Another rod selection question
I fish what I consider "The Perfect Rod" for big treble hook lures and deep divers in particular: Lamiglas SR705R. This is a 7' glass rod, Heavy Power/ Slow Action. I have it matched up with a Shimano CTE200GT (5.0:1).

bass habitation
Welcome aboard! When vegetation is not an option, most of the bass in the river, lake or pond will relate to structure.

List of the biggest documented bass ever caught
Nope. Too many variables on the Tennessee River. For awhile TVA wouldn't give us any water and now they have opened the flood gates! I had a BIG trip planned this weekend which we had to cancel. Man, I really feel the pain of that old saying, "That's fishing!" Back on topic, Bassmaster or In-Fisherman did a VERY detailed analysis of the Trew fish and came up with a number of around 18 lbs, max. As we all know, pictures can be misleading, both too small and too big. Craig's fish was a pig and a true trophy for most of us, but the picture just blows me away. ONLY 10-7? That's too bad. :'(

Salt
To the extent that salt impacts the overall composition of the GYCB plastics, I think it is critical. Texture is why I think bass tend to hold a Senko longer. Try a bite, it feels good to me and has no intense underlying flavor. Chew a Senko and you will notice a gritty component which may be the salt crystals. The overall sensory reaction is one of "fullness." I think it simply feels right to bass.

Craig, the fish in your avatar could be anything you want it to be! Man, I'm not exaggerating, that is a GREAT picture. Size, lighting, contrast, angle and the way you have it held...That's what a "pro" is all about. I'm glad you weighed and posted this fish, it just demonstrates all the reasons you are so passionate about the Perry fish.

!@#$%^&*&^% PATRIOTS !!!
cajun1977, It was nothing specific in this game, I'm not trying to second guess any specific play. Marty's record speaks for itself- he cannot win the big one no matter how much talent he has at his disposal. That was always an advantage for the Broncos. I don't think Marty ever won a game, with Clevland or Kansas City, when he faced John Elway. Back then it was always "someone elses fault." He was (is) a crybaby. Then you have his alleged affair in K.C. with a Chiefs cheerleader and most people thought he was done. He is a man that just "can't get no respect." This was his year and yet, he still couldn't make it happen. I don't have a horse in this race. The playoffs this weekend were outstanding, well...if your team won! I expect next weekend to be spectacular and hope the Super Bowl is good, too. All the soldiers left standing can win, it doesn't appear to me than any one of these teams is dominant. Good luck. I hope YOUR team wins.

Bigger Bass???
I don't really know what you mean. If you are predicting that big bass will be harder to catch than small bass, I would agree that they are more predictable!

phisher_d, Thanks! I have never seen that list. All the more amazing that David Hayes' fish stands so far above the pack. BTW, he still has the skin mount of that giant!

Float N Fly?
Float N Fly is usually thought of as a smallmouth tactic. There was a pretty detailed article in last month's In-Fisherman magazine. Fred McClintock, a well know multi-species guide, contributed to the article. According to Fred, F N F is a technique of "last resort." It's slow, boring and not particularly productive.

!@#$%^&*&^% PATRIOTS !!!
Congrats Russ and to all the Pats fans! Marty is a slug and has ALWAYS been one. I never liked him at Cleveland, thought he was a joke at KC until he made a complete azz out of himself and now San Diego. I hope S.D gets rid of him, too.

"The Truth About Light Tackle"
cart7, I'm not convinced it makes a difference with largemouth bass unless the water is ultra-clear, but it makes a HUGE difference with smallmouth bass. Line diameter, not just visibility, can be crucial.

"The Truth About Light Tackle"
Three weeks ago my partner hooked up with what turned out to be an 8 lb smallmouth. When it jumped 2-3' out of the water I thought it might be the new World Record. Two years ago the same guy, my partner Speedy Madewell, boated the only 10 lb smallmouth I have ever seen. Immediately after the strike, this bad girl came boiling out of the water in what appeared to be a 3-4" jump, her next two were not quite as high, but she still showed quite a bit of enthusiasm. I hate to be so aggressive, but have you actually ever caught a big smallmouth? Almost everything in your last several posts is incorrect and sounds as if it is being retold from someone else that doesn't know brown fish from green trout. I gave you some slack earlier about pointing your rod at a fish, but you have continued down a slippery slope. If there is a misunderstanding, I would like to clear it up. Otherwise, let's just drop it. I am not trying to embarass you or drive a point. On topic. You can't catch a trophy fish unless you first get it hooked-up. Light line leads to more bites.

Craig, No I don't think you are the "only one," but this was beat to death on another thread that we both participated in. This thread is NOT about Perry's fish. -Kent

ONE BOOK
Yes, but it's not necessarily the place to start. The In-Fisherman Largemouth and Smallmouth books are what I would suggest first.

rowland martin?
It's no problemo. The fact that Roland is promoting this thing is just pitiful.

Simple question about trout??
I catch rainbow, cut-throat and brook trout all day long. German brown trout, especially the BIG ones, feed at night.
