New “Light Flippin” Rod
I handled one of the new Powell Max rods in 7” extra heavy yesterday. It’s ridiculously light, and I love their new reel seats. Definitely on the short list of purchases. I have an older Max in 7”6 mag med heavy and I love it, it’s horsed some big, angry fish out of some real gnarly cover with ease. I would have the same confidence in their newest models.

Mounting hardware for Garmin Striker install into kayak
Side imaging won’t work. As long as you install it properly, down imaging will work.

Your general approach on Tournament Day?
That’s awesome. I bet you could make a whole tank last all season and still kill it in the derbs

Your general approach on Tournament Day?
Worse... I’m a kayaker. I almost paddled the entire lake that day and never caught a limit. One of em said he caught almost 15 fish pitching 1 (ONE!) flooded tree.

Your general approach on Tournament Day?
1st and 2nd place in my last tourney never went further than 300 yards from where we launched.

Let's talk kayak hulls
Idk if I can even paddle mine fast enough for sidescan to work ?. My arms, however, have not been this ripped since college.

Let's talk kayak hulls
A guy who fishes our tournaments has a Dorado. He and I were fishing near each other, and he decided to blast off to another spot. It’s obviously a hell of a lot faster than paddling, but even with pedals, he didn’t seem like he was going very fast. But he could probably do gymnastics on his yak

Let's talk kayak hulls
3 Waters/FeelFree’s cathedral hull. Kind of a crappy picture. Literally designed for one purpose and one purpose only- stability. I’m usually the slowest boat out on the water. But I don’t even consider sitting when boats come off plane by me and I get their wake. This is my first kayak, and I was standing and fishing within the first hour of its maiden voyage. Also the sonar pod, and where it goes in the boat give my transducer more than enough protection.

5 Gallon *Pitching* Challenge
You’re missing the point.

5 Gallon *Pitching* Challenge
You know how your arm got tired after 15 minutes? Imagine doing it all day on the water with no fish to show for it because you were just blind pitching to nothing, or busy getting your bait unwrapped from overhanging trees. Accuracy is pretty much the number one objective in pitching.

I made an impulse buy
This rod will probably see minimal time in 3 pieces. A nice feature if I need it, but not why I bought it. I don’t think I’ve ever even seen a picture of the case itself.

How long will you let a bait sit?
Roughly half as long as my ADD lets me. I’ve been trying really hard lately to slow down while fishing. I even power fish Ned rigs.

Soft frogs on bottom
A lot of my strikes come from buzzing a toad over some grass then pausing it and letting it float down an opening in the grass. Even if the bite isn’t immediate, I’ll let it sink for a few seconds. Those legs really flutter all by em selves, and seems to drive the fish nuts. The keitech toads are basically just really fat rage craws with tiny arms ?.

What Braided Line do you use
Either 832 or power pro. Prefer 832, seems to work a little better for me. But if PP’s on sale, or 832 is sold out, I’ve got no issues filing up with PP

rod size for bank fishing
How long of a pitch are you making on average? Longer rods are usually easier to get more distance out of, for both casting and pitching. If you’re having to bring the rod tip down to your feet for short pitches, you’ll probably have better luck buying a smoother reel than a shorter rod. Now for really short pitches, I find my flippin stick too long, and constantly over shoot my target.

Favorite reels
I think Favorite’s problem is that they are trying to tackle the entire spectrum of consumers. They make a few “higher end” products (I’ve heard a couple of their pricier rods are actually pretty good), but they 1) fall short of the performance of other products in that price range and 2) make too many junk budget products aimed at the Guy Fieri types and 14 year old Googan idolizing teens. Even if they made the best reel in the world, guys who can buy the former won’t, because they refuse to take them seriously due to the latter. I guarantee they don’t care, though. Those kids are making them filthy rich. They’ll continue to make stupid looking flame reels because someone keeps buying them.

You have more willpower than 95% of this site.

Thinking about a shorter frog rod
In my opinion, it’s almost always a necessity. Even if you’re not fishing around a bunch of crazy cover, look at the hooks on your frog. You need a rod and a hookset to really drive those suckers home. My frog rod is a broomstick. I often have to “thump” frogs out of the fishes mouth, but I know they ain’t shakin it.

Ascend 12
For $350 I’d buy it. It’s not the greatest kayak out there, definitely big and hard to paddle. But for that price if you decide you want something smaller/better/different, you should be able to get $3-350 back out of it while you save. Like IgotWood said about the deck being “spongey”, stick some firm foam blocks underneath the deck to support your weight. I’ve seen some crack, but that seems to be the most common prevention.

I made an impulse buy
They’re not “extras”! They just need a home on a rod! I have a 13 Concept A that needs a minor repair. I think this is a great reason to finally send it in.

I made an impulse buy
Shhhhh.... just let the monkey do it’s thing. I was saving for a LowDown. But I got to fish an F5 recently. Not mad at all about my purchase. Just having a LowDown or F5 makes ya wanna throw the big baits as an excuse to use the rods, they’re that nice. I’m becoming a little antsy about when my rod will get here. Haven’t even decided on a reel, yet. ?
-
I made an impulse buy
Oh, I’ve got plenty of impulse buys. Just wasn’t looking for a new swimbait rod. But couldn't pass this deal up. Now if LowDown ever runs a sale like that, I’ll be flat broke.
-
I made an impulse buy
Yeah, I try to do all my buying on the off season, and save money to actually go fish during the season.

I made an impulse buy
I usually don’t get too excited about buying rods these days. It’s usually to fill a niche, and this is definitely no different. But when a smokin deal lands in your lap, you just pull out the card and click “proceed to check out”. I’m not a hardcore swimbaiter by any means. I love throwing em, and I’ve had some good success doing so. But I won’t dedicate the serious time to them like some do. This might change that a little. F5 put their Departure rod up for $130. So I put an order in for an 806 MH. I literally couldn’t pass up the deal. The wife even told me I couldn’t pass it up Figured- if it gets me big bass in one tourney, it paid for itself. Solid justification?
