  1. Welcome aboard! Generally, it seems that I catch largemouth occasionally when fishing for smallmouth, but rarely the other way around. Spots seem to show up everywhere.
  2. Excellent! (BTW, nothing I know of in fresahwater fights like a catfish. Cats try to stay put on the bottom, twist, turn and circle. In any kind of current they will use their body mass so that the fisherman is always fighting against the current. They never give up and can be very difficult to land with light tackle. On the downside, they never run far, it's always back to the bottom, and they never jump.)
  3. Nice...real nice.
  4. Here is a store that has great service, no tax and free deliver. They often have St. Croix rods on sale: http://www.reedssports.com/ Well, here is an example: http://www.reedssports.com/Shopper/Basket.taf?_function=show And the current big sale: http://www.reedssports.com/main.taf?cat=2131

  6. You tell a good story complimented with some nice pics. Job well done!
  7. I can picture that, but ya just gotta be there to appreciate how funny it really is. Yep, it's happen to me before, too.
  8. Wow! I've never had a day like that. Congratulations!
  9. You'll need to get some Fat Ika, too. I have been fishing the Senko since 1997, this is my third year with the Fat Ika. These are my top two producers, I'll probably be fishing them another ten years or so. I hope someone comes up with another "Magic Lure' one of these days.
  10. Gammies for me.
  11. You Cali guys are so spoiled...just anoither 8 something... : BTW, nice pics. I guess you found something trout fishermen are good for.
  12. Same here. I had a little luck with a 6" Slug-Go this weekend, nothing big, but no missed fish. I was using a 4/0 EWG Gamakatsu Offset Worm Hook. This is the same hook I use for nearly all soft plastics.
  13. Although I have a preference for the Stradic, I think Roger has made a strong case for the Shimano Symetre. The Stella isn't a consideration on this thread. That's like comparing the machines NASCAR ran yesterday at Talladega to production Dodge, Chevy, Toyoto and Fords. A chasis on four wheels is about all they have in common. The Shimano Stella has no place in the "value" category.
  14. Take a look at this thread. It will help you select the right rods: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1141187546 Good luck!
  15. I have only fished the 08 which is the smallest size. I'll be interested to hear how you do with the larger versions.
  16. Great day with your son and the fishing wasn't bad...Good for you! 8-)
  17. Great day, congratulations! (We still have a little work to do. Fishing lines shouldn't break.)
  18. The main advantage fishing the 6" Senko is discouraging some of the small bass from biting. I don't fish the 5" version, they catch too many fish! : Seriously, I think over time you will consistantly catch better bass on the 6" bait. Most of my biggest green bass have been taken on this Senko.
  19. Great day!
  20. Welcome aboard! Here ia a place to start: https://www.bassresource.com/beginner/beginner.html
  21. I have an infestation of the same magnitude. My local pond is a mess! However, I overcame it today fishing a frog for the first time. The strike was a ball, but there was very little "action" and landing the fish was a struggle. If I go tomorrow mornng, I'm fishing a Slug-Go and heavy gear. I found fishing the slop challenging and not much fun even when I cauught some bass. I know some guys like it, but I'm not one of them.
  22. WOW! Man, that is too cool...Congratulations!
  23. Pound for pound, NOTHING to talk about...but smallmouth don't get to be 15+ lbs!
