a roll! Seriously, I just can't imagine what's going on, but don't "let it go." The Chronarch MG should be PERFECT in everyway. Personally, I would call Shimano, tell your story and send the reel DIRECTLY to them for replacement. Keep a record of names, numbers and time. I am sure Shimano will take care of you and investigate the problems you have endured. This whole story is simply ridiculous! Go direct and get this resolved.
  21. I think it's 40% stronger than stated, #15 = 21 lb test. (Yo-Zuri #12 = 19.5 lb test)
  22. This is an inherent problem with pure fliorocarbon and copolymer lines with a fluorocarbon component (Yo-Zuri Hybrid). Fluorocarbon is an inert crystal which, I think, "cracks" when severly bent. I don't know to what extent this impairs the physical integrity of the line, but I don't trust it either. When my line has a kink, I replace it. I do NOT respool completely, but maintain a minimum of 60-80 yards of "fresh" line on top of backing at all times.
